Thanks very much OP for creating this thread - was an honour to meet you aboard the friendly space pirate's IKS Targ's Breath yesterday!

This profile goes with me to all Fleet forums I've joined, as part of my personal introduction, in the hope that someone will read and be interested in a bit of post-Victorian era science fiction.

The character Fredagonde Valmy does indeed appear in turn-of-the-century SF stories, the time when stories circulated by H G Wells etc were popular. She is a main character in a few Mirror Universe like stories.

I can distribute some ebooks (legally free now) if anyone has the same interest in old school scifi. The science may be outdated but the writing quality is, to me, superior to most present-day writings.

Be warned that this is content being regularly updated with the latest in-game experiences of this character and she does have a history of not being able to meld well with the Federation's culture for some reason. In fanfiction collaborative writing or roleplaying, she usually has a high level of suspicion directed at her person. That or people wonder who is that person spouting all the tactical doctrine stuff.

    Without further ado...

This is a discussion post for my primary character in STO, Fredegonde Valmy.

It is customary for me to write minor fanfictions as well as organize quality teamplay using elite level episode replays.

These also result in youtube video productions if the team functions to spec. So you can see even if I am not in an active roleplaying community, I adapt RP to serve an important gameplay purpose of creating strong 5-man teams, improving communications and optimizing starship builds.

As Freda is my full time character, this generally serves as my introductory thread as well.

Please note that the in-game bio viewed by other players (as copied at the bottom of this post) is intended to be deceptive! This woman has a lot of secrets and it's up to you to learn about her through RP.

    If you dare.

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

My current and active Federation character is more 'true to life' and far more unique than yet another Starfleet officer. - she is part of an elitist group that broke off from the Federation during the colonial expansions in the period - elitist, because they regard Earth's "Utopian" society as dangerous (in terms of retarding creativity and encouraging decadence) and unequitable (in terms of not respecting societal diversity and rewards for success).

Certain organizations have also suspected more than a bit of lineage to the extinct "Augments" of the Federation's dark 23rd Century history, although to date none have sought to find out the truth from her personally partly due to her professionalism and commitment to the Federation's effort to secure new allies and triumph against rapidly evolving aggressor forces.

    BEFORE 2409

Not too long ago, entire flotillas of privately owned interstellar traders were trying to flee Klingon controlled space before the declaration of war. Mysteriously, many ships were lost to marauders and Orion pirates during transit; preoccupied with securing Starbase 24 from hostile attack, Starfleet could nary spare a deep space patrol vessel to safeguard our deep space merchants as they were left to their own means. The Klingons knew that - and actively marketed Letters of Marque for enterprising privateers to raid and plunder what they could from Federation trade ships and colonies.

Unknown and unappreciated, "turncoats" like Fredegonde Valmy have to fight for their very right of existence between Klingon aggression, Orion piracy and Ferengi corruption that seek to exploit what few assets of her family that survived the sudden and vicious marauders' onslaught.

She made a very difficult decision to apply for political asylum with the Federation, going directly against her family's mandate and vision for a society of free humans ruled by a "normal" socialist-republican government just like in Earth's rich corporate history in the XXI Century.

    PERSONALITY

Never liked for her haughty and aloof "noble" attitude (her family acted more like feudal warlords going toe to toe with Orion factions and Klingon aggressors since 2250), Freda never became a Starfleet Commissioned Officer but rather was, by her own 'social engineering', assigned to support the Federation Diplomatic Corps in extra-terrestrial negotiations that demanded both intimate knowledge of Alpha and Beta Quadrant inter-species dealings, but also a firm, ruthless hand in securing the Federations present and future interests.

Most notably, Ms Valmy was responsible for her bold acquisition of genetically engineered aeroponics crops and transferring a significant quantity of which to Cardassia Prime, giving a healthy and much needed boost to the failing reconstruction efforts that Starfleet had inadverdently neglected thanks to the threat of total war on multiple fronts.

