Has EA Been Caught Stealing Designs From a Tabletop Game?
EA Phenomic's upcoming "social" take on Command & Conquer, Tiberium Alliances, hasn't gathered much good press. Probably because it looks about as enjoyable as punching yourself unconscious. It might be in line for a little more bad press, though, given the similarity between some of its unit designs and those found in tabletop war game Warhammer 40k...........

That said, I don't think their evaluation of the game is even remotely fair... the game is good, and very entertaining...
Good stuff. Anyone get appalled at how EA acts these days?
Not really... a certain company that creates a F2P SciFi MMO that I am playing does exactly the same thing.
Hah! Me, me! They've gotten nothing but bad press for the last week now. There was an article I read yesterday where employees were being ordered to hype the games. They were told to use their facebook and amazon identities to input positive reviews for all EA products.
Also, that C&C game looks pathetic. A lot of people though that the last game was bad, but this thing just looks like a remade Ikari Warriors to me. That was fun, 25 years ago.
And to be technical... Firefall is not a MMO unless you generalize.
1. EA is becoming more and more cancerous to the gaming industry, so trying to rip-off a game thinking no-one knows it (which is BS) sounds like daily routine for EA.
2. Everything seems to be a rip-off of 40K nowadays. Terran Marines = Space Marines, Protoss = Eldar and Zerg = Tyranids, the chainsaw part of the Lancer from Gears of War is a rip-off of 40K chainswords, the list is endless. Everyone thinks because its not a hugely exposed IP that they can rip it off and get away with it, thinking no-one will realise (which is, again, BS).
examples please.
The only game I play is STO... take a hint.
So which game has STO plagiarized? I mean since that was the thread was about.
I know the meaning of the word... Look at my location... I am flattered... I think?
But seriously, were your previous post an attempt to bring in the current lockbox shenanigans to this thread?
Ok sure... There are lockboxes in other games but I'm not sure if you can say they copied it. It's just a general feature(or something) that takes several different shapes in the various games they exist.
No... I try to not think about the lockboxes whenever I am in a thread that is not discussing them... I tend to loos my head otherwise...
But let me give you a tiny example of what I mean:

To just name one.
There are a lot of hammerhead-looking starships. I'd hardly say they ripped off Starcraft. The ship looks like a fat D7 with a larger hat.
It's not just the hammerhead... it's the ship as a whole... Thoose two are so alike, they might as well have been designed by the same person.
The placement of front lights for example
The ark with windows near the "BoP" on the Bortas
... and ...
Look at the location of the Hyperion bridge at the same time look at the BoP head location and shape.
If you can't see the obvious creative theft, theres something wrong with your eyes.
Otherwise, you might as well say theres alot of tanks with a cannon barrel up fron and secondary cannon turrets, and that the CnC tanks looks nothing like the WarHammer tanks.
Okay, I know of two types of ark. One is a chest that melts people when they open it, the other is a large boat filled with animals. Plus I have no idea what Bird of Prey you're talking about. I don't know the location of the Hyperion bridge, either.
The BoP... the one that detaches from the Bortasq (wich is the same model)... Ark... a curve... its at the "bottom" of the neck, close to the secondary hull.
*makes popcorn*
I'm sure Games Workshop have got the financial capital behind them to mount a very strong legal battle.
Hey! I'm one of those crazy people you know!
(Well it's hundreds of pounds I've spent, not hundreds of dollars)
There is a SLIGHT chance that it is purely a coincidence... (yea... not buying it either). But there is the chance that it's simply placeholders.
Knowing EA, it was intentional, but not that they have been caught red-handed, they will either change them, or buy the designs.
I see you must not have been exposed to much of the happenings surrounding Games Workshop, so allow me to enlighten you.
If these two legal departments cross swords, it will be the most titanic ****fight you could possibly imagine. GW is notoriously protective of its IP, and have sued people and companies for far less than this. Ol' John Riccitiello might well have kicked the proverbial Nob in the Gork and Mork, if you catch my drift.
Forcing me to relive that horrible memory that the Borta-spellingwhatever ship.
You a mean mean person you know that? *sits and sulks in a corner* MEANIE!
However I kinda get what you mean. Ships are similar but I'm not sure... The front is similar yes, but overall I'd call it a homage if anything.
Qu... Something or the other... Negh'Var variant. I'm seeing more of that ship than the Hyperion when looking at the Borta-spellingwhateverdontcare.
Oh and *smacks anazonda with a fl
