My quest to obtain the Wells!

This is my very first ever post with the Forum so bear with me everyone!

I've been a loyal player with STO since launch and I'm happy they've finally decided to put my absolute favourite ship in game, the Wells class!

Ever since I saw that ship fly across my tv in "Relativity" I've been hooked. Sadly, they're making my desire to fly it in game a little more difficult with the Lock Boxes.... :(

I started my quest today with 40 Lock Boxes to open and so far, nothing....

Anyone have any tips, tricks or ideas?

ANY input is welcome!

you need to buy enough keys for at least 100 lock boxes. Simply doing 40 gives you too small a chance.

DO what I did. Save your Lobi and buy the Mobius. then stockpile the temporal lock boxes and open the, at a leisurely rate.

You're likely to get it eventually if you stack your temporal boxes high and wide enough.

40 boxes is more than enough of a chance to get a Wells. Thats around when I got mine, and I was among the first few to get one.

Its best to only open ~50-60 boxes at a time. If you don't get a ship, cut your losses and try again another day. That way at least, you don't blow 200 keys on nothing with Lobis. (Though with the Temporal Lockbox that isn't an issue like it was with the Ferengi or Tholian boxes. The Destoyer is actually worth it)

Now, would it make more sense to buy a lot of keys and then sell them on the Exchange to build up the EC to buy one there?

Buying 100 keys is not a guarantee I will get it, so at least in that way I could just buy it outright?

Do keys sell that well on the Exchange?

The keys sell circa 1.2m EC per key. Subject to change, however.
Therefore, I'd also like to hear it from somebody else?

I like the Mobius (Moebius?) but I would prefer to get the Wells, and the correct uniform. Makes for some awesome RP.

Buy it off the exchange. They were a 100 million on release...now they are about 80 million ec. Give it a few weeks and they will probably drop.

I am waiting for that to happen now...

Seems a waste to have to pay 60 million ec for a console!

    Temporal destroyer is awesome!

Id like a Wells. Im saving up the boxes and like someone said just open them at leasure.
I want one because HGWells wrote Time Machine and War of the Worlds here in my home town of Woking.

Ive got a Thunderchild named after the warship that battled the Martians in WOTW.

I want a Wells now to keep it company. :)

    Local flavour, cool!

Wells, even with the Wells at, let's say 50m EC it will still take me ages to get it. But I'm patient and I remember a time when my main character already had Six Million EC. I am going to have so much again.

With keys having dropped so much in price, it might be a good idea to sell Fleet Ship Modules along with keys, or possibly instead of. Both sell well if you price them appropriately. Though, you miss out on the Lobi for the new Temporal set going that way if you don't the Lobi for those already.

On the other hand, you could also open boxes until you get enough lobi to get the Mobius, then sell that for enough EC to buy the Wells.

Let me squash any nonsense on this thread - the odds of getting the ship are less than 0.5% as observed by many many players and box openning tests.

so that's almost 200!! boxes to get a ship - yes there are people who get a ship in the first 5 boxes but there are WAY more who don't get one in over 150 boxes!

Also you only avg about 5.5 lobi per box!!

So for the temporal destroyer that means you need 140 odd boxes or about $180 million ec worth of keys

the destroyers sell for around $90 million so buying the boxes for lobi to get the destroyer is stupid.

Also the Temporal set is 600 lobi so expect to open over 100 boxes for that or $130 millon EC!

All and all if you bought the keys with Zen then for everything it would cost about $200 dollars!!

That is what you are looking at.

Tholians is one of my favorite species, around the release of that lockbox, i sold my project car and put 200 dollars into z points, that was supposed to last me a LONG time, instead i blew through on lockboxes, and guess what, i got NOTHING, i got a recluse, no orb weaver (weird having a recluse yet no orb weaver)
I said i was NOT going to buy any more lockboxes, then cryptic has to do the ******* thing, and put in th wells class, one of my favorite ships, and bridges in all of star trek....SIGH! This time i had some keys put up, some extra lobi, and bought only 80 dollars worth of keys. ANd guess what, with 20 keys left, i opened a wells.

