Why do I need 5 people to create a fleet? Why can't I create the fleet first, and then invite people into it, if I even care to have other people in it?
With the addition of fleet starbases coming soon,. I will need to be in a fleet to even see that content, and I don't care to be in a fleet with someone else running things. One, I don't like other people telling me what to do and Two, I want to run the starbase myself, as this way I will enjoy the new content more.
I have been trying for hours in ESD to get 4 people to help me create a fleet, and not only do I get rudeness, these ******* refuse to help me unless I pay them money! Why in the hell would anyone pay money to create a fleet? It seems you either have to be spectacularly rich and inclined to bribe people, or you have to be a charismatic Mr. Popularity type to get a fleet started!
Its a stupid rule and should be removed. Please fix this mess!
*EDIT: How about a fleet creation token on the C-Store? If I have to pay someone to start a fleet, it might as well be Cryptic. I'm not bribing another player. They can all go TRIBBLE themselves for all I care.

FLEET means MORE then ONE person. You SHOULD not be running a Fleet if you just have ONE person. All you are doing is Exploiting the Fleet System that the rest of us who actually Care to play Star Trek. The simple Factor many exploit the fleet system just to have the Extra Bank slots alone so they do not have to drop Dil/Zen on opening expanded areas for there banks alone is infuriating. You are playing a Game, Star Trek alone, a Series that does not have a I will do this on my own without help attitude in it. The Series has always been a Social atmosphere Even during War. If you wish to Solo a Game, Go get another One. I do not need a Plebe doing what my fleet Can do. A Single Player should NOT have the Same options as a larger Group of people. The Missions and the Assets Alone to get for the starbase are designed for a minimum of 5 people.
Cryptic Change Nothing. If anything Put a requirement on fleets that they maintain a actual Fleet to be considered One. I know to many who pay to have a single player fleet assembled and then Kick them out in the end Just so they have Extra bank space.

I really don't care what you think a guild is or is not. What I care about is playing the game, enjoying the content, and having fun. I can't do that in a group of people that tell me what to, how to play, and in which I exercise no control.
I want to build a starbase. This isn't a crime - its content that everyone should have access to, and for right now I do not, and will not until I have created a fleet.
Maybe he's the last surviving member of his fleet?
Why should any other player have to play THEIR game YOUR way?
Does his suggestion change how you play your game? Does it really impact you or your fleet in any negative manner or aspect?
A positive aspect of him playing his solo fleet is that it will continue to bring in funding to help support the game that you both are playing.
The beauty of an MMO is that you have the opportunity and choice of socializing or interacting with other players. You can exercise that choice and be just another single digit in a massive 500 player fleet, or you can be the only member of a 1-player fleet.
I still don't understand the concept of someone playing an MMO to simply play by themselves. Honestly, there are fleets popping up for this very reason, though: people who want to avoid politics and obtain fleet items. They're generally pretty small, around 20+ people, but I think that's really what you'd want. Otherwise, it'll take forever for you to get anything of value from a star base.
If it even took me that long (and I seriously doubt it would) I would be willing to do it, just for the sense of accomplishment.
Why deny people the chance to play the game the way they want?
Well minimum time for finishing the base is 6-7 months because its hard-capped by the length of the projects. But I don't see a single player getting near that hard-cap.
Have you seen the costs from Tribble? Commodities and even Data Samples are things you can get easily and may have a lot of in reserve if you're a long-term player, they aren't a problem. Dilithium and specific rarity and career DOffs are another matter. I know for a fact I'm going to hit a brick wall on those very quickly, myself. I honestly think, unless you've got about 20 characters and a lot of time on your hands, progress will be slow.
But the only reason the restriction is there is because the fleet can be used as bank space, and bank space is something Cryptic sell. They could get around it with a ZStore token, and as bemusing as I used to find "Need 3 people for a fleet, they can leave when its formed" requests, one and two person fleets are now effectively not going to be much use if people want all the Starbase toys, and "proper" fleets will be sought for the rewards.
So to hell with it. Give the man what he wants Cryptic.
Don't be surprised that this 5-player requirement is dropped. In several posts the Devs have already suggested that you could be in a 1 man fleet, and that it's not a problem, but working towards a Starbase will be slow with reduced numbers. It's not "Exploiting the Fleet System" The previous poster said.
ESD can be a hell hole, other times it's the best place to go for help.
I have noticed more people asking for fleet invites than asking for help creating a fleet though.
I've been trying to get my FED fleet created again for the last couple of months; any suggestions as to what time of day is best? Most of the few people on my friends list don't log in anymore, but some new friends are up for joining my fleet once I have it running, just not quite enough qualifying accounts.

