Cruiser Type Question

Greetings fellow Starfleet officers.

I am currently running a Heavy Cruiser(one rank away from Captain/Ex. Cruiser) as a Science officer. The more I think about it, that might not have been the wisest decision. Should I switch over to commanding Science vessels? I do fancy tanking, though.

Do you think I would be ok using cruisers as a science officer?

Any thoughts are helpful.

:)

You're a sci captain. Stick with science ships buddy, you'll find that they are better for your base abilities.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

It's not necessary. Granted most of the skills you can train your boffs in are only useable in sci ships. There is always the option later on to get an addy or an atrox or even a nebula.

it really depends more on your play style rather than your captain choice.

Thanks. I'll stick with Cruisers and maybe I'll get a long range science vessel refit later on. :)

Wow! Amazing answer there, full of informative suggestions! Ignore this idiot. Fly what you are comfortable with. Personally my Sci officer has several fully outfitted mark XII ships and I fly whatever one I am in the mood for. My main is anAtrox carrier as it is an all around good ship, but I also have the tier 5 Defiant escort loaded up with cannon and turrets for when I feel like blowing the living daylights out of stuff and getting all aggressive. I have the Tholian Orb weaver, which is a very nice little cruiser and I have the Mirror star cruiser.

My 2nd toon just hit Commander, he is an engineer and he flies around mostly in the advanced science, though I have the excelsior as well to use when I feel like it.

Ouch. Granted I did deserve it, but ouch nonetheless. Alas he is correct however. It really is users choice when it comes to ships, but I personally think that you should stick with a ship that would best compliment your captains personal powers and in all honesty, sci captains get to have all the fun with their gravity wells and tychens rift and all those highly entertaining, purty, and effective abilities.

And sci ships are the only ones that give you LtC and Cmdr BOff slots, so they are quite... good in that respect. Plus you have shields up the kazoo, so getting smacked is not that large of an issue.
