It's a sad day for me, I have to say goodbye to STO

Its true, after playing a game that has entertained me so much for the last 3 years to the point that it would cause fights with my wife... I have to say goodbye. About a month ago we closed on our new home... good times. The place is great BUT, there is no good internet service. Sure I have sattetlite internet, now. But in no way am I able to play the game I love so much. I am actually heartbroken. It feels wierd putting that in here but lets face it, we all love Star Trek, and if it was somehow ripped out of your hands without warning I think this community would feel the same way I do. Some might even feel worse. I will however be keeping track of whats happening in game by the website and I will never for as long as I live delete the game from computer. So, with a heavy heart and relunctant hands to type this, so long STO. Thanks for the fun and all the sleep deprived nights. And the fights with my wife on what I care about more, her or STO, well, she is more important but you are a close as hell second.

Sorry to hear that. (And Congrats! (?)) Hopefully someone is busy running a fiber line to your front door right now . . .

I have a few friends in the same position- bad internet keeps them from playing this game and others online.

We can put a man on the moon but...

    Indeed.

For this guy is quitting for legitimate reasons (loss of internet).

    It is sad, though...

SOMEBODY IMPROVE THIS MAN'S INTERNET ASAP!!!!!

Indeed this is not the "I QUIT  " post, but a "Sorry, but 'The needs of the many (my family), outway the needs of the few (a game)".

I've done computer work for customers with Satellite internet, the latency is truly a game killer. That means no BF3 or any other FPS either. My condolences...

    /Signed on the no I quit lock/infraction.

I'm not sure of your situation, and I don't mean to sound like I am trying to advertise, but do you get VZW 4G service? (cable companies do not like to run cable on long roads with only like two houses on them, even if your area isn't so rural...)

You should be on the lookout for cellular broadband to become viable within the year or so, especially carriers providing LTE. Though I'm not sure if the lag would be any better.
    http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/06/verizon-homefusion-broadband/

Except for the patching... I would imagine transferring game data while playing wouldn't eclipse a monthly bandwidth limit. You could always have a friend mail you a copy of the game directory rar'ed up on a DVD or two when a monstrous patch hits.

Don't give up. Technology is advancing everywhere in every way rapidly. Wherever you are you may well have broadband options available before you know it. If so we'll all look forward to your return! :)

Ok just a thought I have the same problem. So I use a Verzion 4G MiFi and as long as I have 2 bar or better I can play. So just a thought even if the signal bad I can still play the Doff system it may help to keep you in since its free to play now

I thought about that but I was told it wouldn't work by verizon. On that note, we have shotty cell phone signal in our home. BUT... late, really late last night i decided to try and connect again and I actually got to mess around in sector space and ESD. The internet service I have told me STO wouldnt work. The latency issue. But it did. I am going to keep trying to play. What is aggravating is the DL usage limit. When updates come out I have DL during the alloted time where it doesn't impact my DL usage. That time is between 3 and 7 am. IDK, maybe not all is lost for me everyone. Oh and sorry if I broke any rules with this being an I quit post.

I hear that, I'm a fix PCs and I've seen the that even in decent sized suburbs there STILL some places you can't get high speed. I had a customer who was ONE MILE away from WiMAX and it was an an older part of town.

Perhaps there needs to be a text version of STO

    You are in a Cruiser
    >Go to Azha

You are in a cruiser in Azha
    >Scan for enemies

    3 Romulan Warbirds decloaking
    >Fire Phasers

    Enemy Firing
    >Emergency Power to Shields

All joking aside sorry to hear that. You should call any nearby ISPs alot to get them to run a line. Maybe get with your neighbors and send a joint letter. If they see the customers are there m-a-y-b-e the might run a line.

As for running updates, if you have a laptop, install STO and do the updates at the local library take the laptop home and copy the STO folder over.

*In reality, I have 0 powers on the forums, and very few in game. I cannot edit anyone's posts, close threads, or any of that fancy CS/GM stuff. Our Community Mods are more powerful than I or most other devs on these forums. The best I could do is send a link to Flakey, and tell him to do something about it.

Chrislove, where did you move? Are you doing some fancy penguin research on penguins in Antarctica or something!? <3 Penguins.

This is not an 'I QUIT' Thread...

It's a ' Very Reluctantly Saying Goodbye, Till I Get Better Internet Service in My New Home' Thread.

    Big Difference.

It's also a 'My Wife Won' Thread... ;)

When ya get decent service back... get the Mrs. hooked on the game....

Though that might ruin yer love-life.

I moved 15 minutes away from my last home to a small place called Harrisville, NY. A rural place. Not alot to do here so the researching penguins in Antartica sounds like fun lol

My thoughts exactly, it is, by definition a I quit thread, though a nice one. Rules are rules, enforce them equally or do not. However if you do not, then you must indeed realise that ANYTHING goes.
technicly yes but this is different most "i quits" are of ppl raging this is the opposite

Does not matter if it is different, if it fits the definition, it is against the rules. As I said above, Enforce them equally or, do not, but be prepared to face the reactions of that, action.

No Difference, its still an I quit thread, or more of the wife and new house is making me quit.
And that is still against the rules.

    Enforce the rules,

    or don't.

Either way, if you do , fine, every one knows where they stand, if you don't, then you get what you get.

Except that it's not really an 'I quit' thread.

It's an 'Reluctantly leaving' thread. It's the difference between telling your boss to stick it at a job you disliked and saying a fond farewell to old colleagues and leaving a job that you enjoyed.

Congratulations on your new home.. and good luck with that internet problem.

This is the reason the LTS is so awesome. STO will always be there waiting for you. Hopefully they'll eventually work out some "offline" ways for us to interact with the game, maybe tending doffs, or some other minigame like that. But I hope you get your internet issue solved before that.
