I've heard people saying there will be a C-Store Assault Cruiser. Where did you hear this? will we really?
Can't remember if it was Stahl or Geko that mentioned it in their last podcast interview, but they said the Sovereign Refit is coming. But won't be available til around Season 7.
I heard that it was going to be a Vesta Class ship. It is the type of ship that Ezri Dax captains in the novels.
vesta wont be the sovereign refit sadly ( even though it should be imo )
it'll be a science vessel , should be coming pretty soon too , for which im super excited
from this months ask cryptic
Q: (deutchcraft) Are we ever going to see the Vesta class in game?

Dstahl: Ask me again in one month.
Right. As I recall, Vesta is a Science ship that can equip dual heavy cannons.
thats whats been said on the interviews so far , no definate date , though its pretty sure they have the rights by now , if not then very close.
the typical PWE information blackout on stuff like this annoys me though , cant for the life of me understand why they cant just let cryptic tell the community whats coming instead of everything having to be a surprise
A Sovereign retrofit? Seems pretty pointless to me.
The Sovereign is badly in need of an upgrade to live up to its name sake.
The Sovereign is supposed to be an Assault Cruiser, which implies that it should rock from a Tactical standpoint. Its mediocre at best. It has one Lt and one Ens tactical.
The 200 year old Excelsior Retro is superior. The Lt Cmdr tactical BO slot makes it that way.
A Sovereign refit should have a Lt. Cmdr tactical, and a Lt Universal slot.

the thing though, is the the sovereign atm is the best balanced boff layout, and alot of players that use the sovy like me don't want to see this go, just bump the tac boff would do for the boff layout plus all the other changes.
Also to make things confusing here, according to this article, http://sto.perfectworld.com/blog/?p=621601 will the new sovereign be a retrofit or a refit. Which one did the devs say? because in the article it explains what the refit and retrofit means to us and the ship.

I agree , they really need to do the sovvy refit a similar way to the excelsior , it needs that Lt Cmdr tac slot

I would much rather be flying my Sovereign. I tried to stay in it as long as I could, but finally had to move to the Excelsior retro for the additional firepower.
If it was a C-Store ship for a new Sovereign, Id buy it in a second.
every time i try another ship I keep going back to the sovy for me, it has the best boff layout just needs a bit more punch/teeth to her , which the devs will give without losing any other boff layout. Plus the increase basic stats e.g. turn rate etc plus heard the new sovy will have a 180 degree quantum torpedo launcher hopefully with the ability to fire both high yield and torpedo spread. Wish they did something for the phasers though.

Its going to be a console most likely , and then it'll do one thing really . i think a 180 degree torp launcher that can fire high yield AND spreads is a bit of a stretch
with stuff like this you have to be careful about adding too much to avoid the ' god ship ' syndrome
really , think about it , sovereign with increased turn rate , 180 degree torps AND increased phasers ?

lol does not need to uber increased just a little. basic turn rate is what 7 so increase to 8. If the don't increase the tac boff then the 180 degrees is not a bad idea, even still I don;t think it is a bit off a strech if they added both considering what is out now and what will be out soon.
Also in sto lore it is said the E had a another major refit done to make it more exploration/science vessel so another science boff stations at ensign level maybe another addition to the ship it they also decide not to increase the tac boff station.
Because it will be introduced very close to the Fleet version, I suspect they'll make the two ships different but similarly relevant.
We've seen the Fleet Assault Cruiser on Tribble, which is Tac heavy.
I think the C-Store one will be a bit more balanced towards a slightly Science-y skew and will play up the skintight shields from Nemesis.
That way, people will want both for different reasons.
hopefully we will get the skin tight shields from nemesis as the design of the E. But as many players have mentioned this including me, that has an understanding of how the game engine works they all have said its impossible even though I suggested of using the effect of the original polarize hull to simulate the effect of skin tight shields which when you look at it, it looks like you have skin tight shields. But o well. Can still dream.

The Soveign Layout is available still in the form of the Heavy Cruiser retrofit, Fleet Heavy Cruiser Retrofit and, ofcourse, the Assault Cruiser.
What this post is referring would be adding a "Fleet Assault Cruiser." Not really a retrofit, but with improved stats and an improved BOFF layout. Similar to the Fleet Patrol Escort or Fleet Vorcha Retrofit.
broadsides are the left and right of a ship if fore and aft torpedos using this launcher can fire 180 degress then you can broadside with them
and a two minute cooldown for a console is too long ?
with the exception of the cloaking device every console has a cooldown of 2 minutes or above
No, I'm afraid he's right. 180 Degrees do not overlap, they are adjacent to eachother. As the enemy ship left the arc of fire on one torpedo bay they'd enter immediately into the arc of the next torpedo bay. I guess you could wait for just the right moment, launch one torpedo, then launch the next a moment later.
But even if we shrugged it off and gave you the extra degree, it would be practically unlikely to broadside if you only had one degree to work with. You'd want a 220 degree torpedo launcher, like a beam bank.
i know they dont overlap , but it wouldnt exactly be hard to get side on to a cube and spam torpedoes , impractical i know , but no doubt someone would try it
i know they dont overlap , but it wouldnt exactly be hard to get side on to a cube and spam torpedoes , impractical i know , but no doubt someone would try it
just depends on how you define broadside i suppose , but i highly doubt a console that allows that would have a cooldown shorter than a couple of minutes anyway

