Energy based builds

Ok, I've been playing since Dec, I have a VA with a nice selection of vessels and I'm looking for something to new to try.

So far I have a build for Anti-Proton, Tetyon, Phaser and Disruptor. I'm looking into a plasma build for an escort but I want to know if this energy can be used effectively in STFs (For grinding) and PvE in general.

I plan to get the fleet tactical escort retrofit (I like the look of the defiant)

With this in mind I was thinking of the following items:

Fore: Plasma DHCsx3, Plasma torps
Aft: Plasma turrets x2, Plasma mines (or Tricobalt device)

Neutronium Alloy x2, EPS
Field Generator x2
Plasma Infuser x3, Ambiplasma enevlope and ADT

For skills I'm looking at RFC, SCV, TS, TT and APB for tactical, Eng Team and EPTS for Eng, RHP and HE for Sci

I'm wondering if the ambiplasma works on both the torps and mines, the tricobalt option is for attack run fly-bys I got used to doing in Fleet events and some STFs (granted it's risky as I can get caught in the blast wave is not careful).

I'm open for suggestions though I want this to be a plasma build primarily.

Also if anyone has had any luck in a polaron and torp build I'd like to see them.

Honestly plasma energy weapons aren't that great.

You could try disruptor weapons with plasma torpedos. Since the disruptor proc will make the plasma proc hurt more and the torpedos have a 1 in 3 chance of procing. Yes ambiplasma enveope will enhance plasma mines. And if you really want a plasma weapon try the plasma disruptor hybrid cannons from the Past imperfect mission.

Plasma weapons are fine in PvE, the procs aren't a big factor. In PvP everyone will have crazy resists against you.

I'd just grab another plasma infuser instead of the ambiplasma envelope, it boost the damage proc on the plasma weapons and will do more for DPS. I don't know what RHP is but transfer shield strength or polarize hull will probably do more for you. I'd take another EPTS or Aux2str1 over Engineering team.

The plasma mines are probably not going to do much for you, same for the tricobolt mine launcher, STF's are all about DPS and mines are terrible at that. A plasma torp would work more reliably and another plasma turret will boost dps all around.

    Thanks for tips guys.

@Razellis - RHP = Reverse Hull Polarization, basically polarize hull, sorry for the confusion. Might just have to go all turret in the back then and add another infuser.

As a side question, my disruptor build in on my Atrox, on the question of mixed energies and synergy. Which would give me a bit higher overall DPS?

    New build:
Fore: Hybrid Plasma/Disruptor beam x2, Plasma torp
    Aft: Disruptor turret x3

    vs

    Current build:
Fore: Disruptor beam x2, Quantum torp
    Aft: Disruptor turret x3

In my tact consoles I currently have Disruptor Induction coil and ADT, this wouldn't really change I think. For skills Tact I have FAW and Spread with ST:Shields on my main line.

Also was looking at the wiki and a thought accrued, is the Polarized Tetryon better then the Mark XII borg tetryon array?

The phaser proc isn't terribly useful against Borg, or against PvE in general (in my opinion). It's very useful to have in PvP, because losing all shields in PvP for even a few seconds can mean certain death. It's why the proc was 'nerfed' recently, too many people were complaining about being cut to pieces because everyone was running phaser, resulting in a LOT of phaser procs.

For STFs, stick with the anti-Borg tetryon. That anti-Borg proc is useful. It'd probably work just as well as the polarized tetryon against PvE in general, as well. For PvP, go with polarized tetryon that has at least [Acc]x2. In PvP, pretty much everything except plasma will have some use, as long as there's at least [Acc]x2 to help ensure that you'll HIT the target you're shooting at. Very important when it comes to shooting at escorts.

@TravelingMaster - I've run my tetryon build on my assault cruiser for fleet events mostly with moderate success. For STFs I do an AP build since it seems to work better and I don't need the shield proc for the majority of unshielded targets you tend to have to deal with.

You wanted a polaron build? For escorts right?

    Weapons:
    Fore:
    3x Phased Polaron Dual Cannons
    1x Quantum/Chroniton Torpedo Launcher
    Aft:
3x Polaron Turrets/2x Polaron Turrets & 1x Tricobalt Mine Launcher

    Shields:
    Jem'Hadar Resilient Shield Array

    Deflector:
    Jem'Hadar Deflector Dish

    Engines:
    Jem'Hadar Combat Impulse Engines

    Devices:
Subspace Field Modulator, 20x Large Shield Battery

    Consoles:
    Tac:
4x Polaron Phase Modulator, 1x Zero Point Quantum Chamber/5x Polaron Phase Modulator
    Engi:
    3x Neutronium Alloy
    Sci:
    1x Assimilated Module, 1x Field Generator/Inertial Dampener/Universal Cloaking Device

    BOff:
Cmdr Tac: Torp Spread 1, CRF 1, AP:B II, AP:O III/AP:B III (users choice)
Lt. Cmdr Tac: Torp HY 1, CRF 1, TT III
    Ensign Tac: TT 1
Lt. Engi: EPtW I, EPtS II/EPtS I, EPtW II
Lt. Sci: Polarize Hull I, HE II/HE I, Tractor Beam II

    DOff:
Users choice. Depending on how offensively oriented you want to be. But MUST HAVES are two Conn Officers that reduce Tac Team CD. If you can get those, remove the TT III and put another AP:B II for more face slapping power.

Basically the point of this build is to take advantage of the Jem'Hadar set bonus that gives you an extra 7.6% polaron damage output, and also gives you greatly reduced crew loss and good resistance overall (due to passive damage reduction on Jem'Hadar set shields and the neutronium). Usage of the PHASED Polaron dual cannons also gives you that random tetryon proc to go with the polaron proc. However if you really don't want to use them, then swap all of them out for Polaron Dual Heavy Cannons. Lastly it gives you last minute OH TRIBBLE survivability with the Subspace Field Modulator. Combine that with EM and you can escape from getting boned. This build WILL work in STFs and SHOULD be ok in PvP. Operative keyword there being SHOULD.

    Enjoy.

(Thank you Shookyang for edit reminder about phased polaron weapons)

You're thinking of the phased TETRYON weapons that have the phaser proc. The phased polaron is a mix of tetryon and polaron procs.

Thank you for the correction, it's been a while since I used this build XD. Will edit my previous post.
