The "What's Cryptic's Super Secret Happy Joy Joy Fun Time PVP Revamp"

Let's play a game, because it's 90 degrees outside and over the last three months, 2 cows, 8 sheep, and 17 goats died due to chat / forum post spam.

What is Cryptic's Super Genius plan for PvP? Feel free to speculate, because we're mourning the cows, sheep, and 17 goats.

A. They've got a super secret elite squad of programmers who only plays competitive multiplayer games in their off time. They're so super serious about PvP that they actually transform STO into "OMG THAT IS THE STAR TREK GAME WE'VE ALL BEEN WAITING FOR!" -Taken from Dstahl's new book, Audacity of Borg

B. "New PvP map!" (TM)

C. It's change we could believe in, because they'll add new shinies to the game which can only be grinded for in PvP. Strangely enough, the shinies are more annoying than our shinies now. The PvE Havoc Squad comes in the forums and complains repeatedly until Cryptic relents by having the stuff only acquired through PvE.

Example of new shinies found in this link

D. "Your call is very important to us. So important, that PvP changes are pushed back because we wanted to test things out more." "Also, while you're holding, please check out the Zen Store"

E. Gene Roddenberry comes back and haunts the Cryptic staff, thus sending all personnel to mental institutions and closing down STO.

F. Cryptic hires Jorf

G. Perfectworld tries out PvP and cuts their loses.
"No, there is no real problem with P2W in STO. Obviously, if you fight against someone with an equal level of skill in the game, better equipment will give you an edge. But usually, it is the skill level that determines the outcome, not the P2W." -Logimo

    I am picking option G.

With a possibiilty for SubChoice A: being the parent example.

With Choice B as an option: PWE, takes one look at Stahl and Gecko and goes "you guys said you were working on things here.. We can't take this to asian markets and last more than a week"

Stahl or Gecko possibly both after they give each other ATM "Look at all the uniform choices! It's great for roleplaying! Who cares about pvp anyway? The silly azns?"

PWE then fires them and goes shopping for actually talented devs and dev leads.

fleet marks for pvp? like at least 3 per match maybe? i dont think its to much to ask, and is a very fleet activity. any bone you could throw would make us think that your not trying to figure out a way to gracefully remove pvp at this point. what other conclusion are we supposed to come to really?

oh, and its D. something will always take priority during official business hours, some one would have to use their spare time before something meaningful for pvp happens. if this is not the case i would love to hear about it, so far all we know thats being worked on at this point is supporting the new fleet system, redyeing new c store ships, and pve story content for season 7.

    Only 90?

What is Cryptic's Super Genius plan for PvP?

They perfect Kirkism for the non-interested PvE'er who has avoided PvP due to a lack of being able to buy bad assery to dominate those they dislike as PvP'ers.
PvP participation spikes as Cryptic makes record Cstore sales and Zen prices skyrocket in the rush for those who can't take the time to learn PvP can now play without having to bother. A new Kirk fight soundtrack goes up for sale in leui of the record setting number of players now PvPing. The ques pop like firecrackers. EmoJoe has a cardiac moment due to Target Overload in the FvK ques. Klingons ask for a Changism package. The CHang bundle pack arrives but is bugged for PvP.
A month later sales plummet as the Kirkers no longer enjoy being kirked by thier fellow kirks and PvP returns to wasteland. The KDF is blaimed for the lack of participation and thier number is reduced to 6% out of spite.
PWE in a daring night time HALO raid re-orders the Dev team at Cryptic under nefariuos circumstances. Spin control keeps it out of the papers and media.
The Survivng Devs once again seek the help of the PvP crowd to make it better.
Something Pops up that delays the changes and we continue to get bugs.

    Super Secret Option Q:

1 entire sector of space becomes devoted to PvP. The planets and nebulae all contain different PvP scenarios. The sector is semi-open PvP, you can challenge and accept challenges (1v1 even!) from pre-mades, or you can queue for the scenarios from outside the sector.

FvK win/loss stats from challenges and scenarios will be tracked and checked every 12 hours. Total wins from each scenario will will count as 1 point, for example challenge wins, CnH wins, 5v5 wins, etc, will all give 1 War Point.

