Anecdotally I had someone doing horrendous hull damage earlier with either transphasic mines or plasma mines... I run a very defense-light setup but I am specced into kinetic resists, yet these things were chunking off hull like it was no tomorrow.
It's still just an anecdote since who knows what he was actually running (it was a LSRV with just pure mines for its weap loadout) but Jesus!
Lol. I was wondering if some one would say something about my fun in kerrat with my double or tripple mines. (Depending what setup i was trying out) I am the one who dealt that lovely mine damage. I was running attack pattern omega 1, attack pattern alpha Tactical team torpedo high yield 2 and cannon rapid fire 3. I used dispersal pattern beta which drops 2 mines. I probably used go down fighting and fire on my mark 3 aswell.
I purposely dropped the mines so they would be behind the enemy then unleased the cannon rapid fire on the front of his ship, this lead to his tactical team drawing power from the other 3 shields to the front of his ship, leaving his aft shields weakened ready for the mines to hit hi aft. With all those buffs running it certainly eats away an enemy ships shields and the tricobalt mines are both purple, one is a borg one from the stfs and the other has 2xcrit and a 1xdmg.
It was a good attack run. I had many a failure as well as success. I was mostly testing for a new stf setup but it was fun trying it out on a few enemy players.
Oh and I was flying a Fleet Patrol Escort firing all MKXII Antiproton weapons with 4xPurple MKXII antiproton consoles, my projectile skills are all set at 9 and staship projectile specialisation is set to about 7 or 8
Hmm... After reading what Holyhelmet posted, my best guess is that either A: It was just a REALLY Lucky Crit.. or B: The Tricobalt Mines got an accidental boost that they weren't supposed to recieve when the fix to the Tricobalt Mine/Pattern Bug got corrected.
Not that I'm complaining of course.
Guess this means to really watch for Speed Bumps. :cool:

Keep in mind there are pets that drop these things too. The normal player cooldown can be subverted via doffs. Granted they won't do as much damage as a player boost tric mine, but there could be a lot of them on the field at a given time and quickly replenished.

It use to be more predominate when tric torp were good and people actually built tric bomber builds.
If you can get the torp/mine damage past a certain level to be so high that it surpasses shield facing cap and res, even one damage past that point triggers the torp/mine to deal full damage to hull.
for example 10000 shield at 20 res the torp/mine has to pass 200,001 damage to trigger this event where full damage is delt to hull.
Someone said something of the line of sensor scan.I think this can also factor in, the torp hits it reads torp hit target for 50k , target is debuff hits for 80k ( not real math) now it factors in shield, the debuff raise the torp overall damage, now the overall torp damage might get that boost to bypass the shield cap/res if it can pass it by one damage.
What happen was the mine crit , your res was to low/ shield cap. This is very rare and Ive only done it 3x to other people with full shields.
Not many people know about this because not many people ran trico bombers before the nerf .
If tric mine was buff this might be more common but it really not a Iwin its a freak of luck and luck

Tac Captain Buffs + Dispersal Pattern Beta 3 + 2 Trico Mines = 4 Mines that disable, generate subspace rifts, and deal north of 50k damage a piece every thirty seconds. Oh, and if you're wondering, no, one going off will not destroy the other three. Space they occupy is roughly the width and height of a Star Cruiser.

well now that you mentioned how it could be abused in pve it'll sure to be adjusted soon(ish) lol
While I haven't done it yet please keep in mind KDF Ad frigs drop Tric mines. While my Tac-Fi (AbusingP2WEnjoy) will abuse this @ somepoint, NPC pets really need to be considered when buffing mines.

im thinking of adding 1 to my warp plasma dumps, though im not speced in projectile damage at all. would it be worth it? are those huge damage numbers only gettable when buffed and speced to the max?

I have been a victim of these and they aren't pretty.
Especially when they're on the spawn and in the 1 second interval where you don't have shields when you respawn, they can and will instapop you...
You have no skills, and you don't know how to PvP.
But mines with fitting consoles are a nightmare atm. So there is hope it wasn't your fault
Atm respawn mining is ganking at its finest. Once you conquer the opponent, he has no chance of coming back.
