Suggestions to encourage more PVP participation.

I have a suggestion to encourage more PVP participation. I've noticed lately the normal 2:17 wait time for fed vs. fed has dropped down to 3-4 mins and all the other matches, well they're questionably hardly worth the wait at certain times of day as the play time will be nearly the same (or less) than the wait time.

My suggestion is based on the idea of the lobi crystals store and also the encrypted data chips you get from PVE STFs. My main idea is simply to give out some kind of token for partcipation in PVP matches which you can save up and trade for some cool consoles or maybe some consumable device slot fighters. I think it might be easist to hand out lobi crystals since that's already in place and then expand the store with more items, although if there'd be a way to work it out so you could get some unique items which you can only acquire through PVP play, that'd be alright too.

For the lobi's, if theres some issue with inequality between acquiring the items in the store from the lock boxes versus PVP matches, then perhaps just make two different colored lobi crystals, one for lockboxes and one for PVP, red and blue for example and then have a red and blue crystal price for each item in the store. This would also be a good way to offer PVP only items as you could offer unique items to PVP players by offering a blue PVP crystal price only for the item.

Now I realise there are a lot of issues with PVP, we need more types of games, more maps, more people participating, but I think this might be one step of many needed towards putting some vitality into PVP matches if everyone got a little something at the end of each match. A 0-15 loss would sting a lot less if you could get a lobi crystal to trade for a stack of 3-5 fighters, that you could add to an existing stack up to 100, each match could be building towards getting more fighters and filling your stack to use wherever.

Alternatively, these tokens could be pooled towards entry tokens into special boss fights or certain new areas.
Which might be a more advanced idea for something to come, cause lets face it, this game is going to fail sooner or later if they keep releasing content, everyone plays it for a day, gets bored with it and goes back to another game, this game needs more high end content, special areas and more special slots in ships/char to fit special items which you can only get from high end areas that you can only get to by working at it.

Also, it'd be nice if the devs would do some of the work for us in making more advanced PVP play easier for the average player. Like adding into the game some of the special features you have to figure out how script on your own now, like a pressing a Single button to announce your target in team chat. And maybe assigning each of the ability rows a hotkey so you can activate entire rows of skills at once with a single key press. (Assign a row to like the C key, so you can Distribute shields, use a battery, use a couple buffs, at the same time). Would also be nice to hover your mouse over team mate's name, have their ship glow on screen and draw a line straight to their target and have a glowing halo around them as well so you can quickly see who's attacking who.

Back from my digression and on to the original suggestion, I think a lot of people are hesitant to even try PvP based on other RPG experiences, which I've found, don't always apply to Star Trek PVP, for example, I've found most people to be friendly and helpful even in PVP. People who've smoked me and done top damage, I've sent them tells asking for help and info on their build and ended up chatting with them for an hour or more on occasion.

I think giving everyone something they can earn or work toward by playing PVP will encourage more people to play it more often and make it much more interesting to play.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your feedback. I hope something like this idea makes it into the game and it helps boost player participation so the devs will be encouraged to add more PVP content.

Thanks, Blu / Blutigre of the SIDEWINDER, ANGELFIRE, DARK ANGEL, TRISCORPIO C

Maybe make a pvp requirement to advance in rank like play 3 matches.

Also i would like to see the match more balanced because it really isnt fair if youre iin a match and your side has 3 crusiers and 1 science ship while the other side has 2 carriers and 2 escorts. Or if your in lower levels one side is all science and escort vessels while the other side has only cruisers. (yes even with all of the updating it still is unbalanced but not as bad as before.)

Possibly make it more balanced like if if there are two carriers in a match put one on each team.

This is a suggestion for the ground PVP maps which in my opinion are way more fair and balanced then the space ones. I would on the straight just kill the opposing team , i would first spawn all of the team players fa apart from one another on each side so you don't get some matches which do happen every so often where one team gets the high ground with a great defense and they are able to kill the other team one by one 20 time before any of them dies because of the way they were put in where they had a 3 to 1 advantage for most of the match, in part because they could move around while the opponent was stuck in a long straight hallway.

Don't misunderstand me i like pvp in all the forms but when my character gets up to being an admiral i may drop the space pvp in part because the higher your level at least for the space one, the more unbalanced (in terms of ship distribution one side all cruisers compared to the other side being escorts and carriers. im not talking about items and weapons.) and unfair it gets in space where usually one side wins in like five minutes and gets about 90% of the kills in before the other side gets one. (at least that is how it is in the assault and arena space maps)

uhmm... we had this system.. they removed it when they introduced Dilithium.

Before that, we got special marks for participating in pvp, that could be used at pvp vendors in K7. The stores, however, were not maintained, and the items very soon became bypassed by other gear in the game. And in stead of updating the store, they removed the whole "reward for pvp" concept :p

Why not just add random loot drops when you blow up a player ship just like it happens in PvE with NPC ships?

I think an interesting idea would be to get away of the idea of "currencies" and instead use a concept similar to the DOFF commendation tiers. You basically earn a PvP rank, and this rank gives you privileged access to certain stores. You still pay with "common" currencies, e.g. Energy Credits or Dilithium.

