So.... I'm seeing the implications that we are loosing our PvP "head". It got me thinking....

For all the people ...er...."commenting" on his lose, my question is: could you do better for STO PvP?

I mean... assumming Cryptic is going to look for a replacement... would you qualify and what skills would you bring to Cryptic for the job?

Hey maybe they will contact you!

Me; I've been in IT for 30 years currently working with global applications... yep, that means system designed in the USA & Germany, coded in Chennai, tested in Taiwan & Austrialia! I'm a Senior Integration Analyst and BA.

I can code in VB, Php, .Ksh Oracle PL/SQL and a dozen others, I have experiance in extremly large system design and implementation (solutions 30-150 million US)

....but.....

Though I been here since open beta....I have no game creation coding/experiance.... Oh well!

How about you?

I could. I've had basic experience with balancing numbers before (some guy asked me to give his RPG engine a go-over. I changed his playable characters from walking gods to walking sods).

However, I think just about anyone here with basic game knowledge could. There are certainly people more qualified than I.

I bet if you combined that experience with a great foundry portfolio and/or had a podcast about the game you would be a top candidate. (not joking, and only being a little sarcastic with the podcast part).

I do graphic design, and have played many games. So... I am of course qualified, given that there isn't anyone doing it now!

Plus the cost of living in the San Jose/Los Gatos (that is after all south Silicon Valley) area nearly matches that of San Francisco itself right about now. But if one really wants to work on games, or really needs a job and has game experience, as slow as their hiring process is, the skills combo I mentioned before is ripe for picking.

I have many years worth of gaming, eating, drinking, masterbating, sleeping, working and procrastinating under my belt. I could go so far as claim that i've gone up to a higher plain of experience and can do several of those things at the same time!

Not quite sure how useful any of those frankly AWESOME skills are, but yeah... gimme a ring Stahl ;)

I think the worst thing they can do, is to hire whoever is the best at coding. That's like asking someone who is a grammar genius to write an entertaining novel. Just because you can write perfectly, doesn't mean you'll write something entertaining,

What they need is someone with extensive insight into human psycology in interaction with game mechanics. -then this guy must decide what needs doing, and have the systems department implement it.

This has always been the problem with STO. The people making the game don't know what makes players tick. So they give the players what they think the players need, and it fails. Then they give the players what they ask for, and that goes horribly wrong.

They need someone who understand how different game concepts can be implemented in a way that is entertaining.

How? Play it whole day. Respec at least 20 times per toon. (over two years). Play in good teams, play in bad teams. Learn what you doing wrong. Ask ppl who offer advice (but dont listen them too much :D cos u will have to develop your style and what is working for u). Be open minded (but no too much - boarding parties) etc etc.

They are not hiring any one from the game community, they are not hiring anyone that doesn't live at max 30 min from there office. They may well hire NO one and assign someone who is finishing up with something from neverwinter the task of doing STO stuff once a week....
They are also NOT going to be doing a major overhaul of PvP... they are most likely going to put a couple baidaids on at most, for that they don't need someone full time. They don't need someone with a psychology degree, or a programming degree or anything else.

Hell if they where smart they would head down to the closest community college and offer some fresh kid who wasn't good enough to get an instant job a nice internship. "Updated a major MMOs PvP engine" would look great on an application... and free or close to free labour rocks.

I hear those go for good money at the local pawn shops as well. (the gun) Hope no one tries to pawn yours on ya... easier to run from a fire I think.

Seriously you Americans are all a little bit crazy... when the Star Trek utopia comes to pass I think us Canucks may have to ammo up just long enough to calm you guys down some. lol ;)

I kid really we will calm you down by catapulting jars of Maple Surype over the boarder... and setup some massive speakers on the line to blast you all day long with celine dion, bieber, and perhaps some Brian Adams in the evenings. You will mellow I'm sure.

Well, I used to be worried that when judgement day came I'd walk up to the pearly gates and St Peter would look at me with a furrowed brow and say ... "And what have you been up too.... aye?"

But I no longer worry.... us primates in the states have not only added Hockey to our Self Defense training regement.... but have also figured out how to build our own casino's!

Now... if we could only figure out how to make a decent german beer?!
