probable: The Enterprise and all characters involved will have some deep dark history, the Federation have a nasty aura and by the mid-season things are dirty and grimy. Everything will be dirty.
I honestly hope they don't try to remake it. I grew up with the TOS films and watched every episode of TNG. Overall, TNG is my favorite of the Star Trek series. I can live with the changes they're making for the blu-ray sets. I love the story and drama of the early seasons, but the visual effects look incredibly and jarring now.
If they were to remake the series- Picard should be younger. It never made much sense to me for someone so old to be commanding a mission that was supposed to be so long.
Welsey should be gone all together. Along with all the other families and kids. I never liked the "generation ship" idea either.
The borg were cool in the beginning, but I couldn't stand the way they became easy to beat villain of the week.
If they are brought back they need to be terrifying the way they're supposed to be.

Picard wasn´t that old. It takes time to advance through the ranks you know. Also people get a lot older in Star Trek and stay healthy and fit a lot longer.
I don´t see why a TNG remake would be needed in any way. The show was absolutely fine as it was.

Definitely agree.. They should how ever start a new project, new ship, captain, etc. Although I am not a hardcore Trekkie and dont know enough lore, have always loved the TMP era, so something that was a cross over between TNG and TMP would be good. Personal opinion it would create good stories with the FED Klingon peace treat and how that could be played as a kind of knife edge will they wont they plus the Romulans in the back ground. Also would mean sill lots of space still left to explore and discovery of the Cardassians (only remember on TNG episode when they were at war with Bajor) and other races. Also think of the ships, Excelsior, Constitution, and possibly every ones fav the Ambassador.
and the music could be the title sequence from ST2 the wrath of khan.. have always loved that music
dont bother with the remake but how about Star Trek Titan covering the 20+ years between TNG (after the end of DS9 and Voyagers return) to a rough approximation of the STO time frame based on the STO novel time line.
that would cover:
- Rikers Captaincy of the Titan (well yes clearly)
- Ro Larens rise from captain of the Orb of Peace to head of security on DS9
- Datas rebirth and captaincy of the Enterprise E (and why Enterprise is still MIA)
- Captain Picards retirement and marriage to Beverly Crusher
- The launch of the Pasteur under Captain Beverly Picard
- The Riker and Picard children and there interaction
- Wesley Crusher/Picards starfleet career
- Jake Sisko's interactions with many of the characters from the myriad Trek series
and ALL of this under the backdrop of the early and mid stages of the Undine war
As trek fans can you honestly say you wouldn't watch this?
- Datas rebirth and captaincy of the Enterprise E (and why Enterprise is still MIA)
Not going to happen because Brent Spiner have put on the years and Data was even killed because he wanted out since androids dont age.
I wish people stop asking for more TNG, it ended too long ago and the actors have aged , a remake with probably be all "JJ Trek" like and I wish people leave things alone, its over and retrying to recapture those days will simply be a disappointment.
If they want to do a new series, they have the "lost years" from Enterprise-B to Enterprise-D ... plenty to work with new people.
Picard wasn´t that old. It takes time to advance through the ranks you know. Also people get a lot older in Star Trek and stay healthy and fit a lot longer.
I don´t see why a TNG remake would be needed in any way. The show was absolutely fine as it was.
Picard would have been 59 when he took command of the Enterprise-D, having been in Starfleet for nearly 40 years. It may be true that people live longer and can stay in Starfleet for longer amounts of time before you hit terminal rank like most navies. But, the Enterprise-D was supposed to have been on it's mission for longer than the 5 years of the original Enterprise. So if you start out with an older Captain, s/he isn't going to be a spring chicken when the mission is over. It's nit picky I know.
I do agree that the show doesn't need to be remade.
I mentioned this in the Brent Spiner....thread about a possible way they can continue star trek.
"Before they do a new series I think they should do another TNG movie. Because 1. storyvise nemesis was a remake of wrath khan everything else was great maybe the acting could have been better, 2. I heard someone that even thought they left an opening they were planning to make another TNG movie this way the TNG crew can have a true farwell. 3. The movie could tie in for a new series, Post Voyager/Nemesis era, like a year of two after nemesis. The new series should go back to the roots of star trek, tos series/moives and tng/ds9/voy style. Have it set on the Entperprise E no new ships. I think its early to have a new enterprise. Introduce a new crew which take over the orignal TNG crew also this way since the orignal crew are getting older they can make speical apperances. This way it will keep the old fans interested and bring in a new auidences to the franchise. I said this once I'll keep on saying it .
There is so much they can do without a reboot. The reboot movie is great I liked it and can't wait for the next one but as a old fan of star trek the future of reboots should not last long. It was to breath new life into the franchise and st09 did a great job. "