    PvP D-Store
The store contains rare and very rare items. The rare items cost only 1/4 of the very rares. The gear mods are optimized for PvP.

    PvP DOFF Assignments:

A small set of DOFF assignements available on Ganalda or Deep Space K-7. A few assignment chains exist to gain you access to highly sought after rare or very rare DOFFs.
    • Common Assignments: These grant only decent EC and Dilithium rewards
    • Uncommon Assignments: On a critical,they grant a consumable.
    • Rare Assignments: On a critical, they gain very rare items
    • Very Rare Assignment: On a success, they grant a rare DOFF, on a critical, they grant a very rare DOFF.

    PvP EC-Store
This store contains a lot of special consumables, some possibly even new

    PvP Apprentice
    • Requirement: 3 PvP matches
    • PvP D-Store: Gain access to rare weapons and consoles.
    • DOFF Assigments: Gain access to the common assignments.
    • Special: Gain exclusive ship and player costume signifying your PvP expercience. New versions become available as you grow in rank

    PvP Novice:
    • Requirement: 100 PvP Matches and 20 Wins
    • PvP D-Store: Gain access to rare shields, armor, deflector and engine
    • EC Store: Gain access to uncommon consumables (Large Batteries, Deuterium Surplus)
    • DOFF Assignment: Gain access to uncommon assignments.
    • Special: Add 8 slots to your inventory.

    PvP Veteran:
    • Requirement: 500 PvP Matches and 100 Wins
    • PvP D-Store: Gain access to very rare weapons and consoles and Mark X PvP Sets
    • EC-Store: Gain access to Common DOFFs with traits well-suited for the PvP Assignments
    • Special: Gain a free Retrain Token

    PvP Ace:
    • Requirement: 1500 PvP Matches and 300 Wins
    • PvP D-Store: Gain access to very rare shields, deflectors, engines etc. Also gain access to Mark XI PvP Sets an new Bridge Officers with rare traits.
    • EC-Store: Gain access to BO Trainer for Lt.Cmdr Rank III BO powers
    • DOFF Assignment: Gain Access to rare assignments.
    • Special: Gain an additional ship slot

    PvP Top Ace:
    • Requirement: 5000 PvP Matches and 1000 Wins
    • PvP D-Store: Gain access to uncommon DOFFs well-suited for PVP DOFF assigments, and Mark XII PVP Sets.
    • EC-Store: Gain access to BO Trainer for Cmdr Rank III BO powers
    • DOFF Assignment: Gain Access to very rare assignments.
    • Special: Gain an exclusive shuttlecraft.

Yea, 5k matches is umm... way ridiculous lol. Do you really know how many games that is? Or the amount of time that it is. Considering you're average match takes anywhere from 10-25 minutes..lol. 60,000+ mins in PvP? And it would more then likely be PER CHARACTER ; is lolworthy time:reward.

Ha ha well based on the other posts on this thread it looks like TRIBBLE and orion females would be the main incentive for more PVP participation.

I think it'd be a good idea to reintroduce a system like before though. Offer items which you can get no where else but PVP, maybe some fighter ships that explode with a very strong AoE blast when they reach 0hp like tricobalt devices or something. The main thing is make it worthwhile for people to play it besides just for fun, give everyone something they can earn through gameplay. Both accolades and gear.

Now another issue, which I'm sure scares a lot of new ppl away is the fact that a lot of matches end up being 15-0. A lot contributes to this, a fleet playing against a pug group, people actually talking to each other and working together calling targets, and that crazy old fashioned idea where all the ships on one team stay together and play practically and logically. Well thats why I'd suggest designing some PVP games where theres more strategy involved that just simply fly to center of map and stay huddled together and wait for the other pug side with premades to come flying at you like skeeters to a windshield. Vary spawn rates, add some wormhole-teleports to the maps or something, make it harder to have 5 vs 1 so people have to work at having 2-3 vs. 1. What about some space hazards that destroy your ship in a few seconds if you get caught in it? I think PVP also should have a PVP only extra speed boost, make ppl more mobile, give everyone an extra ability like evasive manuevers which only works in PVP.

To get a decent PVP situation, you gotta go back to old school. Look at Quake, people on dial-up modems played that for hours back in the 90s, you couldn't even shoot your target you had to guess where they were walking to or else you'd miss, but the basics were right so it was fun. Random spawn locations, inside a maze, with plethera of cool weapons to play with and a hook shot for gymnastic evasiveness. Ok so do that, just in space with spaceships and you've got perfect PVP.

And don't tell me you cant do it, for maze ...use a giant nebula where some of the particles are so dense a ship can't pass through...WALLS of the MAZE. Hazards, small proto-stars you can fly into an actually burn up if you get too close, or a Borg hazard where your ship is assimilated and begins attacking both teams randoms for 15-45 seconds, do that and you've got both a fun hazard to watch out for and a varied spawn rate to avoid 15-0 games. Remember the hookshot in quake? Add that too, a special PVP only ability that lets you tractor beam any ship and do a warp jump so it basically flings you round around the other side of the ship km away. Use it to escape and evade, and also to confuse and decieve so ppl have a harder time targeting you. This is star trek ppl, anything is possible. :P
