I've run into this problem a few times where my captain just won't fire his weapon while on ground missions. As you can imagine its very annoying.....how do I fix this without leaving the mission.
I too have encountered this annoying bug, it makes it a pain when it kicks in seemingly at random.
Your best bet is attempt to finish the mission by controlling your BOFFs better.
Sometimes I just can't use secondry fire mode, sometimes I'm locked out of everything but movement. I've heard many others have encountered this problem and nobody seems to know the solution other than quit the game and log back in.
But on the off chance run a file verification next time you start up.
Do you have autofire turned on on ground, and if so which autofire setting are you using?
If no, then turn it on. As for the second part how the captain's attacks act depends on how it's autofire is set;
Toggled, Change Cancels will fire until you use another ability, like grenades, etc. at which point you simply have to hit one of your attack buttons to resume firing
Toggled, Non-combat Cancels will fire until you are out of combat, no matter what other key presses happen while in combat, you must trigger the initial attack though.
Toggled, Never Cancels by my experience seems to be broken, this setting will keep you from firing, Oddly enough it should do the exact opposite firing at any targeted enemy without any input whatsoever from the player, but it doesn't.
When using ranged weapons, only set the first 2 attacks to autofire, the 3rd which is a melee attack if set to autofire can start randomly attacking the air if in red alert mode.
Also, shooter mode disables ground autofire, and frankly rpg mode works better.
One other thing, Ground autofire does not work in ground based PVP, it's disable on purpose.
In my case I can't fire in shooter mode at all. Nothing works, tried different keybindings and settings which perhaps might influence it - nothing happens. Tried resetting keybindings to default, tried changing all autofire options, nothing. Is there any solution? Can I be doing smth. completely wrong?

So, every time we need to re - play in any thread, because in the case of STO forums people will always need to replay to old threads, since those bugs will be always there, we know that, we need to open antoher new thread??? (so, we will have double of posts) ow, lol, i hope cryptic changes the way they handle the forums, cuz , it is really really messy and stupid.
At leat, cryptic, CLOSE the threads that are already old, or "necro" like in ALL the forums of the internet, please. A thread with 1 month or 2 months old could never be called necro. But well, i dont think cryptic ever did the things correctly.
Yes this is a known bug. Happened to me in my older character and i needed to just delete it time ago. One of the numerous reasons i hate ground fights.
