An Idea for a Tournament or League.

While I was reading various threads, I was remembering a few different discussions on what Pay to Win is concerened in STO.. And that is the Zen Store. Anything that you can buy from the Zen Store is considered Paying to Win.

And that made me wonder.. What if there was a tournament or League based set up where the only ships allowed were:

Raiders:
Hegh'ta Bird of Prey

Escorts:
Blockade Escort
Advanced Escort
Qin Heavy Raptor

Science:
Recon Science Vessel
Deep Space Science Vessel

Cruiser:
Star Cruiser
Assault Cruiser

Battle Cruiser:
Negh'Var
Vor'cha Battle Cruiser Retrofit

Carriers:
Vor'quv Carrier

Other ships that could be added could be:

Raiders:
Hoh'sus Bird of Prey (200,000 Fleet Marks)

Escorts:
Escort Retrofit (200,000 Fleet marks)
Scourge Destroyer Retrofit (200,000 Fleet marks)
Somraw Raptor Retorfit (200,000 Fleet marks)
Aquarius Destroyer (200,000 Fleet marks)

Science:
Research Science Vessel Retrofit (200,000 Fleet marks)
Science Vessel Retrofit (200,000 Fleet marks)

Cruiser:
Heavy Cruiser Retrofit (200,000 Fleet marks)
Odyssey Star Cruiser (200,000 Fleet marks)

Flight Deck Cruiser:
Corsair Flight Deck Cruiser (200,000 Fleet marks)

Battle Cruiser:
K'tinga Battle Cruiser Retrofit (200,000 Fleet Marks)
Bortas Heavy Cruiser (200,000 Fleet marks)

Carrier:
None

After the ship limit the obvious limit is also that of anything that came from, or comes from either the Zen store Directly, or from Currency that the Zen Store objects provide. (Lobi Crystals for example) With Doffs being the exception since you can aquire Doffs from the game it's self with out relying on the Zen Store at all.

The Idea behind this would be to see if any of us truelly are as good as we think we are when we take away the toys we have started to get attached to and start to use things that we can't just hand Perfect world Entertainment a load of cash, or trade in Dilithium for those paid for points and get our "pay to win" in order to improve our capabilities in game.

Of course it would all be for fun. And This is just an Idea, not one that I personally could run or host due to Real life obsticles and what not. But I figured I'd throw this Idea out there to see how many of us even like the Idea and if anyone in the PVP community would be up to the task of hosting something like this, weither it's a one time Tournament with some fancy prize at the end, or a Longer duration League where the best team or teams at the end get some prize, or at least reconnition for being the best.

A 1v1 Tournament or League with the above ship limitations is also plausable as well.

So.. What do you all think?

just a thought: How about P2W doffs? Doffs that are/were available only through the Z-store... :)

Slippery road... more than half the game is in the z-store now.

The only Doffs that are avaliable Via Z-store I believe is the DS9 Doffs.

Also, most Doff abilities, if not all, can be aquired Via Doff Missions in game with out touching the Z-Store. Doing the Once every 3 Day Doff Aquirement Missions on the Academys has given some interesting Doffs. I even got an SNB doff on KDF side's Academy one day. The only Doff abilities how ever that I am not 100% Sure on are the newest Reinforcement Doff packs.

Also, considering that Not every Doff ability triggers on the ability bar (But most do) it would be difficult to police.

Consoles, and Special gear from the Z-store how ever, either by Lockboxes, or alternate ship purchases are much eaiser to catch. (Except for 1 of course, being the new Quantum Torpedo)

TSI had a funday setup with similar rules. It sounded like a lot of fun but was cancelled for some reason.

With that said, it's a great idea. I was looking forward to that event and even had a couple guys from -X- that were going to be available.

This would be awesome to try and get setup. Just a all around PVP fun day with the retro ships would be scores of fun.

However, the organization of the event shouldn't be left to one but a couple. The post being "sticky" would be nice as well. Maybe an event with multiple times during the day to include people from all TZs. A PVP fun day, old school. EPIC it would be!

If the event can be organized, -X- would be happy to open our TS to the teams if they don't have voice.

I think removing the SNB/Attack pattern doff - maybe some others would fix that. Personally I'd like to see no BFIs. They make tank too much.

I guess simple solution, if you can grind it from the cadres or from a nebula, it's probably okay?

or even more simple, remove all doffs? Retro ships, no doffs, no p2w consoles, no C-store ships --- would really be interesting.

Removing the Retro ships is possible, since I listed all the Original Ships for The original End tier of the game. How ever I don't recommend saying no REtrofits since there are retrofits, like I listed in the "Other" list, that you can get from Fleet marks alone and don't require Fleet Modules.

As far as Doffs, It would come down to either an Allow or Don't allow Doffs.

And it would be eaiser to allow them, then to not allow them, because, again as I said before, it would be harder to police them all since not all of them have an Icon show up to prove it was used.

It's sad that a organized event would require policing... But that's why free ...

Anyway it was just an idea. No doffs, no p2w consoles. The old school refit ships should probably be allowed. But that's up to those that organize. However, the less cheese the better. Players are a bit spoiled with the current game. It was a lot more fun 2 years ago!

To say the game was more fun 2 years ago is a vast understatement.
The game is now more grindy, than any other mmo I've played, counting Star Wars, and Wow both, courtesy of the Horrible Doff System and now the starbase system.

