Sci/sci - a viable option for PvP?

When I started my break three or so months ago I was all about "frack this game until make PvP a fun again". Now, three months later there is Euro 2012 and to many people for a nice walks around the city - so I have a month break from the break. Don't want to pay for TOR nad STO is still free :)

Anyway - I was always a sci fan. In the good times when one could find fun even in PvE - mixed ranks in missions, poeple poping out and in - fun, you know, I was flying a sci/sci shield healer/buffer. Was... FUN! A lot of. Then were the nerfs, I started a tac and then eng toons. Both were fun, sort of, but not the same as sci/sci. Now, for this month I want to have some fun in PvP, in sci/sci Fed toon.

Is this viable option on anything then lowest ranks? Or the only way to get some PvP fun from sci/sci toon is to create and delete toons and play only low-rank FvF PvP?

By viable option I mean a toon that would be able, like eng or tac, to use most of the consoles and powers to be a competition of some sort. One or two powers only configuration is a big no for me - it's not fun.

A sci/sci combo is very viable, and in fact, if you do it right it is down right vicious, just as it has always been.

i recently made a post talking about how we need a rework(some skills do among all the classes) few people showed me a bunch of nasty tricks just keep in mind dps may not be your main role but if your enemy has dps your job is to shut it down ;-)

I recently leveled a new sci character for a sci ship to help my fleet premades gank/heal better. At lower levels though I did not have my teammates to help do damage. I anticipated this and mostly keep full power to weapons and kept a weapons layout similiar to an escort with 2 dbb and a torp in front with 3 turrets in back. RCS console was a must to keep up with the escorts but the sci healing and ganking abilities neutralized most of my targets. The best part was most of the time i wasnt targeted as most feds and klinks went for the escorts or cruisers on my team first. Unless I was fighting a well organized team it was very fun going up against 3 ships alone and wiping them out, fed or klink.

If you need help with the builds just PM me in game.

PS I was almost always using green uncommon weapons saving my EC for VA LvL.

i recommend trying out a sci defiant.

i know its not the ideal experience in the game right now, and its actually quite challenging. but there is really something to the decloak, defuff, and spike that is still great fun. not quite sci-bop fun, but close.

Sci/sci is THE only option in my opinion, maybe sci/tactical all depending on situation.

a sci/sci is a must in any premade, imho sci players are fine, they need adjusments like all the things in this game, but i don't believe that they useless or totally nerfed like some here claim.
I'm waiting that the dilithiium rate drops a litle for buy the extra char slots and make 2 sci toons, 1 fed and 1 kdf.

Unless things have drastically changed in a month or so since I have been gone, (which to be fair they could have!) sci/sci is anything but a must in any premade and a sci/cru is superior in all respects.
Unless someone who I knows frequently participates in high-level premade PVP and says otherwise I would suspect this is still the case, and also seems likely given Damian's comment about flying a sci/defiant instead.
Given CPB's nerf there is now no reason to fly a sci/sci as a sci/cru can provide the same utility (read: SNB) as well as substantially greater healing and damage.
Some interesting builds can still be used with a sci/sci (TBR comes to mind) but all are too easily countered to be viable in premade PvP.

No reason to fly Sci/Sci anymore since science resists. Only exception is the carrier for the spam.

For fun, sci/sci is awesome in pvp. For actually winning... Not so much.

No kidding, Sci-BoPs are absolutely sick. I've seen people in tankier (i.e. non-BoP) escorts use Tractor Beam II surprisingly well too (if nothing else it forces someone to pop a skill).

    sci/sci has it's use.

sure, it's not a combination that gives good damage, no more than a tac captain can squeeze helaing and CC out of an escort.

If you wanna have fun and do serious CC or OK damage, go with an LRSV-R or a RSV, and lay everything into CC and damage.

If you want to be a bit more hely, lay more power to Aux and shields, and get a LRSV-R, or even a Nebula or D'Kyr. This will not give you a definite role in the team however. You will not be controlling the fight with CC or keeping the team alive by yourself, but you will be great help to support the main healer AND give the enemy a hart time with CC.

What you want to do with a sci/sci is pretty much up to you. It can be used in a lot of different roles, and it's strength is often the ability to perform OK at many different things at once, but to excel at nothing.