I was really, REALY surprised, i have the wells and mobius now, on separate toons, yes i know you get the special power combining the consoles, but i have 2 toons i wanted using both different ships, so instead of getting kicked in the balls and only be allowed 1 of 2 ships for 1 toon with a special console power, i split them up. ANd i love both ship. Good luck buddy, i hope you get them. I do NOT support the lock box idea, but its like holding a piece of candy in front of a fat man, when its something your addicted to and want really bad...well its hard to not resist :( and god its one sexy ship.

The Wells is the first Lockbox ship I really wanted. So I gathered about 120 Keys and started open those boxes. All I got was those stupid DOFFs asf. BUT, I was really lucky, I got the Wells with only 1 more Key left!:-)

So, now I have the Wells for my Sci and can afford the M?bius!:-) For me, it was worth it.

Yes, do not open the lockboxes. Sell the keys in the exchange, they're hovering at about 1.4 million each and the Wells is selling for around 80 million EC (variable of course, i'd plan to spend 80 to 90 million EC on it just to be sure). It may seem hard to believe at first but this is probably the cheapest way (in RL money) to get the Wells. You'll need to sell around 58 to 60 keys.

Keep in mind that it is possible to get these ships without RL money. You just need to farm enough Dilithium and EC. It takes time but... you'll get your timeship before the 29th century anyway. :D

I am never going to spend money on STO again (ensures peace in the household), I have my stipend, my patience. I've played STO since Open Beta and I have time as long as the game exists to get the ship.

Certainly, most people on the in-game chat were saying that if they won a Wells class they'd trade it for a Mobius anyway. The fact that the Wells is a science ship doesn't help matters much either, since science doesn't do DPS as well as an escort, and DPS is all that the majority of the playerbase cares about..

For those of us that like to have a Cmdr Sci slot at our disposal, and like to fly a high-aux sci ships, the Wells easily outclasses anything else available!

Learn to live with only an ensign engi, and you have 5 tac abilities at your disposal! :)

BTW, I prefer Science ships, too.

However, what is auxilliary energy good for? I never use it because I don't understand it. Shields, weapons and engines are self-explanatory (I've got max power on weapons on all my ships). It is like the superfluous ground hypo (shields battery is clear, health hypo makes sense - but the energy thingie?). What are they good for?

Aux power will, beyond making your heals much stronger:

    - Increase power drain from abilities a LOT! (tykens, siphon)
    - Increase the pull of your Grawety well, and push of you Repulsors a lot!
    - Increase duration of you Scramble Sensors a lot!
    - In short, dramatically increase the efficiency of all sci skills except Viral Matrix, Photonic Shockwave, Photonic Officer and Sci Team.

On my sci ships, I usually run 125 to aux, and let projectile weapons do my damage (torps/mines).

    From the WiKi:

    Auxiliary

The Auxiliary subsystem affects Science Space bridge officer abilities as well as your starships cloak detection (also known as Perception) and if applicable, the potency of your cloaking system.
Every point of power above 50 into the Auxiliary systems will increase your Perception stat by 2% and increase the potency of Science abilities by 2%. Every point of power under 50 in the Auxiliary subsystem will do the reverse and drop the modifier of abilities, perception and cloak effectiveness by 0.6% and 2% respectively.

There's quite a few, you need to look in the Reward Packs tab, type "Temporal science" in the search to find it.

If everyone did this, and no one opened boxes, the prices would go up on the ships beause the demand would go up on them because no one would be selling, because no one would be pulling from boxes.....

    see how this works....

That is what I did, never had good luck opening the lock boxes, I bought enough keys to buy the Wells Class, Mobius Class, and Aeon Shuttle, set for a little while. Just wondering how they will sell the 29th century uniforms.

    I got a Wells on key #34.

I don't like science ships so I will just sit on it for a few months and let the exchange prices go up.

The wells class would make a nice single cannon/turret build with Tac boffs in the uni stations :)