A remake/reboot of TNG would have new actors playing the old roles. Combine that with the magic of CGI and Data no longer ages. None of the old cast would be back in the primary role. All new actors. VIola ... remake possible.
Here's the thing to consider ... no matter how much anyone wants a series shoehorned into a specific time period ... Hollywood is likely to do one of two things:
1- Remake old material. It's cheap easy and very Hollywood. You have an instant audience (all the old fans) and the potential to have new fans jump on board. Hollywood is enthralled with that marketing hook time and time again.
2- Make a new series that is not tied into canon as tightly as most of you would like. It's cheaper, easier and much more alluring to writers who don't have their creativity hampered by nit picky details.
CGI is expensive, having a CGI actor along with real actors is going to be very expensive and we also seen how that worked in the Star Wars prequels ... it looks wrong and not uncanny valley wrong, it just looks wrong.
Also whats the point? if you are doing with everyone new why it have to be a TNG reboot instead of something new? Its only cashing on the TNG name and we all see were attempts at doing so lead us.
Also "Nemesis was a remake of Wrath Khan"? ... no, Nemesis is a terrible movie and as one would say there are some similarities, the most obvious one is they are both Star Trek movies, there are too many differences (funny how Khan and Kirk actually fought in the TV series but never actually meet in person on the movie were its really a mental game, unlike ACTION HERO PICARD!) and the acting would not be the biggest complain I have about that movie, I would start with the script .. heck I almost feel like linking to Red Letter Media, wait I do that ...

Not going to happen because Brent Spiner have put on the years and Data was even killed because he wanted out since androids dont age.
.
ok i snipped you there simply because of a known canon error that many including the good Mr Spiner seem to have forgotten. Data was NOT the only Soong type android in the TNG time frame and i dont mean Lore of B4 but rather the often forgotten android of Dr Juliana Tainer aka Data (and presumably the other androids) "mother". http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Juliana_Tainer
It was speculated not only in the episode that though the Tainer droid was somewhat more advanced its basic aging protocols were present in Data but at a much less accelerated level, this allowed him to grow Facial hair and presumably other body hair at a rate comparable to the human norm and even have his hair grey somewhat with age. We can take from this that the other basic aging systems would be at least available withing both Lore and B4's physical body's at the very least due to the on screen quote " ...the only thing Dr Soong ever struggled with was the mind, a living positronic brain, after all everything else a human body does is rather simplistic in comparison" so we can presume the physical issues with creating a human replication were overcome quite early on.
Now even with this in mind during the events of (the novel) Immortal Coil we establish that Juliana eventually did seem to die in the year 2374, only to be reactivated with full knowledge of who and what she was by the immortal known as Flint and is potentially still active even now with the same level of control of her aging process as Data.
So could Spiner play Data again? yes he could,During the events of "All good things" the older Data had taken a role at Starfleet Academy and had suitably "Aged" himself with a few wrinkles and a streak of grey hair in order to give himself a more respectable and mature look to better fit in with his now somewhat older peers. With that established in hard canon as possible and given what was recently done in Tron to de-age certain actors digitally as well as basic post production Spiner could quite easily take on the guise of old yellow eyes once again with little to no hiccup to cannon.
Basically it is a remake of Wrath of Khan, yes there are some differences but most of it is like wrath of khan.
Wrath of Khan is and always will be based on Moby TRIBBLE (minus the boring whaling information) hence all the references. Probably why I like it so much ( I always loved that book). What we need is a new angle the TMP to TNG era gives a little more depth however an after Nemesis era would open up to more possibilities, as it can then dictate rather than follow cannon. however personally being a STO fan for me, the TMP to TNG era gives good story scope as I said in my previous post after ST VI: The Undiscovered Country, there is lot of potential for the knife edge of how the peace treaty pans out in the early years, with the possibility of Romulan intervention to mix things up a long with the discovery of other worlds.
Again i admit I am no Hardcore Trekkie but Im sure there was a voyager episode here Janeway wanted to be in the TMP era as it was more fun....
CGI is expensive, having a CGI actor along with real actors is going to be very expensive and we also seen how that worked in the Star Wars prequels ... it looks wrong and not uncanny valley wrong, it just looks wrong.
CGI effects aren't all that expensive in 2012. I'm suggesting instead of white face paint, better effects to mask any aging a Data character would experience.
Also whats the point? if you are doing with everyone new why it have to be a TNG reboot instead of something new?
Because as stated Hollywood trusts remakes with bankable audiences more than they do new things.
Not going to happen because Brent Spiner have put on the years and Data was even killed because he wanted out since androids dont age.

