I've bean tossing this idea around in my head for the last 2 months I think it might solve the issue for the game starving for kdf content. I propose that the release a KDF expansion Pack much like some other games release expansions packs namely WOW and LOTRO. Yes I'm proposing an Expansion that we would have to pay for which would solve the problem for those of us who enjoy playing KDF. I would love to hear other ideas anyone might have

If they did it right, it's something I'd be willing to pay a reasonable amount for. But getting kdf right... not something the devs put much effort into, alas
I would gladly purchase such if, and only if, it was genuinly constructed to give the KDF a true amount of content equal to the cost they would sell it it to the fanbase for. Not some pverpriced under developed money grab meant to lossen my funds for my wallet based on my desire to see more content.
It would have to contain enough thoughtful amd intriguing storyline missions to fil in what we lack to give us from level one play. It would need far more KDF unique costume options and unique items of gameplay for us to cover all the races in the KDF.
Basically it would have to be worth money and not be soiled by cheapness or lackluster design.
Level 1-20? ... nah, I'll pass. I'm perfectly fine starting at 20 ... you're not going to take that away, are you?
Or do you want it to be something that's actually NECESSARY to play KDF? If that's the plan ... then gratz on an idea that would probably really kill the faction. I mean, do you really think more people would PAY to play what's now free?
Or ... just a lot of pay-to-win goodies? If that's the plan, then that would horribly backfire - feds would get the same offer, just better.
Fortunately ... fortunately this idea is totally incompatible with Cryptic's/PWE's business model for this game: content is free, ships and fluff aren't.
By changing that, I'd guess they'd drive more people away than they'd get to pay for this game ... you could just as well ask them to return to subscription model for payment, we all know how well that worked, don't we?
So, what am I missing that makes this idea even remotely good? Currently I'd rate it a bit below horrible.
Having to pay for a new faction well.....well after release I don't think is right. I'm not sure how many would pay for this but I'm not 100% confident it would turn a profit...or least the profit that would come if they did something like it for feds.
Make one for romulan, one for orion, one for gorn, one for vulcan, one for ferengi...
IF PW/Crypt make custom content as race expansion pack, giving the right to have an extra character slot for a race, with a unique or custom racial ship, with the exclusive access to unique racial content like episodes, items and uniforms of the expansion race, this is a thing I really want to buy!
If make a expansion like a "Bundle", to cover a lot of cool and unique content to a race, we can have a deal, boy.
If make a expansion of orion, klingon, vulcan and ferengi, I become poor, but happily spend my money on it! Shut up and take my money now!
(but please, don't place anything over 2.000 zen xD )
I am by no means saying p2w goodies, lvl1-20 or something that would be required to play kdf but something like LOTRO is completely optional but would give content that could be played by yourself or with others who have the required pack. For example maybe some missions or even some kdf specific raid-style content

I can maybe answer that with some ideas. Make the added missions content level agnostic, as Bitemepwe has suggested and then give someone the OPTION of starting at level 1 as a KDF using these new missions and storylines to fill in the space with the result being that someone who starts at 1 would get a slight advantage over someone who starts at level 20. Perhaps some slightly different mission rewards or some such.
If you are level 20, you can still do them as they would have no level requirement, and still get suitable rewards for doing them.
I'm a content booster junkie in a way, as long as the package is worth it. It doesn't even have to have any special goodies, as long as the content itself is really well worked out.
There would need to be KDF oriented ground Kits (Targ/Saurian summoner for example), costume options, Storyline missions, even STFs with KDF overtones (though faction agnostic so it adds to the endgame), possibly even KDF weapons that only are availible to the faction.
Any expansion must have enough content of varying degrees to draw in the purchaser or it will be ill recieved by the fanbase.
As to the whole " starting at level one will kill the faction", I disagree. Feds start at level one yet no one walks away from them due to content that exists to level up upon.
Give the KDF the same option to start at level one and climb through the ranks and the faction will not die. If you are already at endgame then the level one to 20 content has no effect on your gameplay as you do not need to do it other than to play something new for the fun of it since it can be level agnostic in design.
What level 1 to 20 missions will do is allow the KDF player to amass the missing resources that they currently do not start with and must have mailed to them via an already existing higher level KDf toon or even fed toon. It would put the factions on equal quality of gameplay.
More importantly, completing the KDF faction in any method would finally put to rest the underlying unrest over the KDF having been often overlooked for the last two years. The faction would be complete to a level of definition that leaves littel doubt and the Devs could move on to other areas of the game that need liek the Romulans.

Once again I am forced to agree with my Esteemed colleage.
I would gladly pay for some more missions of the quality of the current KDF exclusive storyline missions.

Songs will not be written about you playing missions. Truth is, great battle, battles that will place you in the hall of warriors is only attainable through PvP performance.

Stop trying to undermine people getting cryptic to pay attention. Not everyone is a PVPer.
The ONLY reason Redside has less than 30-40% is the lack of development.
Period.
PWE would make money on it if they developed the core of KDF first.
Look to the official numbers for SW:ToR Sith vrs Republic. Or ANY game with 2 factions. Redside is almost always the same for PvE participation, about 35%. And often even for PvP participation. (I'll have to dig through my past posts for the links to SWToR and WoW exact numbers)
PWE/Cryptic is too willing to blame the lack of Klingon popularity at Cons, the preference for Fed in the Star Trek fanbase. This isnt a Con, its an MMO. And Redside always has over twice what we do with a little effort. The IP's Fanbase does not determine a game's factional population, as evidenced by SWToR's numbers, for example.
That said, the net profits from Redsider development is likely lower across any game. But it hurts the game as a whole to keep on the way they have. Even content moving forward is a start. Unique base content for each faction is a necessity.
EDIT: The post where I linked to the WoW and SWToR redside numbers is here:
...The fact that Cryptic can only muster "16%" is based on their attitude and lack of effort, NOT the influence of the Star Trek franchise and its fanbase.

I don't go to Cons, I can be found at the stripjoint down the street, downing mass amounts of bloodwine and telling stories of glorious battles to any that listen.
