I probably liked the ships as my original attraction. The Vor'cha was a really great looking ship, the Negh'var was like a Vor'cha on steroids. even the K't'inga/d7 had its charm. ships and space battles always grabbed my attention.
The race itself from the shows was interesting to me as while they were a warrior culture that placed honour above everything, yet outside of Worf, Kurn, Martok etc there was not a lot of real honour going on. it had become this twisted sense of honour which meant only wining or being killed trying to win was expected. The finer points, the true honour of being noble, seemed to be lost. I found that interesting as the main heroes tried to uphold that dying breed of Klingons in the mould of warriors like Kang, Kor and Koloth while the empire slipped into treachery at the hands of the Duras family and later Gowron.
When it came to the game, I liked the freedom the faction gives, especially when it comes to making foundy missions. The in fighting between the different factions (the houses, the Gorn, the Orions etc) gives much more story potential than the 'mass love in' the Starfleet is. the chance to get the klingons back to what they were meant to be, warriors and conquers fighting for a noble cause, and trying to uphold a better sense of honour rather than just to cause trouble for their own gains.
The new ships have all looked great and I've especially enjoyed the Orions and Nausicaan ships and the Ferasan and Gorn characters looks really good.
I think that there is a lot of potential to tell stories and have adventures set around the different races of the KDF and how they react to their Klingon allies/masters. It would be also great to see the Klingons be ruthless warriors, with a real sense of honour and not just be the standard bad guys.
More bushi less pirate. Well I take that back, kinda. More pirate for Orions more duty and honor for the KDF, (less glory).
I'm not asking that they sugar coat the KDF, but better motivation than simple conquest would help the image considerably.
Like putting gloves on a bare knuckle brawler. Before the gloves they have to be more careful how hard they hit, (for example the head), lest they break a knuckle. The gloves may pad the blow and the audience sees it as kinder gentler but the reality is with less chance of breaking a knuckle the striker can hit much harder. Protecting and supporting an ally allows for a similar effect.
Let us support our allies and potential allies as the KDF did even as early as TOS, (even though in that episode the support was thinly veiled conquest). This can be done in both mission, (and still have some good pewpew), and in DOFF assignments.
Let us explore the odd, but uniquely Klingon, chivalry displayed in House of Quark.
Let us act against those who threaten the Empire from within in their myopic quest for glory.
Why can't we look to other warrior societies and use traditions like counting coup to keep the bloodshed of inter house rivalry to a minimum. This would allow the intrigue of inter-house feuds to continue but allow the KDF to present a united front to any who would try to take advantage of a perceived schism. Also it would keep Feddies from thinking that all Klingons do is kill each other when there is none else to kill.
I would like to see more missions that use the Western concept of good soldiers knowing when to disobey a bad order, and the Eastern notion of good soldiers knowing when to sacrifice woven into the subplots so that the Empire can show warriors who offer the best of both worlds in a good soldier.
There should be a balance between kickass and space troll that should be able to be struck. Our missions should reflect this. Glory is nothing without honor. Honor is empty with out duty. Duty is only an insatiable hunger when there is nothing to serve.
Edited to add: Weave these motivations into a light story for PvP. I know it can be done and it would add a little to the PvP experience. Maybe make the story static and tie it to the rank system so that the story advances as you level up. You could also go the extra mile by providing three such PvP stories one for FvF, another for KvK and most important one for FvK.
Oh and UI color palate options for those who would like to play KDF but can't get past the red UI. I know there are a range of color options that the Okuda's would find acceptable as long as they are not the traditional LCARS.
If you are a pickle in a pickle jar you know every pickle's different, sort of, but really they're all just pickles...
What exactly about it captures your imagination? Is it the ships? The Language? The culture and history?
Yes. The ships appeal to me in design. The Langauge causes my sense to stir and the culture and history of the Empire draws my attention always.
For all thier gruffness and warrior atttitude and I never surprised by thier kindness and loyalty to each other anf those they respect.
I am amazed at the detail of thier arts and even sciences. Thier Never surrender atttitude in the face of adversity is to relished.
STO does not even break the surface of what the Klingons are like, capable of, or to be admired as a people.
The image of Space Ork does not become us and is a unfairness if the Devs or PWE think we should play that role.
I would really like to hear what you would want from the KDF.
Simply more content that firmly immerses us into the story of STO. One that give us meaning beyond Monster Play and allows the player to experience the wonder and joy of being a KDF member.
If you had a private meeting with all the devs there, and the fate of the faction was in your hands, what would you say?

