Hi All,

im looking for some advice as a sci player to take on a Tac Escort Prometheus or Defiant in a 1v1 situation, is it possible to even win? and if it is can you offer any advice on ship and build to perform the task

reason why is a nice little wager with the fleet leader! so all help appreciated!

All those things are important, but how good is he? If he's rubbish then there's less to worry.

You don't mention what ships you can use, but it's plausible using VM & Tykens (w/doffs), TB, TSSx, and Torps after they're shut down. The point is to offline his/her subsystems and use Torps to finish him/her off. It won't be easy b/c evasive & eng battery will get most escorts out of most traps 1v1 and you won't likely be able to catch them using a Sci boat. Also, sci's don't have a big window to max debuffs for a killing blow.

I'm going to guess you'd have enough firepower w/a Fleet MVAE to possibly do the job as well. You could use 2xTB w/SNB to keep out of their forward arc while keeping them in yours. I just don't know if you'd have the firepower as Sci to finish them off, you have to time your debuffs well and probably use BO on the debuffed target. W/MVAE you should be able to chase them down if they try and run. But, you're also vulnerable if they break their TB hold and you are baited into thinking you've got them and they spike a GDF boosted high alpha combo.

It's feasible, but you're better off in a tandom fight w/a high Alpha to support.

Yes, it is possible to do so. Things you have to do:

Watch for Tac buffs. Especially Go down fighting after being hurt badly. Probobly the best time to use a Sub Nuc is right if they have fully Buffed for an "Alpha" strike.

Avoid enemy Escort Arc. If you aren't flying an Escort your self, use any thing you can to hurt his/her turn rate. (Viral Matrix + Doffs, Chronoton Procs, even Target subsystem: Engines can be useful and don't forget tractor beams)

Photonic Shockwave can be helpful for a moment to stop the escort from fireing for a second and the knock back can some times help.

    Tac Team is your friend.

I can help you come up with a ship to counter general escorts. Join the "Sad Panda Cubs" channel where you can get advice from various Pandas. And no, we dont teach Panda hax ;)

Science toons are under powered, but not as much as people want you to believe. They are underpowered compared to what they used to be IMO and thats it.

Take Naz's offer and join the Panda's. It is the best route.

I would consider the MVAM as your vessel of choice to fight Escort with Escort, plus the heavy Tac BOff set-up with a LTC Science back-up would be helpful in shutting the other escort down.
If you can use Sensor Scan, the Sensor Scan DOff (that shutsdown damage output) may be helpful as well.

feedback pulse III 2x mk xii transphasic torpedos [acc]x2 in front and a tricoblat in back with 2 turrets and some proper heals you should have no problem taking a tactical. also sub sace jump, theta, Anti matter spread, and an awareness of your hull and shields. There is no reason a tact should take you down, unless you were not paying attention.

Want more info, them join us at Task Force Spectre. Science can have mad DPS if you know how to use it. It takes time and not pressing all your heals at once trying not to die. : )

Easiest way to win a 1v1:

2x VM 1 (with some DOffs to increase the disable times) and FBP 3.

Your enemy will be disabled for pretty much the entire time, allowing you to run 100 power in Weapons without having to worry about much (especially since VM isn't Aux dependent). Then switch to Aux and use FBP when he's hammering away at you. Once he's done, go back to VM and weapons.

You can win from a tac as a Sci (Ofcourse), but if the Tac knows how to play your subnuke etc it might get very, very hard.

The weakness of a Sci in 1v1.

with that setup, lets see how well you will fair without any proper high ranked tac abilities against a very tanky escort.

Virals are nice, but in a 1v1 it will >most likely< just prolong the match.

winning 1v1 has much more to do about when you spike, rather than how.

My greatest weakness, spike control. Its why I rarely 1vs1, unless I know the other player and respect them.

For Duels especially against escorts a warp plasma loaded excelsior with a theta console and subspace jump is basically rockstar level awesome. It can weather the damage and if you build for crits getting someone in plasma is basically an I win as weapon batteries turn its crf into a beast. Use reverse to keep them in your forward 180 even if you have to move slowly maco shields with the heals you can put on a cruiser will take the punishment.

If they Antimatter you in a 1 on 1 and your in a cruiser it means time for luls. As you can warp plasma their last know spot rather fast and then just casually drive right into them most times. At which point as I demonstrated to a friend you have no issue what so ever shooting them even when AMS'ed.

If they save their APO or HE for when a cruiser spews plasma; or fly a bug and just have double APO then its a little trickier to run them down. In that case you may just want to create a gap and heal up some.
