I agree with his assessment of the Time-Gated Vault. VERY MUCH SO.
I do as well, great job Chris expressing and representing the community's view of the Defra Invasion, the Vault Shuttle Event, and Utopia Planitia.
Here is a good case of where PWI needs to learn the difference between the Asian MMO market and the western MMO market. Now, it is fine if there is a "bonus" to the vault event that is scheduled like most other events, same for the Defra Ground Invasion. But to gate the content like that in such a content starved game...
I am remaining silver and each step Cryptic is convincing me not to resub to be part of their stable cash flow....
But seriously, could you somehow merge the two to help consolidate the conversation is one place?

Liked the Old KDF Headquarters backdrop.
Gozer said that only a tiny percentage of player PvP, and most of them are Fed.
KDF is a "PvP" faction, but are "poorly" represtented in the percentages in PvP.
Could we say that the KDF, as a PvP faction, is NOT working as intended?
If I'm understanding the comment at 26:48 correctly, there is never a proto tech drop in the STF optional loot bag. This really needs to be more widely publicized, with the amount of grief some players heap on people if the optional fails. Unless you're still missing the accolade for that STF, a failed optional is really not worth getting angry about.

You're understanding it correctly. Tech only drops in your individual bag, which is not effected by whether or not you pass the optional. Salvage can- and does- drop in the optional bag. If you pass the optional an optional bag drops with its own loot table rolls. Optional bags never roll from the loot table that tech is on.
Gozer has posted a thorough explanation at least twice. IMHO the problem is not with Cryptic getting the word out. The problem is that only a minority of players read the forums where the information is posted. I also think there is another problem, that you alluded too, that STOked didn't mention- accolade hunters that will either rage quit when the optional fails or rage in chat about how leet they are and what dumb noobs you are for failing the optional.
This is why I don't do pugs and why the "ignore" button is there.
i feel from the context of the conversation, that .. YES...
Gozer confirmed that only YOUR loot bag has the chance to 'roll' a prototype tech....
so with that said, the only reason to LEAVE an STF is if your just wanting to NOT have a random chance of getting the tech drop...
but i have to comment that, even tho he has now enlightened us to this fact, it still remains a 'lucky roll of the die'
this is just going to perpetuate the AFK/ not grouping/ doing nothing crowd/ etc... etc....
knowing that you dont have to do a single action in an STF, and you will still have the same 'ODDS' of getting the proto drop as those that worked their tails off ... well....
THATS JUST NOT RIGHT.........
I appriciate the concept of the 'roll of the die' I do, and that the Mk XII gear is mainly cosmetic... i get all that, I do...
BUT.....
when there is nothing requiring you to ACTUALLY play the STF, just be there.. and ROLL your DIE when its over.... there is no skill involved, and like you said about the timer.. there is no playing the game to its fullest, you just have to be present, and hey 'sorry you guys worked SOOOO hard' but i got my next tech drop.... thanks...
that is NOT right, or fair, or in any way promoting your game.....
with all that said, i guess i will start my saga of ELITE STF runs so that i can now have the latest 'NEW HOTNESS".......