When the 12 hour check is made and the War Points totaled the losing faction will be forced to use the other side's UI.

New scenarios will include PvPvE, such as convoy escorts with one faction defending and one attacking. New scenarios will include 1v1, 3v3, and 10v10, and Retrofit PvP.

Retrofit PvP queues will be added. For example, players will enter the tier 3 queue while piloting a tier 3 ship (no funny business, you Vault hackers!). Captains will be scaled accordingly. This way a lvl 50 character can be used to PvP with a lvl 30 ship, giving new PvPers a chance to learn to PvP without jumping in at a max-level ship and being overwhelmed by options. Other players might also enjoy the slower pace of lower tier combat and the chance to fly their favorite lower tier ships which cannot compete at max level. Each Retrofit PvP tier will give 1 War Point.

The sector will contain 1 starbase and 1 planetary base which will provide faction-wide buffs based on which faction is maintaining control. These buffs will stack the longer they are held. Ferengi merchants will frequent these bases, providing services not available anywhere else such as additional dilithium refinement per day and Lobi gambling facilities.

That they'll make a huge song and dance about releasing a new PvP map that they are super excited about and have spent loads of time working on. The map will end up been the prison facility from 2400 that we were promised ages ago, but most people will of forgotten this when its released and will praise Cryptic for the amazing new map and remind the PvP community just how happy they should be for the map. Any subsequent complaints from PvPers saying Cryptic don't care about PvP will be met with people saying "but you just got a new map!"

Oh yeah, they'll probably have a timegated event on the map where you can earn fleet marks as well, to make people prasie them more for allowing PvPers to earn fleet marks though PvP.

I'm neither a Cryptic fan or a Cryptic hater but I suspect there will be no revamp.

Or update, or new map or new anything.

I'm sure cryptic wants to do something with it, but as soon as it starts needing any time put into it, they'll look at all their other work they've got to do and put PvP to the side. I was extremely naive to get excited about season 6, back when they said it was going to have a PvP revamp. I naively told my fellow PvPers that "oh no, they'll really do something with PvP this time", so I feel like a bit of a mug because of that. Perhaps season 7.... No, no, best not to even have a glimmer of getting my hopes up.

They may have the best intentions (I'll just assume they really don't realise how uber the bug is), but at the end of the day PvP just isn't high on their list of priorities.

If we're really really lucky, we may get fleet marks as a reward. I doubt it though, which is a shame since it'd make the queues much more lively. Probably fill the queues with AFKers though...

All of this is really strange to be honest, looking at all those lockbox ship owners and P2W console owners in PvP, we must make them quite a bundle (especially if we want to keep up with the latest ship).

P.S. I know some PvPers can be aggressively negative, sometimes downright unpleasant, towards Cryptic devs and I'm utterly against that. However while their manners could use some improving, they aren't getting angry and worked up about nothing. Some of us have been PvPing since the beginning and over that time we've lost one map, had nothing new and had to deal with imbalances, which have gotten worse and worse and PvP matches that get more and more insane.

    It's all bull****.

I used to look at other PVPers who openly say "Oh yeah, i'm going to TOR, or MechWarrior" etc and look down on them for loosing faith.

These days I'm more then likely to ask "Can I come with you? Are those games' dev's not MONEY-GRABBING TRIBBLE? Will they be nice to me and pay PVP the time and money it deserves to flourish? Can you wait 10min so I can pack my case and meet you outside...?

A new crafting system that allows you to combine 2 consoles into 1.

    AMS/Leech FTW!

Of course, it will take a rare material only available through zen...

Well, I'm going to try MWO. They only have PVP, so hell they'd better develop it lol.

The plan is to get suckers to keep buying new junk. They'll toss a bone here and there in terms of gameplay tweaks, but more p2w is the order of the day.

Well the breakdown occurs in the FvF ques as everyone want to be THE Kirk, even over others desire to be The Kirk in PvP. a sudden realization that that Kirkism can not cover all players equally in PvP and give that Kirk experience properly leads to PvP once again dying off to just those that enjoy it in any game.

I never really considerd the KDF would be a true factor in my theory.
