Multiple ships, looking for new things.

Hi! :D

Okay, I've got a Tactical Vice Admiral. With some sadness, I've finally cleared out most of my old ships (I assume I'm not going to use them anymore, which makes me a little sad). As such, I feel like Jay Leno with an empty car garage - it needs to be filled! :)

At the moment I've got the Excelsior Refit and an Atrox Carrier that I can think of, plus a Captain's Yacht and some shuttle looking thing. I've been really enjoying both big ships, but would like to branch out and try new things. I'm really not much for alting, though, so chances are I'll be sticking with this character, at least Fed side.

I've found myself enjoying the Beam Boat concept quite a bit with both ships; floating serenely above combat and raining Tetryon death upon the enemy. The fighters have been quite a lot of fun too, although I'm still learning how to use them. The Atrox's use of my Science officers adds in a great control element I've not really gotten to try much of, and that's been great.

NO idea if I've got any VA level Escorts or not. Will check later. While I like the speed and firepower, I'm not sure if they're really my thing or not anymore. The risk:reward present with them can be great fun at times, frustrating at others (probably doing something wrong).

What could I be looking at right now that would be fun? Assume that:
  • I'll try about any ship that I can earn in-game.
  • I will remain using my Tactical VA.
  • That it could be outfitted using normal, common and uncommon weapons, consoles, etc. No MACO this or Borg that.
  • I'm open to trying different playstyles as dictated by equipment, and even BOFFs to a certain extent.
  • It should be reasonably competent for baseline PVE, both solo and teamed.
  • I haven't PVP'd yet, but am willing to try!

Also, if there's a way to save loadouts and/or tray configurations, that'd be awesome. Being able to swap stuff out easily would be fantastic.

If it can take hangers, feel free expound on the pros and cons for the particular combination. I'm finding the idea of working with the different carrier pets pretty interesting, assuming they can make a noticable impact in their various roles. Use them to cover weaknesses, add to strengths, or even broaden out? Fine by me ^_^

I don't know why, but in some regards I find STO to be like a spiritual cousin to another, older, Cryptic game I played for years and loved :D
