Since the S6 launch I've noticed that PvP queues -on both Fed and KDF sides- are taking longer and longer to start, especially ground PvP.
I used to do all my 3-match dailys (arena, assault or CnH) in less than an hour. Now I can spend a whole playing session (usually 4-5 hours) waiting for a PvP engage popup to come up, and even then sometimes it counts down to zero without all players confirming then it's back to square one. So frustrating!
I understand the new S6 grind-fest might have drawn players away from PvP, what with all the resources you need to upgrade your starbase just to unlock mail or a broken transwarp conduit (Yay...), but seriously, where's the fun in that? Seems more like a job than a game, if you ask me.
Anyway, is PvP being gradually pushed out of the STO equation? What do you think?
Yes, weather its by Cryptic design or an effect of the grind that is Season 6, PVP is quieter. The irony being that by the time the best PVP worthy ships become readily avalible, there won't be anyone left to use them against.
Not sure what the point of the OP's thread is though, PVPs decline has already been documented in nearly every PVP thread and then talked to post-exaustion.

PVP is being slowly eliminated from most online games
Even the nasty vicious ones like WOW and EVE are losing pvp
No? Pvpers are playing other pvp games. On sto specifically, there is a reasonably significant group playing/going to play MWO.
WoW overall is losing players both pvp and pve slowly and Eve is at a stable pop, also has dust 514 coming out being pvp oriented.
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] Your Ramming Speed III deals 52098 (99235) Kinetic Damage(Critical) to Remus.
I dont know about ground pvp but i dont have to wait long for space matches. Of course it depends on the time but in the evening there are enough matches. At least fed side, klinks have to wait a bit longer sometimes.

Don't mind him. He's just perpetually butt hurt about the face rollings he gets on a regular occassion in every game he ever plays. He's good at totally ignoring reality, that the MLG is making more revenue than ever, has higher and higher ratings, and more games over all seeking to join it.
I'd make a happy suggestion to you to never reply to one of his little rants, cause it will just get him banned (again) but you already took his bait :P
Carry on Captkirrahe. Carry on.
TO OP: pvp is dying down cause we are all farming for our starbases like crack heads looking for their next fix. Once everyone gets their T3 and 4 shipyards the ques will fill back up. It's also taking hits, because there are alot of good games coming down the pipe. STO always suffers tremendously in the pvp ques when new titles are released or are about to release. Because the sto pvp community are primarily Gamers First.
Personally, I don't think it has a lot to do with STO directly. I mean, yes, PvP in this game is only played by a minority, and a big reason for that is Cryptic's repeated struggles with balance issues, and hasty development schedule. But if there's an apparent decline in population, I'd be likely to chalk that up to other games having better, more engaging, more immediately-satisfying PvP and PvE-Skirmish models.
League of Legends is the biggest online example of this, and the impending (I think it's still impending?) release of DOTA2 will only make it tougher to keep players interested.
There's also really great PvE skirmishes available in games like ME3 that satisfy a lot of the itch that PvPers have to jump straight into the action against a challenging enemy.
In other words, classic MMO PvP models are getting old, and not aging well. This is not limited to STO, but is true across the industry. They need to evolve into something more competitive and stop rehashing the same things older games have done.

I have beaten cars, that are factually more potent than the ones I drive in Forza.
I also don't need to see you inaction, since you have stated that pve requires specialized builds to beat it. I can beat any of this games pve, save for Fleet Events, and STFs in my Shuttle. That's hardly specialized.
Actually Eves population is stable, and saying wow is in financial trouble?
Kid they still have millions (quite literally millions) of subscribers. Even after losing 4 million subs they are still well ahead of the game. Blizzard has made every bit of profit from wow they need to. You also seem to not understand, starcraft2, is still going strong, and it's big money maker especially in asia, is the pvp.
Then you have Tribes which is doing absurdly well for itself, and world of tanks is still going strong. And now we have Mechwarrior coming. To say nothing of Call of duty, battlefield, and Halo's franchises. Which are driven soley by their pvp.
Maybe you should go back to your make believe land that you try to pass of as reality. Cause you keep getting slapped own every time you leave it.
who cares??
you are a bit of a bully who hates me because im not prepared to kiss your feet
well get used to it
I've killed T5 ships in a Shuttle. So I have indeed won fights at not only fair, but seriously disadvantaged.
I hear you have killed shuttles in a t5
I have beaten cars, that are factually more potent than the ones I drive in Forza.
And I have eaten two 16 inch four cheeses pizzas in 24 hours so what??
Actually Eves population is stable, and saying wow is in financial trouble?
I suggest you accept that These are FACTS
Eve is declining and WOW has lost income lately
Kid they still have millions (quite literally millions) of subscribers.
so does the Sun newspaper (its still in finanical trouble)
Even after losing 4 million subs they are still well ahead of the game.
so you DO know they lost 1/3rd of their income base then
Blizzard has made every bit of profit from wow they need to. You also seem to not
understand, starcraft2, is still going strong, and it's big money maker especially in asia, is the pvp.
until the law changes and "online gambling and gaming" become illegal in some parts of asia
(next year)
Then you have Tribes which is doing absurdly well for itself, and world of tanks is still going strong. And now we have Mechwarrior coming. To say nothing of Call of duty, battlefield, and Halo's franchises. Which are driven soley by their pvp.
all of which are taking hits as the east slowly legislates out these sort of games
Maybe you should go back to your make believe land that you try to pass of as reality. Cause you keep getting slapped own every time you leave it.
but not by you
not ever
you like many PVP fanatics do not realise that the way to win in a discussion is not to make disgusting slurs about people
You're so cute. I guess you're trying to get your forum ban even faster this time?
Me a bully. Fraid not kid. I'm sorry I beat you so hard that you uninstalled the game for a while. Really I am.
Evidently you care an awful lot about the things I do and don't do. Might as well list em.
I mean hell, if you really didn't care, kid you wouldn't be so obsessed with me.
Blizzard is making money hand over fist kid. Activision is as well. They haven't come close to losing money each quarter. The burden of proof is on you.
You see, the thing is Blizzard doesn't need anywhere need a million subs at this point for wow to be profitable. They have long past the point of return of investment. I know it's hard for you to fathom this kid, but wow's been around for a while, longer than you've been gaming most likely.
Yeah, again, burden of proof is on you kid. I know you have a vendetta against "mean ole pvpers" but your little vendetta? Doesn't apply to the rest of the world. Especially countries that actually get significant economic production out of pvp.
See the thing is, Halo etc, they make $ here. Lots of it. It's not just the East. The East actually RTS and MMOs are King.

