That Cryptic is trying to cut ties with the MMO? Think about it, no more STF's on the board, FE's may go as well. Devs being defensive in interveiws, the Ask Cryptic Forum is useless, everything we say is either disregarded or unanswered. Yet they still advertise something awful about new gear and new toys for us to play with and yet we no new missions, STFs, heck even events to use them in and quite frankly i suspect its dilliberate and they will deny it.

Think about it the Devs are giving us stop gaps and open ended questions, this is not a rank thread but a thinking one, i really want you guys to voice on this one because we may be the end of days with this MMO and the Human Adventure maybe over for awhile. As for the Klingons there Adventures may have already been sealed. I also wonder if CBS has something to with Cryptics lack of progress and they can't tell us for that reason?

Any thoughts guys?

Well, they are developing Fleet Starbases and intend to introduce new ships, and there is plenty of talk pertaining to season six.

Though the emphasis on producing items that require a C-store spend (one way or the other) over new content is unlikely to elicit too much confidence in those who feel that the game has an uncertain future.

there is a gap now in new content because they are making season 6.

they are making fleet starbases and improving fleet structuring and 20 man fleet actions for those fleets, a new large scale ground invasion involving the tholians, plus several other 5 man events. there will probably be more stfs later on as goz only said he is not making any now and i suspect there will still be episodes, just perhaps not in the ame format as a the 5 part series we are used to.

the most recent mission is a 5 man shuttle event and they are now finally restructuring pvp which is part on most mmo's.

everything above is part and parcel with mmo's so i dont know what you mean.

edit - if anything its becoming more of an mmo and less of a single player game.

This is not the end of days. FEs and STFs and Story content is on hold while we work on S6. Once S6 is out, we will be reevaluating and picking back up on those or similar things.

Yeah - the Tholians.... because being at war with everyone else just wasn't enough.

Sorry - I just wish that they'd do more with the Iconians rather than throw the Tholians in from no-where.

Yeah well Tumorboy its a little scary when you don't tell us anything right off the bat, you would be spooked too if you were in our shoes and content is different than having all the toys. The smoke and mirrors and blatant disregard for our discontent is the reason i posted what i posted

Before F2P came out people were somewhat happy, and all the people in game and out warned us this would go down hill and it has to a degree.

the one thing that gets me, is that it seems anything and everything can put Playable mission content, on hold. S4, F2P, S6, it all has, when can we put all that on hold for some PMC?

    naaah

i've been here since launch, it is the same pattern as usual
shortly before a season update everything goes silent for a month (or three), almost no Dev's pop up in the Forums, no info goes out, not even patches with any updates (probably because the internal build is far ahead of holodeck and would be incompatible to Holodeck) etc.

content delivery was always slow, while the C-Store gets new toys on a regular schedule

sadly new FEATURES always are top priority
these new Features, lets say "difficulty slider" (instakill mobs!) or "shooter mode" (line of sight targeting broken by BOffs all the time, need or greed button not selectable... etc. etc.) are always released in a barely usable state so that the players have to wait for version 2.0 of that Feature to be really enjoyable,
i have no doubt that it will not be different with the new shiny Starbases.

and bug fixing the current incarnations of these new features goes only so far, because once they are released, the next big thing is on the schedule
(there seems to be some communication problem, bug reports not getting through to the responsible Dev's or they are just to busy to hunt and fix old bugs, which would indicate a problem with the Person responsible for the schedules just ignoring the basic need for bug fixing time).

One Problem is that the Dev's are mostly not PLAYING the game, so they don't see what annoys the hell out of us Players every day.
I bet if one or two Dev's would be hardcore DOffers we already would have a Sector Space polish time on the schedule.

    so all in all
Season 6 is being worked on, the last pieces of content for Season 5 have just been delivered, i have no info of anything coming in the next weeks (no calendar, no tweet leaks... nada... all that comes out of dStahl's Ask Cryptic and Interviews is, S6 = Fleetbases ...and thats it, with a tiny bit of Gozer sprinkeld in that PvP gets a map or mode or something...)

what the OP is talking about looks pretty much like business as usual to me.

Story-driven content is the most important thing in the game. It should never be put on hold.

They've only done one Featured Episode in the last year. An HBO mini series would have more content. They are typically as long as a single season of one of their shows, around ten episodes. If you're suggesting something like a network mini-series (or movie-of-the-week) one or two missions long- I could be okay with that if they did one a quarter.

Yes we told that before once. In fact story driven content been on hold know for over a year, with expection of one FE and one KDF mission. Right after we told that after the next season was out we see many FE a year. Since then one came out. Sorry but it pretty clear where this game is going.

Grind feast, green lock box begin the only loot that drops and only content will be time gate TRIBBLE missions. Maybe there people that like that TRIBBLE. I do not.

I am just marking time till the GW2 beta event and then release. Because with the way this game going even the fact it trek is not enough to keep me interested.

Once upon a time this game was fun. I could play what I want, with who ever I want on my schedule. Relax and enjoy. Not anymore.

