Lead Content Designer Scott Goatshark Shicoff shares details about the upcoming Colony Invasion event in this entry of the Season 6 News Dev Blog series.
This event is always available, but if you play during certain hourly events (calendar updates to be announced at a later date) you will earn even more rewards.
always-available PvE event and the details around that sound great.
Another timed calender event does not - for every event added to the calender, the rotation time between other events must necessarily increase, which makes people's issues with timed events even worse.
Still, the general model of "Always available event + timed bonus period" works well
I can understand gating certain events to keep people from farming things like datalogs and such, but in a game where one of the biggest outcries is no new content, its a terrible idea to put out new content but limit it to an hour a day if the person is lucky to find the time. I really like the idea here and like in champions where the event runs all day but gives better or more rewards as its once a day time slot. I'm looking forward to trying this once it goes live, and possibly finding that hidden path.
Is this always on the same ground map? That is to say, is it always the same colony that is being attacked?
"This is the USS Reinmann to the federation colony on Badluckulon IV: Seriously guys? Again? just move! Last week it was Tholians, now it's Borg, just pack up and leave"

If the rest of the calendar is being changed to this format, like that of Champions Online, then this gives me huge incentive to play STO a lot more again.
So what enemies do we fight? I know Jem'Hadar and Klingons, but what else? Romulan, Borg, Cardassian, Undine, Fek'Ihri, Breen, Orions, Nausicaans, or something else?

All of the above are enemies in the game not quire sure who we fce on the colony possible Tholians
i have enjoyed playing this on tribble. its not that hard but you can get killed easily if you take your eye off the ball. the objectives are tricky to get all of them, so that will encourage replay and i like the idea of the enemy group changing. that adds a little extra to the map.
i think it would be cool if there were 2 or 3 different map types as well. or even if its cloned and the maps have different effects like rain or snow, or a building or two is moved around.
The way I see it, you'll have to start either A: condensing some of the calendar events, as you did with the Academy and Mirror events, or B: adding a second calendar row, making 2 events active at any time.
To answer jg2112's question, the opponents are selected randomly from any possible race in the game (POSSIBLY excluding Federation and KDF races, though I believe there are separate queues, so it'll likely just exclude the races that are allied with you.)
Can't wait for this to hit holodeck have had great fun on tribble with it. and as for the harder battle hiding elsewhere on map think i need to go back to tribble and find it

If they are gonna put it like it was on Tribble, then that should be RANDOM ENEMIES similar to No Win Scenario.
Me and my fleetmates from Jupiter Force were testing and all were having different enemis.
It would be cool if it is random enemy, you would get something fresh than always fighting the borg.
If my Fleet is gathering resources and places them all in the Fleet bank do the members who contributed still get credit for the resources they put in? I am not sure how this will work. If all members are credited based upon the total contribution that is one thing but if each member is credited based upon their personal contribution that is another and will the Fleet Bank keep track of that and will that information transfer over to the new feature all individuals are credited from previous work? We tried to get ahead of the game by gathering resources early and placing them in the Fleet bank. Are we screwed now because of this?
I put a ticket in to Customer Service asking this question and this was the response I get:

Okay are you Kidding? I am asking customer service about a feature in the game. The community can't answer that. Talk about getting blown off! Putting this question on the Forums is "Maybe we can get back to you on that - good luck!"
They couldn't check with someone to find out ? Lousy Customer service on such a simple request considering it took place on a format designed to share information! Cryptic and Perfect World you have to do better than that.
You haven't read a single post on the second dev blog or the Massively article before that, have you... You don't get Fleet Credits for inputting stuff into the Fleet Bank, you get them for inputting stuff into Fleet Projects that directly affect the starbase! Anybody telling you to put stuff into the fleet bank for usage in a starbase is either crazy, or more likely a scam. Fortunately, you can't input Duty Officers, Boff XP, or Dilithium into the bank, so...
Edit: Oh, you mean... nope, you won't get Fleet Credits retroactively - ask for a refund on your items or petition your fleet leaders to redistribute the items so that they can be evenly used in projects. Otherwise it's a scam and you just fell for it.
This is a Starbase question and should be in that thread. Having said that, the members will contribute and earn Fleet Marks - those when applied to a Fleet Project will result in Fleet Credits. Both are bound to the member's account until expended. The Fleet Credits are only valid in Fleet Stores. So the short answer is anything done now is gratis - nothing will be earned by your members.
Did you guys actually read my unlimited content idea thread (1st link in my sig)? Sounds familiar!
Awesome. Keep creating content with randomized enemies and the countent drought will soon be over.
DYNAMIC CONTENT IS WIN!
Just 1 suggestion:
Start adding some race specific loot drops to enemies. Very rare special items (even new set components) that drop from them randomly (or just from 'bosses' of each race). It will drive people to really want to farm them!

Seconded. It irked me to no end when Defera ground invasion came out, and with Vault shuttle event now.

Now that is more like it!
Are those Tholians in the pic?
No, I zoomed in. They're Jem'Hadar. I'd doubt cryptic would post about the Tholians unless they've officially announced them.
That was funny!

"Random invading forces" - sounds like the invading forces are random (hope that includes random race & loadout, should make things interesting)
as far as ive seen so far, yes it is the same map. its like the defera. it has no luck.
whether you want to pretend its a different colony is up to you but the map does not change.

The Maquis were gone practically since the Dominion War started. Sorry ^^
It's been moved to private queues :P
