It would help if you give us a little bit of info about your budget, PVE/PVP preferences, other ships and play style preferences.
I like the Gal-X but wouldn't want to buy one till Saucer separation was guaranteed for it, that'll make the cannon and cloak boasting cruiser a beast to play with if you have the consul.
The MVAE has one bad vector pet that kind of takes away from the rest of the package but can use fun sci powers. The Armitage's flexibility and Lt.Com Engineer makes it the more practical ship ATM for PVP play.

I'm not super rich but i'm not dirt poor, i sell shield and engine loot drops in the replicator and sometimes when i have more time, in the exchange. Right now i have a sovereign class that i like, but i've been using the advanced escort lately with a full borg set and green lvl weapons. In terms of pvp v pve, i pve more but i'm trying to learn basic pvp.
I know this is out of left field, but...are you in a fleet? It might be good to possibly join one, because a good deal of fleets have plenty of people who can help you in many ways, including good choices for ships, maybe upgrade your equipment, your BOFF build, etc.
Not trying to make this into a recruitment of course.
But, if I had to say, the MVAM is probably better in general. The Gal-X is nice, but the cloak and lance are really what you are buying. If you are doing great in your Sovereign, you probably oughta stick to that or your normal Advanced Escort. The RA ships are still very very good.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Like said above, the Gal-X is basically your Soverign with 2 extra gadgets and a little less turning. If you want a 'better' cruiser, the Gal-X is probably your worst choice unless you have specific plans for those toys.
If you're buying because you want to have an alternate-playstyle ship, then either the MVAM or the Armitage.

Well, since you're already using an Advanced Escort, you'll have an idea as to how the MVAM plays, which is pretty much the same, except you now have a power that gives you two weak pets and a big mobility boost.
If you're looking to get some better pets out of your escort lifestyle, an Escort Carrier is preferable.
I've never used the Gal-X so I can't comment on that.

It's fun but because it has a reputation as a "noob ship" the second you get in a PVP arena everyone is all over your TRIBBLE. If you know what you're doing that actually allows you to tank in PVP, if you're even a little off your game you'll die horribly. Once the separation console works it'll be one bad TRIBBLE little ship that will be more popular than ever but until that day it's not really competitive. Until then it's fun and perfect for one shot PVP kills but not exactly worth the cash.
Actually the Galaxy-X is a pretty good ship, so long as you take the time to learn how to use it. Look up the dreadnaught thread and you'll see just how the ship is best used. If you prefer going in and firing everything till you win or go boom, the MVAV is going to be the best for you. But if you want to be able to surgically remove an opponent, human or NPC, from the battle field, and seriously upset someone in the process when it comes to PVP, then go with the Galaxy-X.

But they are correct, Gal-X tends to get the @#%$ end of the stick when it comes to PvP. I have been in Arenas in which there are much MUCH more dangerous targets only to have my whole team nuke the poor little dreadnought away into nothing, and when I commented on it, they said the noob must die. Soooo in all honesty you are actually safer using the MVAM. Less chance of peeps killing you for fun.
I personally fly a sovy in PvP, and get MAJOR TRIBBLE for it, but I let my APBA do the talkin for me. I don't have as much DPS as an escort, but I certainly last longer than one. If you didn't get insta-popped that would be what you could do, tank damage and deal it with the Gal-X, but the MVAM, you're a glass cannon, run and gun style.
My two $0.01. Hope it helped.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.
First of all, you should fly what you want. Many ppl forget this is a damn game and you need to like it. Second, in a MVAE you have more DPS. Definitely. If you know how to fly an escort you wont die at all (pve even elite) and only now and then (pvp). If you don't care which ship to buy and doesn't matter, then another aspect you should think of is this: Fleet MVAM. Its a tier 4 I think, but that baby doesn't have the separation console the ztore mvam has, so if you want to use fleet mvam with separation console, you need the zstore mvam. So in this case, you might as well get this MVAM now to have the separation console for later. Also, the separation modules (2 of them, forget which ones) give you weapon bonus, turn and engine power bonus but you loose a little hull, so it's a very efficient pvp ship also. You just need to get used to it and learn how to fly it to be very efficient.
In regards to pvp, very few dreads (Gal X) are above decent. Most of them suck. Same for the Enterprise E (forgot its name). That's why when everybody sees a gal x popping an APA, they know it's an easy kill. PvPers call them failaxy. Its a ship with low output damage no matter what you do to it (and a tac with no damage is useless), and that lance shot, which buffed properly (apa, gdf, tt etc) can put out some impressive numbers, but that is a very lucky shot to an experienced pvper. Even if you use the jump console, an experienced pvper wont sit and look at you how you're getting ready to use the lance. I was only once stabbed by lance pretty bad, and it happened at the kerrat respawn point when the zone reset before I could get some tt and shields up and my defense was close to 0 since I barely start moving, and still got 20% more hull left. I would say lance is good to pop noobs/players that are already with no shields or distracted. For PVP, get the mvae all way! For pve, it really doesn't matter, the only difference is you kill poor npcs sooner or a little later (still I'd get the mvam for pve too, lol).

Are the pets from the mvam good in combat i heard they sometimes go off course
All npcs are dumb in this game. You'll find most of the time your mvae pets getting very close to the Borg cubes (think its a dev glitch due to how wide a cube is) and when the Borg explodes, so your other 2 parts of the mvae. But it really doesn't matter, all npcs have all power levels set at 50, so other than some attack patterns they spawn (apb and apd are the only one that really matter for you due to debuff and defense increase) you won't loose a big deal. So best is to consider the pets don't exist and you're on your own, safer this way.

First thing you've got to remember is that the Galaxy-X is a team ship. It's made to hide until the opportune moment, and then lash out with incredible force. No one ever uses it like this, and thus, it never does very good in PvP. Few have mastered the ability to use it like a sniper ship, but if you can, and your group is ready and good at what they do, you'll be the ship that turns the tide of a battle.
However, if you had a couple of premium margaritas that night, and you're off your game, you've had it, you'll be ripped to shreds.
The MVAM is a bit more forgiving, as it's lt. commander science slot has a lot of potential. I'm not big on the MVAM console, but some people will swear by that ship.
Of the tacs, I prefer the Defiant Retrofit, the Tac escort retrofit. It's fast, and a lot more powerful than you might think. It just feels more excessive than the others.