What exactly about it captures your imagination? Is it the ships? The Language? The culture and history?
It was always the ships. My first exposure to Star Trek was reruns of TOS. Culturally there wasn't much in the way of development (the klingons seemed to be more an antithesis of the ideals held by the Federation and didn't possess an identity beyond being a polar opposite derivative). The only hint I recall there was something more was the relationship between Kang and his wife that showed there was a possibilty of something more than a black hat.
The movies and TNG added some flesh to the bones. There was also a two book set for the Star Trek PnP RPG that FASA (the Battletech guys) put out. If I remember the game was a bunch of boring number-crunching but the Klingon sourcebook was the first opportuinity I had to read material dedicated to Klingons.
I like the notion of honour as a cultural ideal. I've found it strange Fed players scoff at klingons who attack from cloak. In some cases I think honour is a currency like freedom and democracy. Ideals are malleable and can be used by people who aren't particularly inclined to be the same. The more modern notion of Klingons as warriors living by code rather than space vikings/barbarians is more interesting and certainly a better model for a culture that can survive it's own history.
I would really like to hear what you would want from the KDF.
A more balanced development schedule for the good of the game as a whole. Attention to details that would make the faction more attractive to a larger audience; Grow the 12-16%. I don't see these numbers as a a something worth broadcasting. It's something as a entrepreneur I'd be ashamed to admit.
If you had a private meeting with all the devs there, and the fate of the faction I'd was in your hands, what would you say?
I'd try to commuinicate an investment in the Klingon faction as an investment into the game as a whole. I don't know who said it but in order to have great heroes you need great villains. I firmly believe that parity between the factions would reinvigorate the game as a whole. Looking at season six I think the onus will fall more on the commuinity to get the most from the game.
The fleet system is a sandbox activity. People like new toys and the bases will allow people to gather gidgets then wait to get them. I wonder how many attacks on starbases it will take before it ceases to be novel and becomes another grind/necessary evil. Engaging the commuinity in interfleet rivalries/cooperation and giving them a living, breathing organic game where actions make a difference would be amazing. With the balance in it's current state I don't think it would work very well presently.
What exactly about it captures your imagination? Is it the ships? The Language? The culture and history?
The culture and feel of the Empire, a group of warriors living by a sense of honour and who in their eyes do the right thing. Aren't as corrupt as the Federation, like declaring wars as illegal which have nothing to do with them. The Empire is shown as honourable but not to a bias point of view like the Federation, we have people in our past who have acted dishonourably, done the wrong thing, done things for greed, but it's not ignored like the Federation such as hiding Section 31 etc.

In the beginning it was only the ships (er, ship) Then with the films and TNG it became much more- language, lore, customs, history, clothing. Everything about them became interesting, they way did things, the reasons why, their relationships with others, with themselves, their ancestors, their gods, everything.
For this game tho I cannot see anything even close to the immersion I felt in 'Klingon Academy', but would hope for more faction specific content, not re-branded fed content but actual faction specific content.

Hi Roach old friend. So glad that one of the loyalist KDF supporters has contributed here!
I would like to propose a question to the devs:
Will there every be a civil war introduced into the KDF, perhaps between those in favour of ending the war with the Federation, and those for it? The Klingon Empire is rich in storylines along this vein.
Heck, I think they should be choices availible for toon creation for the KDF faction.

Leadership is the most overpowered trait for a free species, it's a joke and I feel it should be half of what it is a best. I do think a new KDF species or even the Klingon KDF species should have the equal trait, appropriately renamed of course to equal things up a bit.

If you or any fan of the Empire has questions you would liked asked, please send them to hosts@gatesofstovokor.com or post them here.
I have a number of questions, popular ones are:
1. Will season 7 feature a full 40+ mission Klingon campaign written from the Klingon perspective and allow Klingon players to start straight off the bat at level 1? If so will we finally get rid of the Federation perspective Featured Episodes from the Klingon line-up?
2. Will the KDF get more species, perhaps the Sona? Also will Aliens and Joined Trill on the KDF side get to use other species uniforms like the Orion and Nausicaan sets?
3. Will we finally get more uniforms, free and c-store to bring us up with the Federation and will the current graphic errors on all KDF uniforms be fixed?
Support the Game by Supporting the KDF, equality and uniqueness for all factions!

