Couple questions about pvp setups/skills

Looking for some imput on general pvp ship setups/skills for both federation escorts and klingon BoPs.
First off i am a noob and am currently flying tier 3 but have been reading the forums and watching some youtube videos of pvp.

1)Torpedo launcher vs an extra DHC/beam array (most videos i have seen of good pvp players all seem to drop the laucher for a beam array/DHC) So far i am using a torpedo launcher but from watching high end pvp seems most player know how to keep there shields up using TT/other skills which means that you could waste a HY on a shielded enemy real easy. (another benefit of dropping the torp would be more skillpoints/boff spots)

2)Boff skills. I am currently running this for bird of prey
TT1/RF1/HY3
TT1/RF1
EPS1
PH1

My federation escort is

TT1/RF1/HY3
TT1
EPS1/EPS2
PH1/TSS2

Should i invest in more offensive skills for my eng/science boffs or keep survivability?

Thank you in advance for any advice.

For Fed escort, you might wanna drop TSS2 for HE2, for both hull healing and for hazard clearing (warp plasma, especially). It's also useful if you're in Ker'rat and get hit by a Borg shield neutralizer, because it cancels the effect.

Given your limited boff options, your BoP setup seems workable. Remember, you should be concentrating on burst damage rather than sustained damage, and timing your bursts to coincide with Tactical Team/Reverse Shield Polarity cooldowns. In a BoP, you can just stealthily lurk around the edges of the battle area until you see an opening, and dive in for the kill. BoPs can be built for surviving, but it's ultimately not what they're meant for.

It ultimately depends on what type of escort you end up with at Max level, but for Tier 3 a Hazard Emitters really couldn't hurt, specially if your dipping your toe into Fleet Mark missions.

In an ideal world there'd be missions and tips as you level up to cover things like this, but there y'go >.<

HY3 is incredibly inefficient as it sacrifces a Rapid Fire 2, or attack pattern omega slot. You want to move the HY3 down to a HY2 (their Effective damage is very similar and HY2 is much more slot efficient) this will allow you to carry APO on one, and CRF2 on the other.

Ghosty is right, as usually. Apo is a pretty good improvement especially for a fragile bop. Even at tier 3, there are lots of tractor beams in pvp. That apo and ph should get you cover at least part time. In case you're using 2 eps, you could replace TSS with he2, since you have no hull heal at all. For the bop, i would not use thy at all (edit: wait till you advance and have a cmdr available, then use the dbb+Bo+thy trick you see in thissler's movies - I.e. if you get a target that's not paying attention, buff all tac abilities, launch a thy salvo, then when torps get close to target hit bo + dbb fire + dhc fire to drop the shield facing so torps hit bare hull). For the fed, you could follow same approach or you could go completely w/o apo and ph, equip the devidian console in case you get tractored and go for crf2. Keep in mind though that if you are willing to open your wallet, there are tier 3 ships superior to what you get for free, with more consoles and boff skills available. Your call, not really worth spending zens IMO for something youll never use after promotion to superior rank (other than some weapons/consoles) but if you plan doing lots of pvp at that level, it might worth.

Thank you all for advice so far playing around in the borg warzone (pvp queues for instanced pvp never pop) i have been playing around with torpedo's and DBB's with BO2.

The conclusion i came to was DBB with BO2 does 1/2-2/3 the damage of HY3(with quantum) but does not suffer when hitting shielded targets & can be used as both a opener if needed or a finishing blow.

Would it be worth dropping RF2 for Apo1 and going for something like:
    TT1/RF1/Apo1
    TT1/BO2

On another note i love the BoP the battle cloak is just amazing i was in the warzone with 4 federation ships with 3 of them sticking together and was able to buff up uncloak kill 1 or 2 of them then hit Evasive Maneuvers & battle cloak and run away pretty much unharmed of the 4 federation ships only 1 cruiser gave me trouble and it he was running heavy tank & knew how to manage cooldowns but his damage suffered so much that he would never been able to kill me.

How often do you use APO? I typically only use it for alpha strikes and to get away from holds. And alternate it with APD. Both of these skills have a pretty long cool down.

I use CRF much more often. However, since APO is a LT. Commander skill, you can't go any lower.

I'd recommend you keep APO for now and get CRF3 when you can get Commander level skills.