Why do you think i started this thread, its to illuminate the utter hypocrisy going on this MMO, the Devs im sure are nice people, but when you TRIBBLE around with a Trekkie's Star Trek don't be expecting us to "shut up and wait" like Picard said in Booby Trap TNG, people will leave in droves and really what will you have then? a hollowed shell of a MMO that will have few die hards in it. This literally soil Star Trek, not for just the game but the Franchise. Everytime they think of Trek its gonna be a lock box horror show .

imho the difference is... at least for me, now i got stuff TO DO...
before F2P i did not have ANYTHING to do in STO, i was bored and trolled the forums,
now i actually have reasons to swtich the game on, i call that an improvement.

    DOff System
    STFs
in the super rare event that an Event pops at the right time when i want to do one... i MIGHT even do that...

and if i want story, there is plenty of it in the Foundry
the only thing missing from the Foundry is that the invested time gives me the proper dilithium reward,
therefore the foundry is the last thing i want to play in STO, it is just not worth the time.

need to keep my dilithium and EC grind going...
and yepp since the lockboxes there is even a reason to get some more EC
(never cared about EC pre LockBoxes...)

Well, you're entitled to believe whatever you want.

I was not on this team before January, so I really don't know much about what went on before.

We have a small team, we cannot do everything at once. Someone decided that Fleet Starbases and Fleet Advancement were going to be what Season 6 is all about. That all takes time and effort, and we can't simultaneously do the S6 things AND a Featured Episode.
I have not heard specifics about what's going on after S6, but I'm sure the pendulum will swing back over to the "content" side of things.

Grinding is for clubs, hotels, and Orion girls, not MMOs, unless you plan losing your playerbase, and do they EVER listen to STOked or Massively because the community is not the only place where our view is being displayed. Your smarts Devs, READ, do we sound happy to you? Plus whatever happened to the hacking scandal thing? Still quiet.......

Also for the gripers, insulting the Devs and Mods and calling them names will not win you anypoints, and will not make them move any quicker. There are points to be made about lack of content, and the lock box issue, but being insulting only make you all to be small little people, when you have the opportunity to be so much more than yourselves and how this game develops and progresses.

Honestly, I'd like to see how much work you guys could get done with a crew the size of a well manned Starbucks

Ah, Winters, people are unemployed in this country, if they need more writers and tech people im sure people would bust down the door to work for a MMO. Plenty of people are talented in this area, an im sure with the revenue they generated from Lockboxes maybe they can hire more on there team? Hey what do i know im just an IT guy that happens to like Trek and stick around to force the issue up because it needs to be addressed and excuses are like starships, everyone has them

Well, I have no problem with one step at a time advancments. Fleet Starbases and PVP next would certainly be very important.

While I like the FE's, really, the foundry system provides much more content in short time. It just needs to be made more accessable for players.

However, STF's is stomething that I would really like to see added again at one point. PVE high end content at any time (not via teh caldender schdule) would be very welcome.

I hope they don't do as many featured episodes. I'd rather see them buff the foundry and focus on designing systems and creating assets and gameplay types (Like fleet starbases, group instanced content, new ships, etc).

Featured episodes are great, and I wish they could be created too, but the simple truth is I play the featured episodes once or twice (if the episodes reward is interesting I might grind it out more), but that's it.

Unless I start a new toon I doubt I'll ever play those Reman episodes again. Better if they spend that development energy on something with more replayability like the doff system, STF type stuff, PvP, stuff like that.

    Just my 2 cents.

You can't have it both ways.

The Cryptic devs have always communicated pretty freely with the community; but that ended up creating way more problems than it solved. Every time a plan had to be changed, for whatever reason, the forums would go ballistic; and people would spew venom about Cryptic and STO over the length and breadth of the internet.

They are not giving us the runaround, they are just trying to be a bit more careful about what they tell us; so that they can't be accused of breaking any more promises. This is probably a good thing.

As for the content; we've been asking for the stuff that's expected in season 6 for years. They are indulging us. That it would come at the cost of development time for story content was inevitable.

i ran a staff 6 for over 18 months, that performed at levels other units with twice as many staff, could not. They claim to have doubled their staff, so that should not be an issue. Oh and for the record, most modern military units do orders of magnitude more daily, will less than the staff they have, and they have a lot more at risk.

And on a side note, no one here insulted him, but you, insult them....

STO must be your first MMO. MMOs are all about grind; and one of the longest endgame 'grinds' was in WoW (You know, the MMO still with 10+ million subscribers after 8 years online.) back in WoW's heyday, Raiding was the rhing and these Raids were grinds on a scale STO has never seen. And pre=WoW, SOE's "Everquest' was more of a grind just to level (moreso then some more modern Asain MMO grindfests - and again that was back before WoW in EQ's heyday circa 1999-2003.)

If you believe MMOs aren't about grind, then you haven't played a lot of MMOs. Whether you like that type of gameplay or not is a different issue, but I've yet to play an MMO where the endgame ISN'T a grind of some sort.

Ok, so maybe I over reacted on the Taco Head thing, and I apologize for that, but considering how much bile I see virtually spat continously at the Mods and Devs, you can probably understand why. Anyways, what is this doing in Ten-Foward, we have our own insanity here. Shouldn't this be in the STO Discussion area?
