Shot in the dark: how much RAM does your PC have?

Do these in order to try to fix your problem (do one, start the game. Do the next, start the game, etc):
    1. Restart computer
    2. Ensure all drivers are up to date
    3. Uninstall Norton or McAffee and install one of these.
    4. Reinstall Game
    5. Make sure your video card still works (you can usually find a tool at the manufacturer)

PC Memory is getting cheap. ~$100 for 16GB. You may need to just upgrade.

While a lovely thought, I wouldn't leap to uninstall antivirus.

More memory does nothing for a 32bit OS.

Main question I have -- has this computer played STO before?

What kind of graphics card does it have -- the graphics card may be too outdated to play STO -- you need one that's DX 9.0c compatible (or better).

"3.75GB usable" does seem to indicate he is going 32bit. I just assumed everyone has a 64-bit OS. I've been rocking one since 2006.

Along with the 32-bit OS, I'm wondering if he's trying to fire up the game on some antique "integrated" graphics . . . .

    Hell no.

First thing you do is search the forums for your error. You should be doing that before you post in fact. edit: And I do hope folks answering these questions are doing the same.

Although in this case the problem is probably memory, although in this case it;s probably video memory.

What specific video card are you running? And how much video memory does it have?

There was also a patch way back when that upgraded directx v9 which is only required if you run into errors. For whatever reason, microsoft didn't push it out via update. Let me go find the download link.

edit: Linkie: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35 Windows Updates only updates to an older version of v9. This is v9.0c and you have to do it manually.

I have been playing the game successfully for 6 weeks with NO errors. I received my first error 5 days ago. I have a 64 bit OS I have a ATI radeon 3000 with 2 Gigs of video memory, I also searched the forums for my error and found nothing, I do appreciate you brain storming on why this might be happening so Thank you very much!

    Try re-installing the drivers:

    ---

NOTE: This will reset all your game settings:
Find the Star Trek Online folder and do a search for Gameprefs.pref
(It may find more than one)
    Rename them to Gameprefs.old

I've seen a similar error, but only when I have DirectX 11 enabled in the options. I seem to get a Direct3d error after about an hour to two hours of play. If I set it to DX9, I never see an error.

i don't think this has to do with any thing with the hardware i think it is from the new patch they did since i was playing this game fine with no problems for 4 months already and this just start to happen after i let the patch update since i got this fatal error: direct3d driver returned error (e_outofmemory) while creating a texture. and also telling me low virtual memory and ram when i have 32 xp ram 3g and upgraded my graphics card to amd radeon HD 6450 and with a processor dual cor amd opteron 180. and i know my system can play games since i can play black ops on it with no problems. so i think the developers need to figure out what mistakes they made in the new patch since to many people are getting this type of error heck it even is happening in champions online.

You may have had to re-install windows or made some changes recently

    Very easy fix

STO and ARC use components of DX9 and when you made changes you may not have old updates to DX9

    Easy fix ... takes seconds

go to this page and download and run

That's it ... please share with everyone having this problem :))

I too am getting a similar error.

Running on and Intel chip set.....32 gigs of ram on windows 7 professional....gtx 980 which has 4 gigs of ram on board....and yada yada.

Anywise my error is also a fatal error crash window.....but instead the game tells me it cannot find the device driver....after an expected reset call.........

    kind of an odd message.

got it after about 4 hours of play time.

I was getting weird random crashes before but with no error messages....but now I actually can see an error message.

In addition the cryptic error gathering tool starts up and as usual I make sure to hit submit before it vanishes.....but this time it errored out.

so just wanted to weigh in....that I think I have the same issue...

I highly doubt you ran out of memory...no game is ever going to use 2 gigs of video memory for anything....if it did the entire experience would be super smooth and would not look like star trek online.

You guys really need to read before you post. There are so many people having the same damn problems. SO DO SOME ****ING RESEARCH BEFORE YOU POST.

Now, to the point. If you guys scroll down in the forum there are many other of the same postings.

Second. Here is something you can try that fixed it for myself and others.

I just came across this after having 3 days of down time in STO. This has to do with the Cuda Cores on the Geforce Control Panel. Disabling these cuda cores fixed the problem for me. I had three different erroes. D3D11 Device Removed. D3D11 Creating Vertex Buffer. And D3D11 Error creating 1x1x1 mips .

nVidia Control Panel > 3D Settings > Manage 3D Settings > CUDA GPU's set to NONE

Now, if this doesn't work for you. Then stop posting and submitting tickets. This is causing problems for the rest of us trying to submit things that are of actual importance to the game. You can easily keep up to date on forum posts without posting the same damn thing over and over and over and over(u get the point) again.

yep you can easily keep up....which I think you need to do.

This is an error introduced for the latest build.....CUDA core does not help with this one.....so thanks for the advice...

your solution doesn't work for many, many folks b/c they cannot set cuda cores to "none" ( as I have repeatedly said as well )

Also : not being able to play the game ( at all ) is of pretty "vital importance to the game " , wouldn't you agree ?

In addition to this I can now also inform you the "emergency maintenance "didn't work at all regarding this particular issue

If your into gaming like most people, then they have changed the settings in the nVidia control panel. Some people don't get that you can just click "Load Default Settings". So if you explain it people are more than likely willing to try something.

Whats really bothering me this time....is that I am actually only sometimes getting the crash dialogue box.

And its super random when it occurs.....mostly it seams to just make the game stop and shut down....so strange how it seams to have no pattern I can see.

I was playing for about 4 hours earlier today...then It crashed as soon as I hit the exit button.

oh and weirdly enough...I decided to use some logging to keep track of the crashes and the graphics card is reporting no errors, just the game is having them.....and weirder still the crash log for the game only lists a couple server communication errors.

this covers it. I'm also trying to establish if there's a pattern - something logical- with regard to the CTD's ,but there isn't . It's on all maps and you know it will happen eventually ,just not when .It's completely random . I thought that the Deferi map was solidly bugged - and I suspect it is - but now also had crashing of client in Delta quadrant , Borg space , even in Sol system .

You can even have it crash on you while hanging stationary in sector space . It also has nothing to do with the character or the ships they happen to fly ( had it on KDF -DR flying standard raptor, on Romulan and on fed character ) . But it's seriously beginning to annoy me , b/c there's no ETA on a fix at all

As i understand from other forum posts including updates from Miss Trendy, This error is happening for 90% =/- of the playerbase since weds days patch. and since thursdays patch 100% of the player base is having an account server timeout problem.
