Paying for ships Per character and not account wide

shapeywhelmshapeywhelm Member Posts: 0 Arc User
Some may recall a number of months ago when Cryptic talked about this, but ended it with how they have no plans to do this (at the time)

Season 6 is that time

You pay for your (Account wide) C-store ship

Then for each toon you want your "full fleet version on" you now pay for it again for each of your characters you want it for in the form of the token/blue print. (price TBD, I except no less then 500-1000)

well done Cryptic you found a way. :P

    I hope not...otherwise +1 turned off.

But I thought we were told not that long ago that c-points / zen won't even be involved.

they cost 20,000 fleet credits + a token you have to purchase from the C-store.

so you have to buy that token for each character you want to have said ship on.

There are two versions of some of the ships, 1 for fleet credits only.

Actually, I agree with the original poster. Even if the cost of the token is small, it's a slippery slope! Also, presumably ships that you buy this way will be permanently lost if dismissed, though I hope I am wrong and certainly could be.

Where is it said that these tokens are purchased from the C-Store.

OP: If you are just stirring the pot, don't. There is enough drama on these forums as it is.

CaptainGeko mentioned it, no word on cost but it will be "less" then current c-store ships

    (so anything below 2,000 cp)

Personally I don't see a problem with the system. These ships are supposed to be a cut above and mostly earned through contribution to the Fleet Advancement system. I fail to see peoples aversion to paying money to get things now a day, heck you don't even pay for things with money you pay for getting things quicker since Cpoints / Zen are able to be acquired for free.

I mean if you don't feel like getting the token for the ship, you can enjoy not flying the ship while others do, its pretty simple. I for one look forward to them. It all comes down to player enjoyment in the end. If you enjoy having a sub-optimal ship and being behind the curve, more power to you. It's not like you burden anyone but yourself or your friends in group activities by having an under preforming ship.

Just to be clear, are you saying Cryptic is offering a cheaper way to get ships superior to those that are currently C-store only? If so, how is this a bad thing?

Unless I can choose what the ship looks like with the boff slots I want, I wont be worrying about them anyways.
Not surprising if this is true though, PWE and Cryptic do seem to be moving more towards the usual PWE cash grab they have in their other games....

im not a per character fan but for this I have no issue with fleet ships being per character, especially as they are part grind. i personally have no need to buy a fleet ship (defiant for example) on more than one character. each character will use different ships so its not a real problem. in saying that if they could be account wide somehow then all the better.

the only functionality i would like is having the ship first come in a box that is account bound and can be moved to what ever character i wish. that would be very helpful.

Lets save the speculation til we have actual proof and even if they do I understand why they would do this so to me its not that big of a deal especially since I spend about 25.00 a month!

Personally I think the way they should do this is to have free players pay for a token, while subscribers should be able to obtain the ships without having to buy a token.

Well, kind of depends on what price they set for a token, doesn't it?

If it's a "token price" of 100 CP or less, then subscribers can simply pay for it out of their stipend. That's what the stipend is for.

If the cost is much higher than that, then I would agree that subscribers shouldn't be subject to a per-character token cost. (That said as a former subscriber and current Silver account.) That would be a real benefit to having a subscription and I might have to reassess my own subscriber status.

There are 2 versions of ships at Starbases:

    1. Fleet versions: cost 20.000 Fleet Credits and 1 Token from the Store (price unknown)
    2. Retrofits which only cost 200.000 Fleet Credits

You have to keep in mind that those ships are not nearly identical!
The Fleet versions are more powerful than the retrofits. More Hull/Shield Mods. Consoles etc.

So in the end, yes. You will have to pay for each character again, if you want the Fleet versions... even if you have purchased the ships from the Store before.

The Store ships only come with the additional costume and console. That's why I won't spend a penny on the Store ships anymore, because those ships will be far worthless than their Fleet versions. (Exceptions excluded).

I don't like that greedy move at all. They should just exchange the current store ships into the Fleet versions and the Tribble Fleet versions into the current store versions.

Or just make it so if you have purchased the C-store version of the ship, you don't need to buy a token to craft the fleet version.