If they want to do a new series, they have the "lost years" from Enterprise-B to Enterprise-D ... plenty to work with new people.
Data could either have decided to go for an older appearance to less distress those aging around him, or could have created a new organic (and thus subject to aging) body to be more 'human.'
That wouldn't be a remake though, but truly the 'next' generation.
I think the most likely remake would be Star Trek: The Musical
CGI effects aren't all that expensive in 2012. I'm suggesting instead of white face paint, better effects to mask any aging a Data character would experience.
They are expensive enough to have pretty much started this Sci Fic dry season, those series are rarely OK because of costs and rarely go past their first and only season.
This have to do with not only the per-episode cost but also alternatives, it just cheaper to go around with a normal set and even cheaper with a reality show.
Because as stated Hollywood trusts remakes with bankable audiences more than they do new things.
Pretty much, they think they have a "assured audience" when they will not, I like The Poseidon Adventure but never watched the remake.

4) Data and spock sacrifies themselves to save the crew.
5) Data is alive in B4, spock is alive in Mckoy.
6) Both left and opening at the end.
I grew up watching TNG and even the remote possibility that they would consider doing a reboot/remake of it makes me want to punch someone in the head. TNG just like TOS were great in the time period they were made. Why anyone in their right mind would think that would work today is beyond me. The Federation already learnt their lession that diplomacy above all else doesn't exactly work. Borg,Dominion,Romulans,Remans...hell the only ones that haven't picked at the federations near dead carcass are the tribbles.
The Ent-E is MIA and a new experimental ship (NOT THE FUGLY SPACE WHALE Odyssey) is commissioned and tasked with discovering what happened to the Ent-E when a surprise attack cripples the starfleet deep within federation space. Queue new enemies, new crew, new ship, skip the space whale, and the federation finally goes on the more offensive side of trying to stop this new threat. Old treaties are thrown out the window as surviving yet another assault become predominant and old and new alliances alike are formed. Nothing will ever be the same again, but with a little luck a new golden age of the federation could be on the horizon if they can survive.
"nothing can be created without something first being destroyed"
If you skipped out the 95% of lore reshaping the JJ Star Trek movie did have moments where it returned to the defense/attack first, make peace second which was so much a part of the original series, except for TNG that dynamic was attempted again and again and mostly failed...Enterprise can close, but Bakula and UPN only.....WHY??!!
Starfleet isn't military:
1) Military command structure
2) M.A.C.O.S.
3) Assault Rifle Phasers
4) Ships still designed with military structuring (IE: bridge highest, forward position)
5) The Mako (sp?) from Nemisis, rear facing phaser turret
6) whatever else I'm forgetting.
Point is time for a new show set in future/present not another filler or remake/reboot/prequel, new crew, having a new advanced ship (and not the enterprise for once being the most advanced) searching for the flagship/pride of the fleet could bring a very unique storyline to a series. Yes Voyager went missing but really it's not exactly like Voyager was one of the most important parts of all of starfleet and the federation.
