how is it lazy to pay real money for the gear? I assume he had to work to earn that money so he would have most likely put in more effort in real life to earn those items he bought than you have grinding in game
no matter if you grind it out in game or work irl to pay for it you're putting in "effort" ...
in that case i would make you pay $150 for a full MK XII set (per character)
Then you have worked enough to *earn* it...
Sounds fair to me.
Probably not to you, you just want your instant Shiny Item.
STF Sets are Bragging rights for Hardcore and long-time STF players (when you see one you know he is good at it), not a shiny C-Store visual for Money-Cheaters.
They are HARD to get, and in my opinion STO needs more of that!
Make it 500 EDC per XII Set Item, that would still be OK but be a safe way to earn them and taking the randomness out of it.
(the people who run them a lot and are just unlucky is the only problem the STF loot has)

spoken like someone who has no idea the worth of a dollar...
instant shiny item? lmao
if I buy it with real money I had to spend real time working in real life... so no it's not instant...
to earn it in game you get it for spending your leisure time playing a game and having fun...
hmmmm time spent playing a game or time spent doing real work... which one should be worth more...
no offence but if you think you get bragging rights for sinking tons of time into a game than you have other problems to worry about... no one sees it and goes "Wow that guy is cool he must be awesome!" they see it and think "Wow I wish I had no life and could play videogames that much" ... you don't need to be good to earn them in game you just need to have copious amounts of free time
it is rather hilarious that you called people who spend their time working at a real job in order to buy things lazy but people who spent tons of time playing a videogame for an item not lazy... man I wish I lived in your version of reality where playing videogames wasn't counted as time spent being lazy and having a job was
I'm a lifer, I paid upfront in good faith... At no point did I think I would have to be forking out my money again just to be competitive.
As for STF drops, think you'll find the better ya do the better ya loot at the end.
Example: (ground STF)
Tactical officer built purely for ground combat, kills fast, gets lots of purples as end loot.
Engineering office, can't kill for sh. on the ground, hardly ever gets a purple loot drop.
Pay to win, Pay to be competitive is the way this game is heading, I know it, you know it and I bet the devs knew it well before official launch.
When ppl can spend $1000 on stuff in a C-store and they become way more competitive than me, which stops me (in my opinion) getting my STF MKXII loot drops...
I get vexed.
What a slap in the face of all those ppl that did spend month after month doing nothing but STFs only to have all that hard work dismissed by placing the rewards in the C-Store.
I work, I have kids and a wife (unfortunately, I have a wife!!) I might get to play 2 hours a day and not everyday.
I don't care what anyone says, loot drops need sorting out... If i do a mission I want the reward for doing it, not some silly supposedly random chance to get something.
I've paid for Star Trek based mmo, not to become a member of a virtual shop. I paid my lifetime subscription for a Strek Trek mmo, not to play some virtual gamblimg game.

The reason why it is lazy is because you are supplementing talent, skill, and yes, grind IN GAME with that of talent, skill, and grind OUT of game. You are getting an In game benefit via your out of game skills and trade.
And Frankly, I don't want to have to supplement my command skills with my burger flipping skills....
Also, at least in game we can be honest that it was US that put the effort into grinding for the gear. If we push the STF gear into the Zen Store, there is no telling if someone actually worked hard for that money, or if they just asked daddy for the credit card again. Not that I am downplaying the value of the dollar. I am on a tight budget, and very much know the value of it.
But I also know that In STO, I am equal with everyone. Star Trek Online is unlike in the real world where I am stuck doing an under paid job that is not within my skill set nor within my career interest, trying to grind out my day-to-day expenses. In STO, I am on equal footing with every other captain out there. I have an equal chance to be as great, or as terrible as they are. We have access to the same ships, the same equipment. We can grind for EDC, Energy credits, Dilithium, or whatever we need, at the same rate and amount as the other captains. We all have the same pool of boffs, expertise, and experience points to level up and enhance our captain. We are equal on here! We have the same resources, so it all comes down to knowledge and skill that determines the better captain.
Why would we want to drag even more of the inequality of the real world into this game?
If you want a benefit and succeed in game, you pay for it with blood, sweat, and tears on the bridge of your ship.
If you want a benefit in real life, remember that I don't like pickles on my burgers.

I really don't get how anyone can think that taking the rewards for the highest level PvE content in the game and making them purchasable without having to touch the missions is a good idea. If they made STF sets purchasable with Zen, they'd have to add something else as a reward for doing the STFs. And not Fleet Marks, cos we have enough sources of those to choose from (Althougbh I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being part of the Fleet Event).
I know getting your gear is grindy, I'm closing in on the 300 STF mark across all my characters. But look around you. Simple fact is this whole game is a grind. You play short, 15 minute missions ad infinitum for what you want. It's not a state of affairs I particularly like, I'd much rather play longer, more complex missions less often, and I said as much in the Tribble forums when Starbases dropped, but clearly the development team disagree. But to take the rewards for the grind and make them available for a few dollars will just kill the incentive to play the game, and thoroughly annoy the existing players who did grind. What are going to do with your 20 dollar Mk X / XI / XII MACO set if the STF player base drops to about a quarter of what it is now? Bear in mind the STF numbers have already taken a hit because of the Starbase missions.
If you do not want to grind for stuff, then the solution is to poke the developers to make the game less grindy, and hope that they might listen. They probably won't though. Offering to buy the gear for money is just lazy and removes the incentive to play the missions. You think people burn out on STFs now? They'd stop bothering twice as quickly if they could just buy the stuff they want straight off the bat for a few dollars.
Basically getting the sets are just based on luck. I have gotten lucky with the drops but i feel the odds of getting a rare or prototype item or salvage as an item drop should increase after every Borg STF we play and after say 50 missions there should be a guarnteed rare or protype item drop. So lets say you need a prototype shield tech and you have gone 50 missions without recieving an item drop on your 51st mission you woul recive that item drop if you played the correct mission. And once you get one your odds of recieving one will drop back down.

Chain of command
Starfleet officers (Va - ensign)
Macos
thats right guys if you are a maco even if your rank is "lord high admiral of the universe" you still take orders from the Ensign by the door
