Ok, I've Just looked through the shipyard planning my ship progression but I can't decide upon my final ship... Do I get the Olympic retrofit or the Nova retrofit (I'm playing a science officer)
I've already weighed them up but I can't seem to put one over the other, I could have a Lt. tac, Lt. CMDR Engi, CMDR sci, Lt. Sci and Ens. Sci (Olympic) or Lt. Tac, Ens. Tac, Lt. Engi, CMDR Sci and Lt. CMDR Sci (Nova) They both have 6 weapons (3x3) but the Olympic has better crew regen and shield mod than the Nova, I think perhaps the only thing stopping me getting the Olympic is that (imo) it's ugly (as are the varients)
No money and even if I could it would still be the same question...
Nova Retro will deal more DPS and has access to a Lt Commander Sci. Olympic Retro will be focused on being a healboat AKA a medical ship since it has a Lt Commander Eng.
It really just depends on your playstyle.
I would recommend you buy neither of these ships. My reason is based off the shield multiplier. For a science ship they are extremely week in the shields and you still have the low hull issue. I would love to fly a fleet nova but I am not sinking any money into a ship with subpar shield multiplier compared to other VA ships. If cryptic would boost the shields to a 1.43 for fleet version I would not hesitate to buy the nova.
if you have the possibility to wait for a fleet nebula...get one. in the mean time accumulate the 2000 c-points for the 4 fleet ship modules.
thats what i would do. (will do)
The fleet Olympic and Nova hull strengths/shields are comparable to normal T5 science ships. However, the non-fleet versions are really bad. I would not buy them for PVE. If you are going to get the non-fleet Nova Retrofit might as well get a Luna Class.

Why do you guys feel that you must buy zen to buy fleet modules? Why not just accumulate around 20 million energy credits and buy four fleet modules off the exchange. Why spend real money on zen when you can spend fake money in game to buy the same thing? Fleet modules usually go for around 5 mil each. Let someone else throw his or her money at the game for you.

First off no they are not. Look at all teir five regular science vessels have a shield multiplier of 1.3 the not fleet Olympic and Nova are near 1.1. Don't know the real numbers I a, at work. The hull strength numbers are less specially for the Nova, but just like other ships that are smaller this is fine. the fleet teir five ships are near 1.43 in shield strength while the fleet nova and olympic are around 1.2 at best. As stated earlier I would buy the nova for theat com tac posistion if shield strength was better. I would settle for 1.3 on the fleet version. At least the you could run a STF. I am not giving up any shield strength in pvp or pve because science ships already have low hull stength. That 0.2 difference is near 2-4k in each facing shield depending on the build and consule layout.
The Fleet Nova seems like a decent ship. it for sure will have some interesting builds with that tac lt. cmdr. slot, as will the Fleet Luna with all the tactical consoles.
The Fleet Nebula is a beast, I got one for my fed sci alt and I'm loving it. I can't wait till we get the Fleet Intrepids.
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug.
After going home and looking at the shipyard. I realized that the standard science vessel(lt commander nova) has a 1.3 shield mutiplier. Which leeds me to say gain that I am not going to waiste money on an inferior ship. I would buy the fleet nova in a heart beet if it would hold up to other fleet or tier 5 ships. But cryptic has done this to all tier 5 refits or the lt commander ships the escort has a shield modifier of .77. I am starting to question if they are in this to make money. The whole lock boxes made me think so, but there decission on the fleet refits of the lt commander level ships make me think they are not. Bad business decission on Crytpics part, have the money but will not spend it.

Just thought you should know.