    ARK ROYAL BATTLEGROUP

While the 2nd Fleet continues to clash with the Klingon Empire over the ruins of Starbase 24, and Special Task Forces continue to launch incursions into Gamma Orionis in yet another Sacrifice of Angels, frontline diplomats like Ms Valmy play a crucial role in keeping things together in the Home Front.

Recent events have, however, created a rare opportunity for her to undo the tremendous damage her arrogant ancestors had caused to Federation colonization efforts in the Pi Canis and Eta Eridani sectors.

Due to her past dealings with foreign powers, she has an uncanny ability to analyze past and future military developments and devised an effective counter to the overwhelmingly superior Romulan D'Deridex Warbird by the implementation of superior 'Network Centric Warfare' doctrine and also assisting in the development of Starfleet's own "Tetryon Defender" escort battlecruiser, the Ark Royal.

Intended to safeguard valuable freight convoys and ensure freedom of interstellar navigation, the Tetryon Defender is one project which Ms Valmy holds dear, as it indirectly avenges the passing of her family...

It is with this relationship of mutual need that Starfleet can afford to keep an "enemy of the state" in their ranks, no doubt on a very tight leash, in exchange for Freda's survival. She had made many enemies during her dealings with pirates and brigands, and while she may never enjoy the company of her fellow Federation colleagues, she fears most of all her eventual fate if she had not secured employment in the FDC... namely, that of a female slave under her Orion mistresses, to be bartered, used, and never to see the stars again.

A fate no human would ever choose to endure, even under pain of death.

    APPEARANCE

I specially wrote the above story from scratch right here - call it exclusive, because none of my other RPers ever got this far.

In game, Ms Valmy's bio is much more innocent but also rather curious, have a look:

Her dark hair fell in disorder over her flushed cheeks, and her eyes were sparkling with pleasure. Brunette, beautiful, charming, she had a score of hearts to play with.

As the niece of the Federation Ambassador, Mademoiselle Valmy had the entry to the upper tier of society. The Ambassador was away on leave, and she had appeared during his absence, but she had been accepted unquestionably at the Embassy, where she had taken up her quarters, explaining--as the Ambassador confirmed by cable--that she had sailed under a misconception as to the date of his leave...

    IN-GAME PROFILE

As the 25th Century descendant of a family that can be traced back to European nobility of the Middle Ages, Ms. Valmy is often regarded as decidedly cold and aloof in a time where equality of all forms had been the norm since the founding of the United Federation of Planets.

Unwilling to risk 'degradation' of their social status, the Valmy family had, two centuries ago, decided to leave the Federation completely and seek to earn their name amongst the stars as interstellar traders, using their ample wealth and diplomatic influence to profit from, subdue and conquer a variety of minor species almost at will.

Their reputation amongst the almost-feudal culture of spacefaring tribes and raider cultures were so much that the Federation had, for a time, had considered marking the Valmy family as brigands and outlaws.

Events of the late 24th Century however, had put an end to the Valmy family's untouchable position as an independent interstellar power. With war looming on the horizon, their profitable relationship with the Orion Syndicates and Klingon empire came to a sudden end; other Federation traders fared no better as their vessels were siezed or even destroyed outright by raiders, and the surviving members of the Family were forced to seek refuge in the Federation they once despised...

    TRIVIA

Ms Valmy appeared as a recurring character in a 1930s sci fi magazine. Not the pulp fiction kind, but quality on par with the likes of HG Wells and other famous authors of the period. Her personality is based off typical Victorian era imperialism.

She is currently active as a Diplomatic Attache of the Federation Diplomatic Corps and under heavy suspicion due to her possible human separatist ("Augment") lineage. She was involved in a military espionage and research project designed to counter the threat of the new Romulan D'Deridex Defender battleship.

Freda has also survived a few run ins with members of Section 31 - Starfleet's 'black' internal security agency. Forced to endure various compromises to privacy and random interrogations, her complaints to the Fleet Council were mysteriously never heard. (This happened in a Fleet I was in.)
