A lot of us like playing our KDF characters, but don't really dig the whole Klingon glory thing. Some of us like to do the Nausicaan pirate/raider thing, many like to play our Orion pirate/spy/operative characters, some prefer to play Gorn fleet captains, and I imagine many like playing as Ferasan captains now.
Given the variety of the ships available, it seems very cookie-cutter-ish to have 'I.K.S.' on every Gorn, Orion, and Nausicaan ship out there. The Gorn and Nausicaan lost their war against the Klingons when they were mobbed en-masse, but I seriously doubt either group would honestly bend their knee toward the Chancellor. And the Orions? Their loyalty to the Klingon cause is questionable, at best.
So, how about allowing us a little more variation and individuality, in a world full of red/orange? Being able to choose the ship name prefix would work exactly like the Federation version, with the drop-down box that enables 'NCC' or 'NX', simply with different choices available.
Also, the ability to choose the logo we want for our ships would be awesome; I don't want Klingon symbols on my ship, and I get the feeling many of the Orion fans out there aren't exactly fond of the idea, either.
The tech/coding is already there and would be virtually copy/paste, and there's no art or hard-core research to be done, so...how about it, Cryptic? If we can't have our individual factions, may we represent the different arms of the Klingon Empire's defense forces?
For motivation, I'd gladly pay 200 zen for each prefix or ship logo I wanted; that's a number one can grind up relatively easily in-game with about a week's worth of Dilithium refining, but most would simply pay a few bucks to unlock.
If I'm not mistaken.. the Klingon ship prefix was "I.K.C." anyways no?
No, it's IKS.
And that is a bad idea, Gorn, Nausicaans, Orions and Letheans are vassals of the Klingon Empire, so they follow the same banner. I think Ferasans are protectorate members or something so they would too.
Klingons demand loyalty and if other races have none they will die like dishonourable targs
However we have been asking for KDF content for months and nothing so don't hold your breath a FED's have also asked for option I.S.S so they can have mirror universe ships and this has fallen on deaf ears so don't hold ur breath

It would be nice to change the prefix.... I wish they'd let us have a generic one that a trader or something would have, I don't want to be affiliated with the military of the Klingons or the Federation, just their allies.
Cloaking generators break down at first sign of language.
It doesn't make any less than seeing dozens of NX-prefix Starfleet ships flying around all day. It's particularly amusing to see someone flying around in a Miranda with an NX prefix, lol.
But, yeah...having a simple S.S. prefix would be cool too, like the S.S. Azura, etc.
Well, it's certainly a problem that we don't know whether there is a name for "the Klingons and their allies" as a whole, like "Greater Klingon Alliance".
In that case we could request as an alternative to "Imperial Klingon Ship" something like "Klingon Alliance Ship", or (half-jokingly) "Greater Alliance Ship" (GAS)
Sure, they're all in the same faction...but how often do you see Gorn, Orion, Nausicaan, and Klingon NPC's attacking in the same group?
They operate separately from one another. Go to this system, deal with the Orion raiding group there. Go to that system, deal with that Gorn fleet. Go here, deal with the Klingons. Go there, deal with the Nausicaan raiders.
See what I mean? They're all part of the same faction, but they're not exactly practicing a combined-arms philosophy with their various units. Thus, it makes sense to me that their ships would maintain their previous registry information, regardless of the fact that they're performing their duties within the Klingon Defense Force.
Not the closest comparison, but American drivers register their cars with the state, and the car wears a state-issued, state-type tag, not a "USA" tag...yet they're still subject to any applicable federal laws while driving, even in their own state.
I don't understand the opposition to it; this would hardly consume any dev time whatsoever, would help them make money, and would give players the OPTION of choosing it (or not choosing it). This certainly seems less intrusive to other players than all the gaudy, ridiculous, Borgified ships you see flying around everywhere; those things are an eyesore...this is just a different set of three letters that would allow players to show their support for their particular sub-faction.

This only holds true if you play as a fed. As a KDF player, regardless of race, you are considerd to be functioning under the banner of the KDF and that is why as a player your vessel has the IKS prefix.
I understand what you're saying, Roach; I have two max-level KDF characters, and a third at Commander (got my first ground up before they even had KDF missions...yay for me, and my lack of sanity! lol). I guess this is more of a customization thing, and a way for the players to represent their sub-faction the way they wish.
I just don't see why it shouldn't be added; it wouldn't hurt anything (that I can tell), it would give us more options, and it would be a lot less intrusive to players who don't like it than, say, some of the silly-looking ship gear everyone runs.
Well you say that changeing the prefix I.K.S. is akin to feds being able to change NCC to NX in which its not. It would be different if they could infact change U.S.S. to lets say I.S.S. or even S.S. I dont see people even really against the idea they just dont see it as happening I have to agree since they will try and say CBS wont let it happen cause we want the players to be KDF/ Fed not the other little guys. Almost got on a rant there sorry as one of the ones that wanted to see the feds/kdf be able to put I.S.S. on there ship I support it to a point.

I'm not saying it's just like that; I'm saying the tech is already there for it (a drop-down menu in the ship re-naming window), and that it would be a rather easy thing for Cryptic to implement, thereby taking very little dev time.

Because the Gorn, Orions and Nausicians are not sub factions of the Empire.
They are members of the Empire, in STO anyways, in a similiar fashion to the Andorians, Vulcans and the myriad of other races that are a part of the UFP.
I'm not against the idea. I just do not see the need.
Now my mind may change on that point if the Devs ever create lower level missions explaining and demostrating the Gorn and Orions place within the Empire.
