Are anybody’s Boffs acting a bit . . . well, Special ?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
More specifically Boffs getting stuck in curtain places.

For instance i have an Andorian engineering officer, whom when he uses his Cover shield ability often gets stuck behind it . . usually i get half way across the map before i notice he’s missing, then when i make the journey back to retrieve him i find the fellow frantically twitching behind his own cover shield not being able to figure out just to simply walk around it . . honestly the man can remodulate weapons arrays and put a warp engine together with his eyes closed . . yet finds it a total conundrum to simply walk around a shield, sometimes i think i’ve promoted him too soon?

Also this maybe due to a bit of game knowhow, since i’ve only been playing for a little while . . but is there a way to stop Boffs on ground missions using their powers, and only use them on my command? What i mean is, that i sometimes set up an ambush, placing turrets, mortars and such, in places i think are tactically beneficial, only for the battle to start . . and my boffs respawn the turrets at their current position . . spoiling my plans to flank the enemy and get that precious little extra damage.

Just wanted to ask if any of you guys have had this problem, and what was your solution?

Thanks for the help in advance :-).

P.s . . i hope i've posted in the right place in the forums . . lol

I've had similar with my Engineer - although he actually gets stuck within the shield (i.e the shield materalises around his arm and/or leg).

Furthermore, I've had similar happen where my toon was stood too close to the engineer when he materalised the shield and my toon became stuck in the shield.

Ditto ! . . . i've been stuck in his bloomin shield too . . tried jumping . . running and couldn't escape . . the only way i managed to get out was to make him spawn his shield again . . and run the heck away before it materialized . . Phew!

Sorry to hear you've had probs too, at least i know it's not happening only to me, and i'm not simply playing wrong or something.

If you get stuck in an object (i.e. a covershield) just type /stuck into the chatbox and that should free you.

As for your boffs I would advise against giving any of them cover shield. It's just too damned glitchy and unreliable, far better to give them weapon malfunction imo.

Awesome, didn’t know about that text box command . . that’ll come in handy, thanks for that. :D

And yep, i think you’re right, cover shield is gonna have to go . . shame really since when it is working, and i don’t get stuck . . it’s really handy cover. But yeah . . weapon malfunction it is . . gonna have a good look at powers later see what treats i can replace it with.

That happens to me sometimes too. Very annoying.

You can disable them using that ability at will, by right-clicking on its icon.

Great news . . so you can disable the "Auto use" just like the Auto fire on the Starship . . . awesome . . i didn't know that, and thanks for the info . . at least now my boffs won't undermine my sneaky traps i leave for unknowing NPC's . . Mwa ha ha ha.

Sorry to hear you've had the problem . . and i agree . . it is really annoying, lets hope this is on the list for things to fix :D

    Thanks again :D

This is why I never give my Boffs toys to play with and never give them cover shields. Boff cover shields have been a problem for a very long time. best thing you can do is give him harmless items like mines, turrets or shield fixes.

Did Frozen yesterday with a friend, he was on the other side of the base, his Jemmie BO ran all the way back to my Female VA knelt infront of her, and scanned her crotch with a tricorder before running away again. Aside from BO's with miniguns going postal after battles, this was the weirdest s... I have seen a Boff do yet!!!

Lol that made me laugh . . i haven't had that quite yet . . i just get the twitching behind stuff syndrome, but thinking about it . . i did see another player running around earth space dock up to his waist in floor . . that was quite funny :-)

Boffs do some strange things, i think the closest i got to this was when i got incapacitated, asked to be revived by the away team . . one arrived and helped me . . then for the next few moments . . they all took it in turn to go the the place i was . . and try to revive nothing . . i was like

    "I'm alright already"

Never gave mine Cover Shield and had it replaced when they came with it, but I do have significant problems with them running off on their own and drawing obscene amounts of aggro. You know the Briar Patch mission where you have to find the experimental missiles and blow them up? That room where you're planting the explosives and have to fight four different groups of Klingons? My BOFFs thought it would be fun to run off and draw the aggro of three of those groups at once. Fortunately the ******* got killed before he could drag the fourth in so I didn't have to respawn that time, but it was a near thing.

You know what? I think I'm going to rename all my BOFFs "Lemming." :D

I've seen the cover shield madness. I simply replaced the ability with another for the BO.

Though I've seen the other glitches. Namely the "Help me!" then they spend the next several minutes taking turns trying to revive me. And the one where a Bridge officer suddenly decides to SPRINT to the other end of the map for no reason at all.

I've also seen once where my BO decided to not move at all, and just sit there like an ***.

