Yup, now is the time folks. If Barrack admits it, I will too. I have to say that I, like Obama, find Nyota Uhura from the original series to be very attractive. She was a very beautiful person, and I'm sure she still is. Also, don't forget what she represented. She wasn't cast as a the typical stay-at-home, only cook and wash clothes female; in fact, she was the opposite-highly intelligent (expert linguist), sexy, and very assertive. She was a very good role model for both guys and gals in the 60's and 70's. It doesn't surprise me that Martin Luther King Jr. told her to continue on the show when she was thinking about leaving it because she felt her character had been moved to more of a minor role by the end of the 1rst season's first run. She represented a lot more than just simply a character on a show. She was an inspiration to a lot of women, especially African American women. I'm pretty sure she, if the not first, was one of the first African American women to appear on an American t.v. series in a position of high authority. She was a Lieutenant and was chief communications officer, nothing to sneeze at. If you were some ensign linguist scrub who got your klingon vowels wrong, she made you wash the enterprise's dishes until you learned them correctly. Yeah, that's right..you better learn your Klingon abc's if you're going to be on my communication team. Anyways, so yeah. If you ever had a crush on Uhura or any other star-trek character, please share. I won't judge you, and I ask that everyone else be as respectful as possible. Also, please don't bring any politics into this.

Edit: I forgot to add that Nichelle Nichols has also been witness to President Obama officially saying that he is a trekker.

One last thing. Do you notice how well Obama does the Vulcan live long and prosper hand sign? I have this strange feeling that Tuvok narrowly beat Barrack when actors were auditioning for the role of the Vulcan Lt. aboard voyager.

And to give her character more credit: Uhura was the one who thought of tracking Chang's BOP by sensing the Ionized Gas it was emitting in the 6th Star Trek Movie. In her words:

"Ships got to have a tailpipe."

I saw this picture yesterday afternoon, and I've got to admit it made me smile. Still does. Such a great moment for both of them, really. :)

But a crush on Nichelle Nichols? Well, I can't speak to the age of everyone else around here, but she's a little before my time. Having said that, what I do have for her is an incredible amount of respect. Not because of what she represents in terms of social change, but just because of how classy she has managed to remain from Star Trek to present.

Anything she may represent on social agendas is the product of public perception, but what is entirely to her credit alone, is grace. A great many women today could learn from the poise in how she holds herself, and I utterly admire her for that. :)

Omg, so true! I had totally forgotten about that.

Oh, and Koppenflak. I'm only in my 20's but I can still appreciate how attractive of a woman she was in her day. Marylin Monroe was also stunning, but Uhura was, as you say, much more graceful.

You know, that's just the thing. I am guilty of ogling mindlessly at certain women as much as the next guy - but as attractive as Nichols was (and still, in her own way, is) the thing that strikes me most is how little I notice it. And I mean that in the very best of ways. :)

Alright, that's legit. Everybody is different, and I respect that :D.

Seems to me that her and kirk shared the first interacial kiss on tv or maybe network tv. Groundbreaking for the time.
