Cryptic: Add a Phased Battle Cloak to Regent = massive sales

edited August 2012 in Federation Discussion
Right now the feedback I see is that not many people intend to buy this ship.

However - I have heared the Idea of a Phased Battle Cloak - which was seen in the TNG incident with the Romulans.

Now that in game the Federation is at war with both the Klingons and Romulans(fighting in a whole story arc) and the Romulan star empire does not exist - neither do the treaties that forced them to stop the phased cloak resaerch in TNG(so the phased cloak is already canon)

I can tell you 2 things - as it its - sales of the Regent will bomb

Add a Phased cloak as the special console and I am positive that it will sell 2x as may ships as the Oddy - and that is big $$$

The romulan star empire has relocated to Rator III. If you doubt our existence I suggest you try reading the license plate on those beautiful green ships sending plasma torps your way before you respawn.

NO NO NO never battle cloak for feds,

    thxbye

How about a transphasic shockwave console with a range of 100 km and 1 million points of kinetic damake that (since it transphasic) ignores shiels instead?

how about a console that lets your captain beam onto the enemies bridge, kick their captain in the ballsack, and beam back?

I'd pay real world money for that

As you point out since the Romualns are now attacking - and destroying Fed ship(if you are not good enough) all treaties regarding the phased cloak seen in TNG would be null and void

Phased battle cloak = millions in sales of the Regent for Cryptic

Let me ask you the question - would this console = millions in sales of the Regent?

Becaue right now it seems not many are interested in it.

have you ever kicked a female in the crotch? trust me it hurts a lot all the same as that area is just as if not more sensitive than it is on men

tho maybe for the sake of fun if it's a female captain we can make it a pimp smack instead?

I really do hope that they don't come out with a phased battle cloak for the Federation, and I am a Fed only player.

-1 to this idea from me.

Because of the simple fact the KDF playerbase want the KDF to keep their unique aspects.

Fed's have cloak, that's gone... they have a carrier, that's gone. Battle cloak is essentially the only one remaining.

In other words, even suggesting they lose a unique aspect will be met by a lot of opposition from that side.

hey hey don't forget about the Orion chicks and the Gorn.... I rolled a KDF for those more than a battle cloak

the fact that fed ships cloak is a debateable topic , yes i know the treaty is null and void in game , but cloaking fed ships is just .. wrong in my opinion . its only ever been done in an alternate timeline ( galaxy -X ) and a one off loaned by the romulans , its bad enough every tac escort refit and dread in game have one without adding more and on top of that a phasing cloak ( arguably better than a battle cloak since it passes through solid objects )

    so TL;DR

    no

Ok I am talking DOLLARS here - something Crypic wants.

As it is the Regent - is not up to what most people had hoped - but its a new Assualt - bring it to the front lines with the phased battle cloak

All I can say is the IT WOULD OUTSELL the Oddy - that is a FACT - I can't even grasp how many would be sold - like 50% of Fed players at least

what % or revenue come from KDF? - Im talking revenue - not the 16% of player base stat - its probably like 5%

I think selling a billion Regents would FAR outweigh and revenue lost from the KDF side

Is the fact the reaction from pretty much everyone else in this thread being negative is sinking in at all levi ?
If you think back to the episode , the guy backing this project was arrested and shamed for what he tried to do
If anyone needs more kinds of cloaking device its the KDF , i dont give a damn how much money it'd make, it still has to be passed by CBS first

What about the TNG episode where Picard uses the phased cloak to get out of the Asteroid - that was not alternate timeline or a loan - it was being developed in secect by a group in starfleet to level the playing field - Adm (forget his name but remember the line) :"remove the advantage that the Klingons and Romulans have had over us for centuries"

yes , said guy was promptly arrested and full details of the cloak were presented to the romulans

it was illegal and they only used it to escape after the romulans ' accidentally ' trapped the enterprise inside the asteroid

But we already phase right through asteroids in STO. A phased cloak is standard equipment these days and kicks in when your ensign helmsman gets sloppy.

Those same thousands would buy the ship if it came with an e-bunny rabbit instead of a console.

I know why you're suggesting it. I'm just saying there will be opposition from the KDF, because they're losing a unique aspect.

And how do you know that many people want the Feds to have a battle cloak? What says they want one in the first place?

Why a phasing cloak anyway ?
theres enough debateable things in this game as is
not to mention every T5 ship console the federation has , does something that the SHIP OWNING IT has used on screen

when have we seen a phasing sovereign class ?

Sure. As soon as ALL cloaks are upgraded to battlecloaks. At the moment the battlecloak is one of the few perks of the Klingon paper plane, giving a better one to a Fed cruiser without upgrading them for the others would be completely nuts.

Also I don't get what you would want with it. Imagine how flying into a planet would look like at the moment

As someone else pointed out - you pretty much fly through asteroids and other objects some time already! So technically implementation wise it should not be that hard

But say someone is firing a Quantum torp spread 3 at you - you hit the phased cloak and the torps pass right through
