I'm not much of a reader, and I know I read slow. 159 wpm according to this test, and this will sound like an excuse, but the verbiage of this particular test was not usual in my experience, and caused me to pause to understand what they meant more often than I think I would otherwise.
Still. . . I'm a very slow reader.

I have this weird problem with reading on screens. Its why I'll never get an eReader. For some reason, the faster I read, the more likely my eyes are to just skip a line, making me have to go back and reread something. Doesn't happen very often on hard copy.
I'll stick to good old books for the foreseeable future me thinks.

No kidding. I took the test twice, and got 'War of the Worlds' and 'Alice in Wonderland'. I've actually read 'War of the Worlds'; it was pretty tough going for such a short book, because the language use seemed so... awkward, from a modern perspective.
"You read 164 words per minute.
That makes you 34% slower than the national average."
well i'm german... so not MY national average ;P
and there were some ODD words in there
but all 3 questions correctly answered even though half the text made no sense at all...
//
tried another time and got it to 190 words
but only 2 of 3 questions correct... hmmh
btw. it gives you different texts to read every time you restart
i decided to test the speed and i clicked on the page, saw it was the same page i had just done and then clicked finished. it came back with 4898 per minute. the world record is 4700. i must have had the page open for about 4 seconds perhaps? so maybe she can read it on 5 seconds. thats insane.
This is a good reason to try to get more voice overs in the game. Spock might say that it's 'only logical given this new evidence' and Data might turn his head and say 'Being an Android reading is easy for me. McCoy and Scotty must be tired of reading all those medical and Engineering Journals. So, to me it just makes sense and I don't have to take a test or anything like that to know that I have trouble reading. My Neurologist says that I can't even 'skim' with my eyes, so when I read my eyes go section by section. Also, it makes sense to add Voice overs when your competition (SWTOR) has. Lastly, we do need our eyes and working them by reading is important but Star Trek is supposed to be a game to escape work and embrace the Trek universe, which can be done better when you aren't in work mode reading. Imagine listening to the NPC on the screen say something that is more meaningful to hear than read because you're imagining yourself right next to them at that moment-it'll almost be like 3D. These are the reasons that I implore you guys into at least coming up with an idea and maybe, even if it can't be brought into the game at this time, start working on an in-game solution to what I propose. Please:D :)

I don't mind cutscenes, since there is more going on in them, but pure voice overs are useless to me. I've read the whole thing before the VO is 20-25% thru.

True, but sometimes it makes it that much more immerse don't you think?

Oh, and I got 408 wpm for Alice.

2nd test: 1,357 WPM.
3rd test: 1,571 WPM.
Maybe I had to get warmed up. The paragraph breaks in the first one messed with me. I'm apparently faster the fewer breaks there are.
Nice, you missed the speed reader mark by 4wpm, so close:)
Whos to say that the person who reads 4700 words per minute doesn't enjoy it also

Redid the test and got 1673!