Dev,
Will you ever allow KDF players to have a Support Ship without having to pay ZEN or Fleet Credits? There are many of us who play Gorn or Orion, and yet we have to use Klingon Ships that were not meant to be used as Science vessels.
Kor was the character who got me interested in the Klingon species in the first place. He was all shades of gray. A ruthless mild mannered leader.
But the DS9 episode Soldiers of the Empire is, to me, the perfect example of "real" Klingons. They keep losing, have technically no honour, yet they don't try commit suicide. They keep fighting, hoping to win back their honour or die trying. They thing they are cursed yet they want to fight.
And I like the 2 versions of Qoy qeylls puqloD that can be heard in the episode: the first when Worf starts singing it at the start of the mission with not much enthusiasm and the second at the end when Martok orders them to attack with joy and anticipation of the battle to come.
I do love the ships but it always was the culture that attracted me.
And yes, new uniforms. At least give us a real standard uniform. The shoulder pads on the current one are way too large.
Will you ever allow KDF players to have a Support Ship without having to pay ZEN or Fleet Credits? There are many of us who play Gorn or Orion, and yet we have to use Klingon Ships that were not meant to be used as Science vessels.
My Apoligies. The Dev in question is not associated with Ships.
What captures my imagination? Okay, try this...
Close your eyes and imagine a scene from a film or TV episode with a BoP turning tight to face an opponent and we cut to the bridge of the BoP. What MUSIC is playing in your head right now? All trumpets, horns and other brass with a soupcon of drum, right?
That music evokes the spirits and makes the hairs on my neck stand on end in anticipation of what is coming.
The STO Klingons have a real issue with honour in game as it very much seems to be all about the kill stats. Where are the intelligence missions aboard enemy ships (Drumhead:TNG) or even our own side (Sons of Mogh:DS9)? Who is the Judge in First City? Is it actually Martok in disguise (not really killed in honourable combat after all)? What happened to the Cardassian territories taken during the Dominion War? Could the Klingons have to retake an outpost or two and earn a (Unique?) cardassian rifle or other such goodie?
Damn, all this thinking is making me realise I need to start writing some stuff down...
Oh and I would love to see a new character class instead of the three we have right now. Intelligence! Not science, engineering or tactical because an intelligence agent could come from all three or none at all. Introduce a new class called the intelligence officer (Not section 31 for feds) and the skills could be stealth in ground combat (introduce a couple of armours and make the sniper rifle REALLY shine) and give them a space ability called "Match Shield Harmonics" which allows all weapons to penetrate one ship's shields FULLY for a few seconds (after all, an intelligence officer would know the opponent a bit better, wouldn't they?). Long cooldown, obviously Make it a pay to play class (like Artificer or Favoured Soul in DDO) and you don;t need new ships for a while as people play with a slightly new skill build. more time for KDF missions then:D

God no, I hate brass and trumpets are probably the most grating instruments ever. I'd say much more percussion, almost tribal with fast string accompaniment.
I was thinking more of the "theme" used for Klingons...
bubuh bubuh bubuh bubu bububu bububuh
damn, now have to find a link on youtube somewhere........ a found it, and in its full motion picture glory too!
What get my imagination. Is the ship specially a D7 or K't'inga. And that Klingon theme song from the Motion Picture. The ship is rugged in looks and ready for combat. With no fancy designs or features. Just plain warship. Next is the as a person. How they have a sense of honor and warrior type culture. Even they still use blades to do battle with. Where others grew away from that and rather just fire a gun.
What I would like to see with KDF. More options on clothes. From the head down. More hair styles and so on. Similar like the Feds.

If they add intelligence I would hope they would also add counter intelligence. Elim Garak seemed to have more depth when juxtaposed with a detective like character similar to Odo.
If you are a pickle in a pickle jar you know every pickle's different, sort of, but really they're all just pickles...
I havent really played it long enough to have come up with any criticism or things that could be added, But one of the main things I love about playing KDF is taking on a bunch of enemies with a Bat'leth although the Bat'leth's seem to be really too big (My bat'leth is like the same height as my character, lol).

Hey, still familiar faces around At least I suspect you are Roach
I fully agree with this. And, unluckily, I have to say I don't expect ANYTHING from STO in the future. Not for Klingons, not for the Federation, not even anything Star Trek related at all. That's just the way it is, always was and always will be...

Klingon ships look like military vessels, and imperial. I like that they have fireplaces on their ships. They probably eat meat, I like that, suits a warlike culture. (although I am vegan in real life) So basicly klingon means the raw untamed nature in us, and its liberating and refreshing to live that once in a while.

I would love for the Klingon faction to have more costume selections, perhaps ones that you can purchase from the cstore. Another ship here and there would be lovely as well. I know Klingons aren't as popular as Federation so we get less stuff, but having some more costume selections would be awesome....pretty please with a cherry tribble on top.

Long cooldown, obviously

God no, I hate brass and trumpets are probably the most grating instruments ever. I'd say much more percussion, almost tribal with fast string accompaniment.

What I would like to see with KDF. More options on clothes. From the head down. More hair styles and so on. Similar like the Feds.

Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
If they add intelligence I would hope they would also add counter intelligence. Elim Garak seemed to have more depth when juxtaposed with a detective like character similar to Odo.
Hey, still familiar faces around
I fully agree with this. And, unluckily, I have to say I don't expect ANYTHING from STO in the future. Not for Klingons, not for the Federation, not even anything Star Trek related at all. That's just the way it is, always was and always will be...