sorry but I'm afraid your wrong on this, the sovereign layout that was on tribble is not on any ship in the fleet or c-store. The AC is the sovereign class , http://www.stowiki.org/Sovereign_class#Sovereign_class this is the boff layout of the original sovereign class (AC). The new layout for the retrofit/refit was more heavy on the tac side will sacrificing eng and changing the science boff station to universal. I already know what this post is referring to  We have been told for months that we 100% getting on and its on the top of the list but were told it will be out now but it not and alot of speculation has been going around that it will be out in season 7. Mostly like the fleet version will be a retrofit because it will be a endgame VA ship and if we are going be what the devs have defined what are retrofits and refits here, http://sto.perfectworld.com/blog/?p=621601 and the c-store version possible a refit.
The Sovereign / Assault Cruiser needs some love. Yeah, this is coming from a KDF guy.
I find it laughable that the platform of the Sovereign class has been completely overtaken by the Galaxy class, and most shockingly by the ancient Excelsior class in every capacity.
The Sovereign was the development bed of every cutting edge technology the Federation could put together at the time. And with regular upgrades, I still think the Sovereign should stack up very well in capability, except when compared to the newer Odyssey.
It should be better than the Galaxy. It should definitely be better than the Excelsior which is older than the Sovereign class by 2 generations of design. But it should be inferior to the Odyssey. But a Sovereign should be something to be respected even by 2409, where STO currently sits at. And the time of Star Trek "Nemesis" isn't that long ago for STO's era. So the Sovereign should still be a powerhouse. Where the Galaxy and most Federation ships were thought of as "diplomatic" in design of which the Galaxy is famous for, the Sovereign and Defiant classes were designed as warships with bleeding edge technology.
I'm sure there will be a C-store sovereign coming soon, perhaps next in line if the "Science" ship (Vesta) is not approved by then. I remember Capt. Geko said he wanted to get a science ship out next (maybe the Vesta), if not the Sovereign is next. I don't know where the talk about release at Season 7 started. Perhaps it is being confused with the Ambassador which they want to release it tied to a featured story.
As far as I know, the C-store sovereign will be released soon...I recall they said about 1 to 2 months after Season 6 release. I guess it will be later if the Vesta gets released first.
This may explain its absence from the Fleet ship store. They want to release the C-store first before the Fleet version is available.
As per changes to the upcoming C-store refit, as RAJ said, hope they give us a slight boost to tactical without overly sacrificing its ability to tank. The Fleet version we got a glimpse of at Tribble, was very heavily tactical but it came at a heavy price of its tanking abilities.
LtCom Tac (beautiful),
Lt Tac
ENS Eng (poor)
Com ENG
Lt Uni.
This makes it the most tactical Fed Cruiser but the poorest Tier 5 tanker amongst cruisers. The change was too extreme. The change was too heavy-handed in my opinion. We don't need both a LtCom Tac and another Lt Tac. Also to recover some tanking we have to choose between either ENG or Sci for the Lt universal slot.
As RAJ and a bunch of us who are Assault Cruiser flyers, we love the current balance of offensive power and defensive abilities in the current sovereign. If setup properly it can be a force to be reckoned with. I almost always get 1st place in Fleet actions. I can wade into a fleet of enemy ships and wreck havoc. I absolutely love it!
Personally all it really needs is a special power/console to boost its tactical abilities by a bit. Geko mentioned 180 degree Quantum torpedo launchers and possibly a "Riker Manuever" ability.
However for the C-store, I think the devs will give us more that just a special console. There will most definitely be some form of change to the boff layout. They probably will make it good so that people will want to buy it. Many of us are hoping for the following boff layout:
ComEng
LtComENG
LtCom Tac
Lt Sci
This layout sacrifices 1 Ens Tac for 1 LtCom Tac. This layout would be awesome as it gives us a boost to Tactical without sacrificing its tanking abilities. Some have said that having 2 LtComs is overpowered, but precedence has already been set with some carriers such as the Atrox and also the new Tholian Orb Weaver (which is a science ship with 2 LtComs). If these ships can have 2 LtComs, why can't a cruiser get it as well?
Another option is a compromise:
ComENG
Lt Eng
LtCom Tac
Lt Sci
Ens Universal
With this, we get the boost to tactical with a loss to tanking but not as much as the loss in the Fleet variant seen in Tribble. Also importantly we are not forced to choose between a Lt ENG and SCI. We can have both. Also the ENS Universal can be used to add to Tactical (offensive) or defensive (Eng or Sci). This layout is more palatable.
Please Captain Geko...please consider these layouts.