Welp, it is sad that the game was more fun then it has become reciently.

The Idea is really just that, an Idea. Was more hoping it might spark something from some one else then my self personally. I mean sure I could come up with rules for a tournament that could be fun, but I have no way to run such a thing, or provide any prizes.

Ah well, judgeing by the lack of responses so far in this thread I guess it must have been a pretty stupid Idea. And it seems safe to assume that most PVPers are not willing to go back to the good ole days of no Pay to Win = Zen Store Ships, Grief to win Consoles, and other goodies they got off the Zen store. Either by Dilithium Grinding, or shelling out the money from their own Pocket.

And besides, I doubt anyone would like the Rules I'd come up with for a tournament.. they'd look something like this:

    Team Make up
5v5, 4v4, 3v3, or 2v2: Any (Feds and Klingons could team together)

Edit 1: Teams submitted would be required to provide at least Half that team's amount in Alternates. Up to a maximium of the Team's Maximium amount. Teams signed up would not have to sign up the characters being used, only the @ names. (For example: In a 2v2 Tournament, each team would need at least 1 Alternate, but could provide up to 2 Alternates.)

    Gear Limitations:
No Zen Store based Weapons, Shields, Deflectors, Engines, Consoles, or Consumables (This includes the Red Matter Capaciter)
No M.A.C.O., Klingon Honor Guard, Omega, or Assimilated Borg Sets.
Edit 2: The only Pets useable for the Vor'quv or the Corsair Retrofit would be Bird of Prey, To'Duj, Shield Repair Drones, Siphon Pods, or Slavers. (Note: if the Corsair Retrofit does come with their Zen Store Pet counterparts, then those would be allowable on the Corsair Retrofit only) Pets can be any Energy Credit, Dilithium Store, or Fleet Store based Pets.

    All Doffs are allowed.

All matches would be to 15 kills, Best 2 out of 3. (In the case of an odd Tie, a new match would start at Sudden Death, First team to get a kill wins)
To prevent Cloak "Griefing" 30 Minute Time Limit between each match. Each match would have 2 Spectators (one each team) to enforce the Time limit, and no team may stay cloaked longer then 2 minutes at a time for Re-grouping purposes. Time would start when both team signal "Ready".
Each team would also be granted 2 60 Second Time outs. The time outs would be useful for if some one had to go AFK for an emergency reason, or got Disconnected. If a time out got called, both teams would stop fighting and go to a Neutral Location no further then 20km away from each other.

Edit 3: Between matches, substitutions can be made from anyone on that team's list of Alternates. Teams would not have to be Even teams provided both teams can agree on those terms. (For example, if both teams were comprised of 5 players, and one had to drop due to IRL, both teams could then agree on a different makeup for the next and following games. Such as 5v4, 4v4, etc..)

If in League format, Wins would be worth 2 Points, Losses would be worth 0, if a Tie were to happen it would be worth 1 point. The League would run till each team had played each other Twice and then go to the "Post" season in a sudden death of the Top X Teams. (X would Depend on how many teams were involved, and would always be an Even number.)

    Bridge officer Power Limitations:
None (Unless A combination of BO and/or Doffs was found to be "OP" and deserving removal)

    Ship Limitations:

    Dilithium Limited Ships:

    Raiders:
    Hegh'ta Bird of Prey

    Escorts:
    Blockade Escort
    Advanced Escort
    Qin Heavy Raptor

    Science:
    Recon Science Vessel
    Deep Space Science Vessel

    Cruiser:
    Star Cruiser
    Assault Cruiser

    Battle Cruiser:
    Negh'Var
    Vor'cha Battle Cruiser Retrofit

    Carriers:
    Vor'quv Carrier

    Fleet mark Ships:

    Raiders:
    Hoh'sus Bird of Prey

    Escorts:
    Escort Retrofit
    Scourge Destroyer Retrofit
    Somraw Raptor Retorfit
    Aquarius Destroyer

    Science:
    Research Science Vessel Retrofit
    Science Vessel Retrofit

    Cruiser:
    Heavy Cruiser Retrofit
    Odyssey Star Cruiser

    Flight Deck Cruiser:
    Corsair Flight Deck Cruiser

    Battle Cruiser:
    K'tinga Battle Cruiser Retrofit
    Bortas Heavy Cruiser

    Carrier:
    None

I think a Season 1 tourny would be awesome. But unfortunately, I just don't have the time or schedule to commit to it :(

Yeah, with all the stuff that's going on in the game, and the desire to use all the newest and coolest ships, this tournament Idea is looking more and more like a bad one that no one would be interested in. Because no one wants to be told they can't use their favorite ships that they spent their hard earned money in order to fly it. :( Ah well, Maybe this time next year we'll all just give in to the P2W and learn to enjoy it.

Honestly I'd be game for this. I'd go so far as to say nothing better than mkX purples, no doffs, and no stupid TRIBBLE borg + sets either.

I'm surprised at the lack of interest in this type of event. I know many are still around from pre-borg gear days. And I'd suspect, like me, many of you probably still have your BG/RA ships in inventory still partially geared...

http://oi47.tinypic.com/sestnd.jpg missing a couple things but aside from the old MK X phasers from the devidian missions and the eff engine it's mostly what I ran in early 2011 before I switched to the Marauder.

With that said, no doffs, STF gear, and only BG/RA/retro-VA ships. ;) pew pew
