Hi Captains,

The Foundry for Star Trek Online is currently unavailable. The team is aware of this and will provide updates to this thread as they become available.

Cheers,

Brandon =/\=

UPDATE #1 (1:37pm PDT): This applies to both editing and playing Foundry projects.

UPDATE #2 (3:09pm PDT): The team is working on bringing the Foundry back up. Our current ETA is 7pm PDT but this can change to be earlier or later. Thanks for your patience.

UPDATE #3 (7:30pm PDT): Our new ETA is 8pm; again, this can change to be earlier or later. Also, read this post.

UPDATE #4 (9:08pm PDT): The Foundry for Star Trek Online is now available for use, including both the editing and playing of projects. If you see any irregularities with any of your missions (which you shouldn't), please send me a PM with your mission name, project code, and what's wrong. I will not be able to respond to PMs, but I will pass along the information to the team.

Ugh, I just lost an hour's worth of work b/c the project wouldn't save. An in-game announcement might have prevented that.

But, thanks for the heads up on a forum, while I was deep in the editor.

I wonder if this ever happens to the devs that get paid to make content, unlike us.

"Um, my computer just got a blue screen of death and I lost my progress."

A: "Dude, didn't you see the sticky note on the fridge in the break room?"

This sounds like a great time to bring up adding chatroom interface into the editor, so that you could say broadcast a global message that you could bloody well see, as an example

Just for once guys, could we maybe have an impending season update that doesnt seem to somehow bork the foundry?

Right, as is, when you are in the Foundry, you're cut off from the rest of the game. Seeing as I can talk to people in Champions Online from Star Trek Online, I do not see why it would have to be that way.

    Would be a good addition.

This might also be a good time to bring up the discussion of whether or not we should all unpublish our missions right before Season 6 goes live, to avoid any auto-republish bugs like last time.

It didn't appear to be a planned takedown; it crashed. (just FYI.)

Was about to sit down and punch out an episode after a day of story mapping and planning. Maybe at the same time they can add a few more things to the foundry? (doubt it).

Regardless, still digging STO. Keep up the good work guys!

This is a great idea; I'll pass it along. :) In the meantime, don't forget that, if you are signed up for Tribble, you can access in-game chat via a XMPP client. More information here.

well yes, but this is still an external interface and it doesnt recieve system messages, like "We are disabling the Foundry in 5 minutes, please save all your work now so you don't lose 1+ hours worth of work"

At bare minimum make it allow non ship spam messages broadcast to the editor level so that people can see when things are occurring

Oh phew, glad it's being worked on. I just tried to log in, finally in the mood to work on my mission and got worried I couldn't get in. I thought my account had gone cookoo.

I assume this is to fix the problems

ne of my major projects (which is also published) has most of its contents missing...just lots of "resource is missing " messages and i lost all but one of my maps :( and maybe 100hours + of work

    fingers crossed

That's super scary if it's related. I wonder if some kind of update to some maps made the older version go poff.

    That's season 4 on super-steroids.

Hopefully this means they will fix the problem with buying more slots. I submitted a ticket and the response was they would fix it on the next update.

You should be saving more often.

While yes, ideally you want more notice, etc., bugs happen - and you should be saving every few minutes or any time you make significant changes, just like using any other app in the world.

Indeed the mission is updated once a month as it contains avatars of all our command staff(which do change) so a player can interact with them as a promotional tool for recruitment. They can access a database to read our fleets policys etc. They can visit multiple decks to "visit" each division we have. It also had a mini puzzle....i was about to add a space combat portion at the end where the player would help actual 12th fleet members ships(costumes) fight off an attack on the fleets starbase.

alas thats when i realised 80% of the mission is gone...just awol.

I really hope that when the Foundry's fixed it'll mean that we can buy foundry slots again. I was going to buy a few and get started on making some missions, but that's kind of hard to do when the bar for it's grayed out and whatnot despite having more than enough dilithium on my primary character.

Am I the only one here who is kind of leery of entering my login info into a 3rd party app like an XMPP client?

Get an open-source client like pidgin. If you're leery, you can look through the source code.

    Problem solved.

(And FYI, pidgin is safe so far as I can tell and works with just about everything.)

I lost a good forty minutes worth of work. Still could have been a lot worse, though.

I almost panicked when I saw the "Create Content" tab was greyed out, thinking it was a problem with my account. Glad to see it's not.

Thanks for keeping us updated. Get it done!

What I noticed happen, was one of my missions was totally borked "IN Foundry"; the live version was fine.

It had missing skins on npcs, mission doors moved, it was just a mess.

I almost panicked until i played the entire live version and found it was fine.

The problem now is, I cannot update the mission without publishing the borked version, i'd still have to do a LOT of edits to fix it.

I was thinking of importing the live non buggy version, and editing over the other, i'm hesitant to delete the version in Foundry call me paranoid, I want reassurance it won't delete the live version.

OK this is getting scary very fast. If we can't republish, then all of our missions could be permanently borked if there is a slightest of change that requires a simple republish.

I would expect its something like one of the programs serving some aspect of the foundry may have crashed leading to some sort of cascade collapse of the entire system as the server got caught running loops when it couldn't find certain things. If there's a problem they should be able to fix it. The foundry is a big part of the game, and folks, remember its still technically in Beta! Soooo that means things like this can (and likely will from time to time) happen. They NEED to happen so that the devs can find the problems and fix them. Let them take their time to get things back up and running. In the meantime, do some STFs or grind lockboxes (if you are a sado-TRIBBLE), or better yet find some other way to spend your time while they get this fixed.

    Werd.
