So I decided to start my KDF character, been playing it for 5 or 6 days now and just finished the last Undine mission. I have to say, aside from the few tedious missions and the fact that STO doesn't have strong replay value it is very fun. The assignments are a lot more creative, the uniforms make more sense, the playable species are more unique and when you get a promotion it's so much more epic.

If the people making it actually cared about the story they could really make the KDF faction stand out, if there wasn't so much copy and paste it could probably be better than the Fed side. Needs more to do though as it's sometimes quite slow levelling up.

better cruisers, birds of prey, interesting kdf missions... the problem is the lack of development.

given the option, if everything were equal, I wouldn't have a Starfleet character. unfortunately, all that there is is what we have. a partial faction, dependent on Starfleet for all that it is.

there is no mystery about why so few play kdf. it is about what we lack, and what the developers have opted not to do.

yes, they might opt to give you a Romulan empire like this empire, but why would they? what would you have to look forward to, in the slow trickle of support that you have to beg for?

it is a shame, really. all the potential, and what we have in comparison.

I appreciated the streamlinedness of the KDF FE's. The Fed side was so horribly drawn out that I hated a lot of the characters they introduced. The only good part about the Fed/KDF war was K'valk.

If the story for 20-50 were unique, Alpha quality FEs, it had the opportunity to change a Klingon player into a Klingon fan and a Klingon fan into a KDF die-hard.

As it stands now you're either already a KDF 4 life player, or just a Fed player who hopped on to try it out.

But yeah, there will never be a Klingon/Romulan/Whatever non-Fed Star Trek tv series so it is a lost opportunity to finally have a story of their own play out that isn't 1 or 2 episodes in a while.

So currently I'd rather not see a Romulan empire if its just a couple ships and skins. What's to get immersed in? Just seeing the original Fed missions in a Romulan avatar? Pass.

I think I may have become a KDF convert. Qo'noS is much nicer than the space umbrella.

I'd love a Romulan faction but it'd have to be unique from the ground up as the copy and paste would make no sense, there'd be so much potential in that.

My biggest issue with the KDF is also my biggest issue with STO as a whole. Every time you make a new character you have to do exactly the same content in exactly the same order every single time. There is simply not enough to do. You cannot opt to do one mission series instead of another if you chose to. If you want to do the DS9 missions you need to do every set up till then. It's tedious and monotonous.

I would like to be able to have any light colour choice than red for both my ship interior and the interface.

I would like to be able to use the fed miniskirts on at least my Orion characters, and just more costume choices in general. This applies also to ships.

Otherwise, I find the Klingon side much more intriguing than Fed side. It's more gritty and... real than the rainbows and unicorns la-la land of the Feds.

The KDF missions are far better than the Fed missions. The ships are way cooler. If they would allow me to change the red UI, I would probably never go to the Fed side.

I love the Fek'lrhi missions, even if they're still a tad buggy (especially the lava caves on Boreth, where my Boffs get stuck, etc). The storyline is great. Wish KDF had more stuff like that, instead of sloppy cross-faction missions imported from the Federation.

The red does get annoying. I haven't done much KDF wise, but I imagine if I was doing one of those really annoying missions, mixed with the red, I'd be very likely to throw something across the room all Hulk-like.

One thing which is considered a downer by most players is actually something which makes the KDF better in my eyes: The lack of "customization". The KDF has a greater sense of uniformity to them than the Fed side has and in a Star Trek game this is something I really like.

The downside is, that the KDF faction is basically just a copy & paste of the FED faction which at some point stopped copying content. It begins with the KDF basic set-up: Not one big mix up of species crowding qo'nos but seperate species with seperate worlds would really improve the feel. The Klingon Empire should be an independent faction, having allies and mercenaries instead of being a "red federation". On the other side, the ugly mix of outlandish "uniforms" on the fed side could vbe toned down if FED wouldn't necessesarily mean "Starfleet" but just "Federation" - and let players choose wether they want to be starfleet, planetary force or civilian. KDF players could choose wether they want to be a Klingon, Gorn, Orion (meh) or whatever. They all should have independent content but also shared zones of course.

That would make the game so much more believable, fun and awesome. It would also even out some of the biggest annoyances.

    But meh... *points at signature*
