Proposal to put Science back in the game:

It has come to my attention and seemingly the attention of many here on the forums and in the game chat channels that the Science Profession, and the Science abilities of the bridge officers of the science profession; is no longer a viable option in PVP or end game PVE, when compared to the Engineering or Tactical Professions and the abilities found thereof.

The consensus seems to be that the Science Profession neither is capable of dealing sustained or spike damage in a game that heavily relies on the players? ability to generate high volumes of Damage per Second (DPS) and neither is the Science Profession able to use its abilities any better to provide support in the form of De-Buff, Buff, Healing and/or control.

But how do we fix the Science Profession with the least amount of effort and in a fashion that not only makes sense, but is also balanced? My proposal is to re-work a few of the Science Profession Bridge Officer skills in order to allow the Science Profession its own notch that is neither a healer like the Engineering Profession or a DPS master like the Tactical Profession. That notch is in my opinion the role of a Buff/De-Buff class with a side of Control Abilities.

Proposed Changes to Bridge Officer Abilities:

Tachyon Beam: Removes X shield buffs, where X is the rank of the ability. Reduces Y shield regeneration to target; effectiveness increases with higher auxiliary power level.

Examples of Shield Buffs: Emergency Power to Shields Damage reduction Buff, Reverse Shield Polarity, Rotate Shield Frequencies damage reduction buff, Transfer Shield Strength damage reduction Buff.

Ensign: Remove (1) shield Buff from target. ?Y shield regeneration over 6 seconds.
Lieutenant: Remove (2) shield Buffs from target. ?Y shield regeneration over 12 seconds.
Lieutenant Commander: Remove (3) shield Buffs from target. ?Y shield regeneration over 18 seconds.

Science Team: Cleanse X Science De-Buffs where X is the rank of the ability. % increase to all science skills over duration; Duration increased with increased auxiliary power level (Max 10 seconds).

Ensign: Cleanse (1) Science De-buff from target.
Self: +2% all science Skills for Y seconds. Duration Improved based on Current Auxiliary Power level
Lieutenant: Cleanse (2) Science De-buff from target.
Self: +4% all science Skills for Y seconds. Duration Improved based on Current Auxiliary Power level.
Lieutenant Commander: Cleanse (3) Science De-buff from target.
Self: +8% all science Skills for Y seconds. Duration Improved based on Current Auxiliary Power level.

Jam Sensors: De-Buff target Sensors, Countermeasures and Targeting Sensors by X%; increased effectiveness based on auxiliary power levels.

Formula to solve for X is: X = 0.50 x Auxiliary power level.

Ensign: De-buff Sensors, Counter measures and Targeting Sensors by X for 8 seconds
Lieutenant: De-buff Sensors, Counter measures and Targeting Sensors by X for 12 seconds
Lieutenant Commander: De-buff Sensors, Counter measures and Targeting Sensors by X for 18 seconds

With these three changes to three of the Science Bridge Officer Profession abilities, I believe the Science Ship will once again have a real role in PVE and PVP. Please Discuss.