The weirdest though, I put the first and second year party poppers, and the fire extinguisher, on my breen's item slots *for storage out of the way* And... then he started using them. all the time. Middle of combat? I shall spray you with rainbow dust instead of shooting you with my gun! It got so bad I was like "Yoink, put into bank. No more shiny toys for you!"

And BO's seem to love using the devidian triolic pattern enhancer thingy, after a battle.

a couple months back, my boffs kept getting stuck behind open doors. It was like they refused to believe that they were open.

Ha ha ha your post made me laugh, i would have liked to see that boffs firing fireworks at enemies . . but on the up hand, it must have been a distraction for them . . lol. :D

Here's a tip I discovered: every time you get to a new respawn point, jump into the fire and kill yourself. Then you'll respawn with all four of your boffs.

Sorry to Kinda hijack this thread, but it's regarding Boff's and their.....specialness!

Does any-one know of a way to stop them using their devices unless they're actually in combat other than taking them away from them?

Example: In the missions where you just have to run around scanning things/accessing computers etc there is no need for them to use Power Cells! I always make sure that all my away team have 20 Large power cells/hypo's/shields thingys each before we go down to a planet (Just in case, you know!) and as soon as we beam bown, no matter what the mission, they're shooting up like it's new years eve! I can understand it with the Jem Hadar and the Ket, he's an addict after all, but the others???

I swear, I left off topping them up for a whole day, we had NO combat missions, and they used ALL their power cells! thats 80 large power cells with no battles!!!

The space in my inventory is limited enough (even though it's maxed out) without having to ration my away team! They're Star Fleet Officers, not children!

Any-way, rant over, sorry! Any ideas, or should I just take away their toys?

lol! I didn't notice Kalavier's post there! and yes, each Boff always has 20 of each large device, and 1 tribble! I know that at least 1 of my Doffs ADORES hers! As soon as she's hit the power cell after beam down, she gives it a cuddle! lol!

To be honest, I think I over stock on those things! As I said, each Doff (only the away team) always has 20 of each, my inv has 80 of each (plus 20 of each of the "combined" ones that I use) and the Doff's that are not on my away team (5 of them), 1 has 80 power cells stashed, 1 has 80 Hypo's stashed etc, and the other 2 have a mix! Is this excessive? lol! How many of them do you guys pack?

ooh, also have at least 60 Shields Batteries and 60 Weapons Batteries for my ship too! at least I'll not run out any time soon, but I do tend to top up supplies each time before I log off! it's a habit I find hard to break! lol

Given the nature of this thread is "Specail" Boffs.. I had to share this one as it my favorite.

Me and my buddy (who I just was just teaching how to play the game) where doing a few missions together. And randomly I was noticing a few fights were lasting longer and seemed harder...

I shugged it off and kept going, one time we stop after almost dying... I am having a WTF?!?! moment. Then what I do spy.. My buddies Bajorin Boff run out of the room shoot an enemy in the face and come running back to us for help....

I honestly don't know if this is an "as designed" moment or not.

    Damn Bajorins....

Sounds like either A: Boff spasmed and ran off.

or B: Something I've seen happen a bit, which is an Enemy suddenly decides mid-fight, to RUNAWAY, then come back after a little bit.

    *snip*.

What? He figured out the reason they couldn't revive you was that all their tricorders batteries died, and he was running off to get some AAA's.

Actually the whole running off and drawing aggro thing is fairly common now. I don't know when it exactly it started, and I'm sure there'll be people chiming in and saying it was always this way, but for the first month or so my BOFFs weren't that bad - I mean sure they'd go through their hypos like junkies, but that just meant I didn't give them any more after their default number ran out. Then, all of a sudden, they're running halfway across the map and the running back and if they happened to go forwards instead of back they're dragging half the level's enemies with them!

...actually, wasn't there an update to the BOFF AI in the last couple of months that had them stop treating their hypos like candy and actually start using them in a semi-intelligent manner?

If thats the case, great, but they need to do something about the Power Cells next, or better still, ALL devices! lol

In the Klingon mission you confront Torg, there is a pipe near the top of the very high ceiling which at least 2 Boffs every time have found a way up to. And of course they cannot find a way down but sit there staring at me like a wild-eyed cat and I am forced to finish the mission with half and away team.

Sweeping strike and cover shield are amazingly useless. And then there's "threat control" -- have a Boff you don't like that you want to see face-down a lot? Give them "threat control".

The only "through the ground" problems I've had were in Hromi cluster maps. (I even got to see "void" myself). I don't go there anymore.

Their mad "ferret on coffee" bouncing about makes AOE heals nigh useless for a team, I just use them on myself, if one of the Boffs happens to be in range, it's just a bonus.
