Greetings!

I've been away from the game for well over a year now. When I first joined, there seemed to be a few fleets dedicated to roleplaying whom I enjoyed a brief, if fun time with. Now that I want to give the free STO a try, I wonder if there are still any roleplaying fleets around, and if they are recruiting?

I hope to hear some good news, but realy any news will do! If there's a fleet out there recruting more roleplayers, I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers!

    Welcome back.

IF I were either a Federation race OR a friend of the Federation; I'd look up the United Britanian Fleet.

BUT, I'm neither so I won't. anyway, if I did anything nice for someone it would ruin my reputation as a Cardassian antagonist.

    Ofcourse, I understand.

Might TOS +30 have a website or forum post somewhere?I found United Britannia but not the TOS's.

    ...For intelligence purposes, ofcourse..

I've tried virtually all the recommended RP fleets and none of them are suitable, sadly (yes I tried out the above recommendations too), so I write my own fanfics now.

At least, I am in control of my own quality standards and do not have to endure senseless authoring controls.

I've also just about given up looking for serious players, for the record. The invitations -never- come my way, anyway.

    Examples of my writeups:

    Countering the D'Deridex Defender

My STO roleplaying biography, which is updated as my character progresses through the STO universe (in game), makes friends, encounters enemies (both in and out the Federation)

As for Federation RP, I collaborate with the kind Cardassian here, to help rebuild his devastated home planet. *Glares sternly*

You're a part of the Federation now, like it or not! Did you read the reports in "Path to 2409"? You were within 3 years of total economic collapse if not for my sourcing "forbidden" Klingon research!

Sorry, just some typical post-war Cardassian RP :)

Thank you for the replies, both of you. I'l have to have a look!

And Carmenara, I get the distinct impression you posted either to advertise, or in hopes of finding another person to roleplay with. ;)

..If it's the latter, do feel free to send me a PM. I am always eager to make new friends!

    You mind reader.

I'll love to find a guild with you as well. but I'll post a few words of warning there are some RP advertised fleets who do little RP at all or even prosecute writers actively.

Let's see if with my expertise you can avoid all that I've went through. pm to follow.

I'm going to be honest..(yeah I know, I'm Cardassian and lying is a skill) If you truly want a good role play. Something as in depth as old school as you can get. Carmenara is it.

Mine are more Cardassian based and not as deep into military tactics, but I'm getting better.

Other fleet RPs are eitehr hanging out in a space dock or shunned/disrespected by fleet members. (Remember there is always the exception to the rule).

I'm not a regular RP master, I run RPs in spurts when I feel like it. No advertisement there.

Other fleet RPs are eitehr hanging out in a space dock or shunned/disrespected by fleet members. (Remember there is always the exception to the rule).

And between that and having to wait weeks/months to even get a single reply from 'established' RP guilds, roleplaying in STO exists not in the stigma of pen and paper but in its penultimate form of earning command authority to designate team roles in elite STFs and having your task force play said roles out automatically and without fuss to secure joint victory.

    Think of it this way.

You can spend hours writing fanfictions that will be ignored and unappreciated because there are established RP guilds.

Or you can spend the same time building bonds and teaching the lost skills of 'tactical initiative' to real persons and get them to not just charge at the closest enemy target... but act like actual ship captains to work together under unified command.

I say roleplaying in the traditional sense is slightly obsolete given today's fast-moving naval operations tempo (in STO).

I also say it's not my fault that certain established guilds are too resistant to change to embrace the art of translating real-world officership into in-game success supported by semi-professional, volunteer-created documentation for future training purposes.

It's also a fact that my PuG STF crew in actual fact 'roleplays' better than a lot of RP guilds.

We have trust, we have dedication to a joint cause and we have tactical roles not just based on the archaic healer/tank/archer but completely redefined to act in concert with multi-role mission doctrine as demanded by real-world military operations today and in the future. They don't realize that implementing realistic and functional ship to ship comms is in a way roleplaying, and they are most surprised!

RPing is educational, and effective as a means of team building, just as it is used in real world militaries. Sadly, you won't see a lot of people using RP as a tool - it takes real world qualification or experience to embrace such.

It also does not require formal guilds for success... infact, said guilds can be detrimental to RP quality by restricting the means of expression and communication, while resorting to hate to 'keep people in line'. (And you thought Soviet-era leadership was gone with the Berlin Wall, think again!)

It's never about sitting around typing text. Starship Captains don't earn their reputation socializing at Quark's.
