Orion Marauder Patrol Cruiser

I am somewhat new to the KDF, not to the game though. I have three KDF right now, they are more or less "testers" - testing ships and getting Duty Officers to upgrade so everything is ready to go when I have get my real characters going. I role play to some degree, as such, I have an interest in particular ships for particular characters. One mix I had in mind was an Orion Engineer with a Marauder Patrol Cruiser, which leads to my question. How does the Marauder Patrol Cruiser hold up to other end-game ships? I note that it is a level 40 ship, not 50, but does that make a noteable difference? Would this be a decent tanking vessel compared to other ships?

Any advice is appreciated.

It would be a fine tank, get some shield repair drones and they will add to your defense or use others for some extra offense.

I know it will be expensive but the Fleet Corsair has the beauty of an Orion Cruiser in T5 flavour and but it's very Sci spec from memory.

    Com & Ens: Eng
    Lt.Com & Lt: Sci
    Lt: Tac

A Marauder, is a Star Cruiser with a Hanger bay, making it that bit better than a Star Cruiser IMO, able to change to fighters, Shield Repair or Slavers (Free stuff is awesome) depending on the situation.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001.

This from one who flies bops:

As I see it, paper stats wise, the patrol cruiser will work fine as a tank in any current content.

It will just be a matter of getting the right weapons, consoles, and boff skills onto it, but that's true for any ship in any role.

Thank all for the replies, I will probably eventually get it, any other comments are appreciated. I know from looking at the stats that it would perform decently, which I suppose is good enough. The consoles, weapons, Boff layout is the fun part... Probably six or seven beams and a mine set...

As for the Fleet Corsair, I prefer it actually, I like the looks better, the stats better, the cost less. I still believe that these fleet ships are a rip off and will not purchase a single one til I see other wise or they are changed. Were it account wide, there would be no choice between the two, but since its not, i'll go with the lesser, but account wide option, the Marauder (more than likely) as the differences aren't that major from what I recall.

I'm sure you can get a 9 Console version for 200,000 Fleet Credits. I intend to update quite a few of my old favourites that way.

Yah, but then its for a single character, which puts makes that amount of fleet credits not worth it.

In my case, and I suspect many others, as a F2P I am only allowed two characters on the account - 1 Fed to rank up far enough to get the 1 Klingon I really want - so any ship I get will in effect be character-wide. Unless and until I decide to spent real money on additional character slots - it is a lot easier just to start another account.

It is awesome for an eng. I have used it a lot.
The only issue I have with it is the lack of canons.
I will be using a fleet corsair r from now on,

Also, use advanced slavers for the pet. You make money while you fight :)
Should I start posting again after all this time?

The MFDC makes an excellent Tank and healer.
    Put a 3 piece Borg + KHG shield on it, slap some Siphon drones in the Hangers, (2) Damage control Officers, (2) Shield Distributuon officers, (1) Warp core Engineer;
    EPTS1 EPTS2 EWP1
    EPTA1 RSP1 A2SIF2 EXT3
    HE1
    TSS1 ST2
TT1 (Beam Target Subsyetm of choice)

    (6) Beam arrays and (2) mines and have fun in PvP.
    Leonard Nimoy, Spock.....:(

Marauder is my favourite ship. Excellent tanker (possibly best KDF side imo due to boff layout). I can take on Elite Donatra and tac cubes by myself, get and keep its aggro and stay alive until it dies.

Sure it's ugly but it does grow on you. It's beautiful in it's uniqueness.

See my sig for my build.
No need to use hanger for heals, use it for dps boost (or free stuff with slavers).

Fleet corsair is too sci heavy to be as good a tanker as the Marauder imo and the Corsair refit you sacrifice hull so again not as tanky.

Here's a look at the ship for you. With CANNONS!! STF and a Fleet Star Base Alert.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBo6o1l501g&feature=youtu.be

Why Cannons and Torpedoes? Because its how the KDF makes things go BOOM! And just because someone may bring this up........

If you simply MUST run this ship in the Blockade Event, just get two tactical teams and two extend shields. You don't ever even need to engage the NPC's. Just get into range to use TT and extend on the freighter. If the NPC's target you just run your own defenses. Keep engine power and throttle jammed high the entire time. Profit.

EDIT: Interesting to note, the ship I use is fitted out in all white common gear. So you can be assured that it works as is. Better gear is just a bonus I suppose, and it is fun to get!

Thank you for all the replies, has helped me out a great deal, I think once my Orion Engineer is to level I will be purchasing the vessel.

I was planning on doing beams/mines, but the previous posters cannon/turret build has intrigued me, it'll be fun to test out the builds on this, I have no doubt you all will be hearing from me again in a few months when I start testing (What? I have several character, it'll be awhile before I get to this one).

    Thanks again.
