Why are there so many ships named the U.S.S Prometheus!
Every single time I go to a new map (in space) I see at least 1 ship called the U.S.S prometheus. (and no, it's not the same player.)

What's so special about that name?

Sorry if my English is bad.

People just lack imagination and call their ships after the ones from the show - simple as that. Advanced Escort is one of the "free" endgame ships, so go figure.

Still, it's not as eye boggling as all the numerous chars named Jean Lucks Pikkards in teh USS Entherprizes... (in all various possible misspellings).

actually. those are actual names for liberated borg player race when you hit the random name generator. you can get the number designations. like 7 of 9's. one of my Fed borg ended up with a random designation fourteen of eleven, or a name similar to "Locutus of borg". my KDF Liberated borg ended up with the random name Turon of Borg. so everyone calls him "General Borg" XD

though. i dont think i've ever actually seen Seven Of Nine in the random name generator. I ran into Six of nine.... yes, haha. and eight of nine and nine of nine. but never hit seven of nine.

My BOFFs are named after inside jokes (Png, Ios, Ejabberd, Erlang, Gina Inviere, Seviche)

My ships are named after areas of Los Angeles:
Cruisers (San Fernando, Chatsworth, Los Feliz, Boyle Heights)
Science Vessels (Santa Monica, Tarzana, Playa Del Rey, Sepulveda)
Escorts (Lake Balboa, Wilshire, El Serreno, Melrose Place)

Started out trying to be 'elegant' and name all my ships after Roman mythological figures, but that got dull and everyone else was doing that too. Now most of my ships are named after cartoon characters, or with something from the random generator when I'm stuck for anything better.

    USS Kurotsuchi (Nebula)
    USS Beifong (Odyssey)
    USS Naomi (Armitage)
    IKS Na'pa (BoP, "I'm haunting you." )