ROFL 3pts
1) Steer clear of Ego Fleets.
I've never been in a Fleet where I was "Told what to Do" and if I ever was the Leave button is under the Roster Tab in the Fleet Menu.
2) The Restriction is there for a reason.
Get over it or get Friendly and Socialize some.
3) As for the "I wanna make MY StarBase ALONE." LOL
Good Luck with that, the 1-year estimate is pretty accurate from what I've seen on Tribble. That is only based on Required Mats n Time that are required to even build anything with a StarBase.
As many have pointed out, there are casual fleets out there for all types of players.
Even as a power player, I think it's unlikely you'd be able to max out a starbase within a year. It's 6-7 months if you have all the resources needed and you're running projects constantly (this would take, at a minimum, thousands of duty officers and many millions of dilithium and energy credits, and probably on the order of hundreds of thousands of Fleet Marks). Do not be fooled by thinking the Tier 0 projects are representative of higher tiers. Even small fleets should be able to get to Tier 2 or 3 before it becomes a very lofty goal to get farther.
That said, requiring 5 players to form a fleet has been discussed as a bar that can be lowered if not eliminated at some point in the future. In the meantime, the advice to be social and engage in this massively multiplayer online game will make things more enjoyable. You can't do that by playing alone. But don't take my word for it...
Every other fleet, even the solo fleets out there, required 5 player to join up in a team and create a fleet. You are the one who wants the fleet. You either have to wait till 4 real people take a minute out of their play time to help you out or compensate them for their time. Weekends have a larger population of players. New players not in fleets usually find themselves going to Admiral Quinn's office or the ESD's shipyard. Its creepy, but I notice my female toons can always find someone to help them. I'm sure someone looking for a thesis topic will study that someday.
Going rate for "time compensation" is 50k to 100k EC. I have seen players accept less, even zero, but the more you offer the faster the response.
I don't think Cryptic is against solo player fleets, but I think its a waste of development time to build in a bypass for an already low bar of entry.

YEah I've taken to ignoring a LOT of people on my Female toon. Especially after someone kept pestering me for a private chat session.
I REALLY wish we could whip out a phaser and vaporize other players, just as a visual of blocking them.

But you do have access to that content, just as I do. I'm in a fleet of four people, I'm lucky if I see another person in the fleet on at the same time. You only have to do what I did when I started mine all on my own; ask for help creating it in zone on ESD, ask various friends you might have made if they can whip up a spare toon just to help out, ask the helpful people here in the forums. It's a simple thing to do, at worst you'll mess about in ESD for an hour while you gather up the required amount of people.
I gotta say, if this tiny puny little insignificant hurdle is so daunting to you that you feel you actually "don't have access to it" and have to run into the forums and ask for it to be changed so you can access it easier, then you're in for one hell of a horrendous surprise when you see what you alone have to do to get even one of those fleet projects up and running.
Why do I need 5 people to create a fleet? Why can't I create the fleet first, and then invite people into it, if I even care to have other people in it?
The simple answer is, because inventory space is a premium and Cryptic thinks Database storage/HDD is costly. You're not supposed to have such easy access to additional cheap storage.
Geko: Sure, well I don't really have a good answer for you. I don't think we're planning on making a separate pet inventory bag, I mean that could be done, but... Star Trek has of all the games I've ever worked on, of all the games Cryptic has worked on, probably any MMO, the largest data footprint of any other game, because you have your character's paper doll, and your ship's paper doll, all your ships, all your bridge officers, it's a lot of items, not to mention your bank, your fleet bank... so that's why we charge for inventory space, because it's expensive on our side to manage all that data, run out of harddrive space, to be honest, so we have to keep buying harddrives that fill.
Now if Cryptic instead lowered the price of the bank space and inventory slots, and or allowed us to purchase it with Dilithium as well as Zpoints/CP, there would be less of a need for all these 1 man fleets which might even lessen the strain on the database storage in the end.
I have spare character slots. I even have characters I'm not actively using on both sides. I would be more than happy to help people start their fleets, as long as it's understood that I won't be staying in or contributing otherwise.
Send a tell first, though. I don't respond to blind invites.
For that matter, I could use some help starting up a KDF fleet. I tend to play odd hours and usually don't have more than one of my Fed fleetmates on at any given time. I'm not inclined to pay out, but I do have an excess of BOFF candidates I'm willing to part with.

I see your point.
Too many people who don't wanna deal with fleets will miss out on the content. It isnt too fair IMO.
Yes yes everyone may have their opinions, but your open sarcasm and nastiness just proves his point in not wanting to deal with people like you in a fleet.
If you still need help creating a fleet you I have one fed I can help you with. @vinru821
I just spent three hours on ESD trying to get 5 people in a team, and all on the same map at the same time.
It is impossible.
I would get 5 people, and someone would transport to their ship.
I would get 5 people, and someone would be on ESD on a different map number (apparently there are at least 12 instances of ESD!)
I would get 5 people, and someone would suddenly leave the team.
I wasted three hours, and wasted three hours of at least two other good and generous player's time because of other players being dicks and a poorly implemented fleet creation mechanic created by Cryptic.
Seriously, we NEED fleet creation tokens! I am holding my money, extending it to Cryptic, and they don't want to take it. They would rather sit on a broken mechanic and infuriate all of their customers.
... Seriously! This stupid, asinine rule is making me so angry!:mad::mad:
I can't help but sympathize and agree with the OP on this subject. I want to create a fleet of my own, and invite no one but me, myself, and I... and all my alts. I have like 10 characters, so that should be enough to have a fleet just by myself.
Why not give me that option? Why am I closed off from a chunk of content, just because I don't get along with others? Why is it hard to believe that I want a starbase of my very own, untainted by the desires and agendas of others that dont share my vision? Do I care that it might take me a year to get anywhere with my starbase...? Not really, but it's there, and it's MINE.
Someone posed the question "Why play an MMO solo?", and the answer is simple... I like Star Trek, and enjoy the game itself. The addition or subtraction of additional players is irrelevant to me. If I saw NO ONE else online, it would make zero difference in how/when/where/why I play this game. PvP might get a bit boring... LOL but besides that, I rarely socialize with anyone while playing.
PS. To all you clueless dipwads out there who can't take a hint, let me spell it out for you in black n' white... if I DECLINE your friend request or Fleet invite... especially for the 5th time in a ROW... that means NOOOOOO!!!!!!! I don't want to make friends, I have enough of those already. I just wanna play my game in peace!
