Star Trek: Infinite Space Dead in the Water... and what this means for STO

this game is nearly a year over due from it's summer 2011 launch, now I know that STO and STIS are two different games running on two wildly different source codes but one would expect that CBS would of retained the development rights to STIS and not GameForge...

so my question is this Might we see Cryptic/PWE utilizing the concept designs from Game forge in STO like they are currently doing/trying with the Perpetual Entertainment Inc./ P2 Entertainment concept art?

prime examples of the GameForge STIS art and signs I'm talking about are as follows. ( most if not all of this looks to of been done by the company The Light Works Digital Imagery

Vulcan ships ( granted these two are in game already, I figured I'd include them for show )

and not a TLWDI concept that I can tell but

No, I don't think that will be possible. They can't use from Startrek Armada either, for example.

Heck, Cryptic supposedly owns the rights to Perpetual preceding work, and they have used very little of that either.

Agreed, but we are starting to see some of the PE/P2 concepts make they're way into a favorable place in the minds of the devs, the 3D LCARS are showing up more and more... CBS retains all the rights to the project, and one would be amiss if they didn't try to find a way to recoup some of that investment by passing concept art and models to cryptic to use, and one would think put on the C-Store for us to buy... but I agree, the odds of it being in game with in the next two years is very unlikely.... I'm hoping that STO will be around for decades, a prime universe star trek game that lives and breaths...

your not the only one who wants the Ambassador Class... and Cryptic knows this it's a matter of time. but I fear it'll be a watched pot never boils thing... the more we poke the sleeping dingo, the more likely we are to get bit.

Not likely. the difference is that we bought the IP and assets from Perpetual.

However, anything we see can be used as reference in building whatever we do. So for instance, I don't think I've seen a Ferengi starbase before today, and IF I were to make one, it couldn't look just like that base, but that concept might inspire me in some way with my own design for a Ferengi base.

Gameforge's Licence and Cryptic's Licence are seperate. therefore i highly doubt Cryptic can use Gameforge's design assets.

I'm not sure what you have planned, or have built, but I personally liked the starbases and other structures from Star Trek Armada (specifically the Klingon and Romulan structures).

You could also work with the guys from Fleet Operations ( http://www.fleetops.net/ ), they might be willing to let you use their models or something, I dunno.

I know there's legal stuff involved, but at the very least, they could be inspiration ;)

Where did you find the wallpaper concept arts? All I saw on the website were the Unity 3d models

Greetings he who bears a yellow name... I am honored to have you grace this topic with your insight.
I'd expect as much on the stance of it wouldn't be exactly the same as the above concept art, but would be more similar in nature but with that Cryptic touchstone flair. What I was thinking was CBS would of already paid for the concept art but if the game faults and never makes it to launch ( something it looks as if it has ) all those art and design assists would revert back to CBS. I might be wrong in this. I'm just always on the look out to make this a better game, I've got a lot of time, money and emotions invested in this game and as sad as what looked to be a beautiful game won't be making, we can still look back upon the vision and concepts they had and take inspiration from their gallant efforts.

On the subject of a Ferangi starbase, I could see it in game as a gray market hub more so than that of Drazona Station, maybe as a port of call for Ferangi like a huge outlet mall/casino before reaching Ferenginar ( oh who I'd love to see the almost ever present planet-wide torrential rains and the gleaming Tower of Commerce at the heart of the Sacred Marketplace ( I know pipe dreams and possibly something from a season update far far off, but one can hope right )

p.s, Tumerboy might we be seeing a fully or partly custom interior for the Caitian Carrier any time soon. one envisions a three tiered bridge something along the lines of that seen on the proper odyssey class

true, but with most IPs that get Licensed out such as Star trek, the holder of the IP would have full rights to anything born of that licence even if the project never come to fruition. but I digress and refocus much like the PE/P2 concept art my main point here is the above work if not but an example for inspiration, reflection and study are things that would enrich this game even if it's at year or more off before we saw such things in game.

can't agree with you more so on that... currently most ship interiors have huge ceilings and very wide hallways that tend to feel out of place, except the bundled once like the TOS bridge and the Belfast, the scale and look of those two make things feel more like I'm in the universe and I hope to see more of that down the line.

( note: if all this comes off sounding like a rant, or trails off, forgive me... it's been a long night and working off something akin to five hours sleep over the past few days. )

The Ferengi starbase, is what I would imagine -should- be "Drozana Station", since it's run by a Ferengi. It's a bit sad really, that Drozana is nothing more than a "retextured K-7".

Should try playing birth of the federation game, its old but has some good ships for ferengi and cardy and other major races as well as bases.