I agree with his assessment of the Time-Gated Vault. VERY MUCH SO.
Agree definitely.
And hearing Gozer is now in charge of PVP map development and I guess all things PVP is an interesting plus especially after hearing that there was no one in charge of that aspect of the game until now. Which explains alot.
I liked the idea of a "horde" mode. I'd like to see a ground version of this too. I'd love to see that as a 1-5 man event (1-5 so you can solo it or just play with a couple of friends)
Starbases will not be simply social zones, there will be stuff to do there
Season 6 leaks from BranFlakes:
Current ETA is mid-June
Fleet Starbases
New ground invasion Tholians?
New 5 person events
New 20 person events (kicked off from your starbase)
Starbase construction missions
Initial PvP overhaul work
Updated Foundry toolset
Gozer's (paraphrasing) "Tough luck if you never get a MKXII Proto Tech drop" response was a tad offputting.
He indicated that the MKXII was intended to be there for people who really went the whole hog on STFs, investing hours upon hours in doing them, but then says that due to the mechanics involved (roll that percentile! have another bash at the STF slot machine!) you may never get them, even if you run thousands.
Great episode and interview. I'm very happy to hear that Gozer is now in charge of PvP and really looking forward to seeing the changes he makes. That said, while I was listening to the discussion about STF loot drops, it seems like such an obvious solution would be to put the super rare gear in the STF store for super high prices but *also* keep the random drops. That way people can still get lucky, but the incredibly unlucky people can also get their gear.
I agree with his assessment of the Time-Gated Vault. VERY MUCH SO.
Totally Agree
I've said it since the Defera Invasion first launched that Cryptic and STO are in no position to be dictating to players when they should be logging on to play.
This game has seen very little additional content from Cryptic in the last year, and the content we have received has either been; late (The 2800 featured series), Time-Restricted (Deferra Invasion, Vault Shuttle), or temporary/Intermittent (Winter wonderland, Utopia Planitia, Hearts and Minds). Even worse, is that content has been removed from the game! (DS9 Fleet Action, Terradome)
The Foundry has helped counter this lack of official content, with very talented members of the community making some great missions. But I can't help feeling this has allowed Cryptic to become complacent in releasing additional content (especially story focused content).
Yes, we all know Cryptic has been through major transitions and changes in the past year, hence the lack of content. If it weren't for the foundry, podcasts, patience of the community, and that this is a Star Trek game, this game would probably be dead. But this only emphasizes the fact that what content they can release should have maximum accessibility.
When you consider that there is now more entertainment available to us than one person could ever consume in their lifetime, and that we now live in an on-demand society. Where TiVo/Hulu/Neflix have freed us from TV scheduling, Podcasts have freed us from radio schedules. The only reason people now tune in at specific times is because they choose to.
That Cryptic feels it can now release content and dictate when we can play it, after the previous year, and the sheer number of on-demand alternatives available, is bordering on arrogance/stupidity.
T L D R; Cryptics' in no position to be dictating when content should be played. We live in an on-demand society, with entertainments in abundance.
PS; Revamped Fleet Actions, STFs, and Remastered Missions cannot be considered additional content, because you are taking X away to replace it with Y.
I found the insight into the STF drops very interesting and am guessing that although it sounds like the Maco, Omega and Honour Guard costumes will be coming to the cstore we'll still need to grind for existing Elite Commander accolades to get the costume upgrades on top of owning the three Mk XII bits.
I hope if this is the case you can give the costumes to Boffs as well.
I can see this game turning into Tron though with everyone and their mate running around in Maco gear.
Tholian ground mission sounds interesting and am really looking forward to the star bases aspect of the game.
PvP sounded really interesting as well, looking forward to seeing that take shape and over the moon about new foundry stuff.
I found the insight into the STF drops very interesting and am guessing that although it sounds like the Maco, Omega and Honour Guard costumes will be coming to the cstore
No, I think you misunderstood. When new variants get rotated in, the previous ones will appear in the STF gear store for chips instead of only prototype tech.
- Loot Table Answer did not make sense. I don't want you to grind a 1000, so random loot drop? I get not wanting people to do just one and then bam! Never play them again. But at least give us an alternative to getting them other than relying on random chance, which from a player perspective is a worse change than getting stuck by lightning at the same as a bus hits you and a shark bites off your shoulder. Which is slightly better than a lockbox ship don't know if it's really that bad, but the number of STF playthroughs people are going through just to get one is ridiculous. I don't know how many times I've heard this request either on the forums or in game. Nobody likes the random loot drop for Mark 12. Glad to hear it won't be like that forever though at least for the current sets, sad to hear it will applied to future sets. Yes people get them, but it being hit or miss to begin with is wrong. Period. End of story. I'd rather grind, than leave it up to chance, but your "Probability" means I get to grind AND leave it up to random chance.