either they are making a smaller profit or they are lying to the IRS
which do you think is more likely??

or China (who are banning games that encourage "person on person violence")
See the thing is, Halo etc, they make $ here. Lots of it. It's not just the East. The East actually RTS and MMOs are King.
but as halo is not the case in point (despite the fact it too is in decline)
what does it matter
now stop refering to people as "kid" stop refering to peoples Rear ends
and stop being such a complete lock box
ive pvped less since season 6 started, lots of fleet grinding to be done, and i leveled my first new character in over a year and a half. most pvpers can proboly say similar things, and that leaves the ques more empty. its temporary though, last time this happened was when the stfs were the new hotness and everybody didnt have its gear yet

Smaller profit, doesn't mean they are Losing Money. The two terms are quite different things. And that smaller profit only refers to wow in particular. As a company they are still making oodles of money over all.
I suggest you post the overall earnings of Activision/Universal. For the last 5 years. Kid.
And you behave like a 13 year old, that just got his dreams of being Jim Kirk shattered by a stray overload. Your behavior is actually getting worse if anything, kid.

You do realize pvp doesn't make it's primary (not even close to primary) revenue on gambling right? Oh right you don't. Gaming over there is like Racing, and Sports anywhere else. There's sponsorship deals, tournaments, television network licensing rights, and so much more.
It matters because your lil facerollin view of the world isn't reality, Kid. Though maybe I should stop calling you a kid. Because I'm being insulting to children when I do so. Janeway Fan.
back on topic, although trollvax is undenyable a very entertaining forum (ab)user,
i really fear that PVP in sto is coming to an end. I sure hope they don't remove it alltogether, but i think thats what goozer was pointing at, before he left (hope he didn't leave because he saw no way out of the hole STO PVP is in right now)
in my opinion it will be untouched for another year...if after that nothing happens...then we can count 3 years of untouched PVP content...to me thats dead.
Since the S6 launch I've noticed that PvP queues -on both Fed and KDF sides- are taking longer and longer to start, especially ground PvP.

Not sure where you saw that, but you've been misinformed. Most of the new school of MMOs that will be rolling out in the next year, are adopting shooter type combat, in favor over the standard lock-on spacebar mash, in order to make PvP more of a challenge. New Game Informer has an article on it.
Anyway, is PvP being gradually pushed out of the STO equation? What do you think?
(EDIT: woah, this post got waay longer than indended...)
I can only speak for myself. I have at times been very active in pvp, but the last weeks my attendance has been sporadic at best. The reason for this? It's easy: PETS!
Especially the carrier-escort is borderline gamebreaking IMO, combining extreme DPS with superior CC. 2 of these working together puts an end to almost any pug v pug match.
Today, after a few days of PvE fleetmark grinding, I thought I'd swing by a match in my sciship. One match, and I went right back to PvE grinding, because that was more fun (and that's saying a lot!!). Ok, I went up against a semi-premade-pugmade, but that didn't make it less painful. As soon as I got near the enemy group, I had 2-3-4 tractorbeams thrown at me from different sides, and was rendered immobile. Adding to the frustration: I could not see the pets tractoring me, because making them visible would lag me out.
Right now, pvp is less entertaining than pve-grind to me (!). Maybe I'm just burned out, or maybe pvp has finally decended below the fun of grinding? Anyway, I don't see myself queuing much in the near future.
If it starts rewarding a decent amount of fleetmarks, I may que up more. If I run up against a pet heavy team, I can just not make an effort and let it end quickly. Should be less hassle than pve and about equally boring to grinding pve... If I split my screen I may at least catch up on the news while waiting for it to end.
