Well sounds like we are moving closer to a new TV series guys, but the go sign will be based on how well the new movie does. Id this a good thing or bad? Well I know I am going to see the new film, and I hope most of you do too, a new TV show is hanging in the balance. At least that's how it looks to me.

Could be good or bad. If the movie does as well as the last one, that'd bode well. And the first movie did well - usually the first sequel can coast on the success of the original - even if the first sequel is bad, the attendance doesn't take the hit until the second sequel, which has nothing to coast on.

On the other hand, using the movies as a barometer for interest is a bad sign for a prime universe show, since the whole point of the last movie was a comic style continuity reset. Also, the article is primarily talking about Paramount's interest in a new show, not CBS's, which seems even more like reboot universe.

If the fate of any new TV show is on the line based on how well performing the JJ movies are going well....lets say at least a few Star Trek comics pop up every once in awhile.

To be honest, I think we need more time to wait for a new show, just look at the gap between TOS and TNG. Right onw I think people are still on withdrawl in a sense, and just want a new show "now" for the sake of just having a new show. We shouldn't rush for things.

In all honesty I just want Enterprise to be finished, just push aside that holodeck last episode and start the Romulan - Earth War wit hthe NX-Refit class.

A lot of Star Trek episodes have been considerd non-canon or just pushed under the rug (a nice amount of Voyager episodes as an example).

Heh. This news is just like the big story I read yesterday about how the Colts said they're going to draft Andrew Luck first in the draft. Even though we all already knew this for months.

    ;)

    But thanks for sharing.

You know Superchum it's not lock ib stone for a new TV show, plus the face CBS isn't the one saying there might be one. If Paramount pushed to get out a new Trek Series, it just might be hooked to the JJ Verse, and dare I say it, this might be the TNG reboot whispered about a few weeks ago. If JJ is in the ear of the right people, I can see him taking control of any TV show being batted around, and putting his spin on whatever someone else comes up with.

If that's all that would be for for a new Trek show, then I never want another show again.

i would much much rather a prime timeline but id take a JJ one. I dont mind that much where the trek is set as long as i get some trek.

as for the tng reboot, that really was just spiner musing about things. nothing much more to it than that.

I would like to either see them fill in the gaps or just pick up where Nemesis left off, maybe ten or twenty years later.

My guess is that they don't want to do a "fill in the gaps" series because other than the period between Enterprise and TOS, there is too much canon for them to be fully creative.

I mean, I would love to see a series based on the Enterprise B or C, but they will never do it because they do not want to be locked-in to existing uniforms, ship design, and canon timeline.

They could do a Next Generation reboot by making Picard an admiral, ambassador, or retired and putting a new crew on the Enterprise E, with guest appearances by members of the old DS9, TNG, and VOY cast.

Since it would be set in the future, they could come up with all kinds of new uniforms and whatnot and set it before the Abrhams movie so they do not have to deal with the destruction of Romulus.

I honestly do not expect a new Trek show any time soon, successful movie or not. The thing holding back so many shows is production costs vs. expected returns. If a show doesn't get decent ratings night one and night two then it's canceled right then. People don't give them time to build an audience. I seriously doubt a show like TNG could have been made today. The set costs alone...