Also you're right I might as well stick it out. And then just sit there and wait for it to end. The timer doesn't really reward good gameplay though since there is no reward for good gameplay still. The only thing you miss out on is the optional which is a loot bags, who's 3 (sometimes 2) contents are assigned by random chance, and then divided by 5 players.....wow that's so worth it!
- Glad to hear a Horde Mode is being worked on for season 6
I was amused when he claims that the new death penalty timer is meant to increase the fun. I don't find much fun in being penalized. I also don't find it fun to be in a team that's handicapped by a player that's on extended death. If I was into that kind of "fun" I would just pour hot wax on my eyeballs.
I've said it since the Defera Invasion first launched that Cryptic and STO are in no position to be dictating to players when they should be logging on to play.
I hate to say "Me, too!"
But ME, TOO!
I have not played the "Vault Shuttle mission" due to the scheduled times. I can't schedule a precise time to play! I have a busy life, like many people here! And for that reason, I want to play when *I* want to -- and can -- play.
Like changing the event times! Make them fluid! Allow us, the customers/players, to choose!
No, I think you misunderstood. When new variants get rotated in, the previous ones will appear in the STF gear store for chips instead of only prototype tech.
There are dozens of ways to make the mission's rewards more reasonably attainable while still maintaining their rarity. I won't go through them again because nobody at Cryptic cares, it's already how they like it.
But why bother? If you're just going to cheapen all the time and effort people spent mindlessly grinding for these items by throwing something else into the mission to replace them and bumping them down to "Store Status"?
Here's a thought. Finish "Into the Hive" and, instead of making us all feel like morons for wasting our lives on the Reward Lotto when all we had to do all this time was farm EDC, put these new variants as rewards for that!
It just seems shady and lazy to replace and degrade the prestige of one loot item with something new in the same content. Gimme new content, actually progress ANY story in this game that isn't an FE or brand new story string, and reward me with better loot for doing it.
PVP was the only part of this game not inline with the rest of the casino chance regime. With Gozer now at the helm, welcome in the new "to fire weapon 1, please put some money in slot b".
had a PROTOTYPE drop in the OPTIONAL................................
so I have to ask the question, is.....
A) Gozer just wrong about the statement that they only fall in YOUR loot bag, if so, being the OWNER of the loot system... I would find that concerning...
or......
is Gozer still correct in his reply that proto's only drop in YOUR loot bag, which therfore means that .... the loot system IS messed-up/broken/ bugged/ etc... not working correctly.. which also implies that Gozer being the OWNER of the loot system, and saying that it is working as intended is wrong......
now I'm not trying to make this personal, or any type of hate issue, but with all the debates about the loot system, reading over and over that the Devs say it is working fine, and then... watching STOked ( I love that show) and hearing Gozer himself say "prototype tech will only drop in YOUR loot bag, and has never been in the optional loot" , well this concerns me because it would seem there is very conflicting statements being out out to the public, and this is a very sensitive subject that will have alot of attention.
i have about a dozen thoughts about all of the great things I love about this game, but will save them for another thread, but...
can we PLEASE get some response to this issue, i dont need a full vamped story, just a simple response to clear up this confusion...
Gozer's (paraphrasing) "Tough luck if you never get a MKXII Proto Tech drop" response was a tad offputting.

That doesn't quite gel with the intended outcome.
And his attitude was horrible, he said well if you dont think its worth grinding for then dont, wow a dev telling players not to play, its not that people dont think there worth grinding for its just some people getting stuff right off while others may have to run 100s of them tough luck attitude is very sad. in other words he doesnt care so why should the comunity,

+1 Couldn't have put it better.
I'd also like to stress that though I do think the "STF Slot Machine" approach to Mk12 tech is understandable, I do like the idea of getting pieces as a reward for your 300th STF os a certain for example, or at least being able to trade in unwanted techs for ones you DO need. I understand it means people won't play certain maps as much if they find them harder, but as Gozer stated, the upgrade from Mk.11 to 12 is tiny, so why not? I only want the accolades, and it's driving me mad.
Nerd Rage Much? So no one paid attention when he said that the current Ml XII will be put in the regular store when the next set comes out?
You miss the whole point, some people have worked hard trying to get them and dont have them yet and he doesnt care and baiscly said it in words and his attitude in the interview, stating what we see andhear is not rage its facts
