Massively's STO Columnist Terilynn Shull recently visited Cryptic Studios to talk to the team. In this week's Captain's Log entry, she writes about her interview with Lead Designer Al rivera.
"We then talked briefly about the statement he made about keeping "re-playability" a focus of much of the upcoming content."
On the topic of replayability, could someone at Cryptic acknowledge that you know about this bug:
- KDF players cannot reply "Second Wave" (initial playthrough works, just not subsequent replays)

Thanks!
QA is looking into this and hopes to have a fix in as soon as possible. To confirm, you have completed the mission before it, right? In the standard mission progression?

Update: KDF players should now be able to play Second Wave without a problem Let me know if you are still seeing an issue.
I do hope the feds do not get a carrier, its not their game style it is a klingon game style. Give the feds a more fed type of unique ship instead of a war ship like a carrier. Something like a supped up science class or something.

Carriers are neither Fed nor Klink style. There's never been a Trek episode where you ever saw a Fed or Klink carrier - in fact I think we've only ever seen Fed fighters in canon. Klink carriers are STO soft canon. As such there's no reason why Feds can't likewise have such a soft canon addition.
I don't want to turn this thread into another carrier debate, but the idea that they're a canon Klink thing simply because STO put them in for Klinks is foolish. Carriers are not a canon anything, for Feds or Klinks.

And then there is the fact that the Akira class was actually designed as a carrier.

Due to the limited time reward I can sadly say after getting that shard of the orb on every character I never really want to play these again thats how burned out these limited time rewards make you feel after you have to do them on so many characters in a tight window.
And then there is the fact that the Akira class was actually designed as a carrier.
Canon consists of what we actually see in the 726 episodes and 11 movies. Not what people say about it after the fact, or what's in novels or other soft canon sources. The Akira is seen 15 times in canon, and none of them had it as a carrier.

So, you would look at the Big E CVN 65 and say "unless I see an aircraft take off, it's not a carrier."?

Huh? We already know that those ships are aircraft carriers. If someone had stated in an episode that the Akira was a carrier, than it's a carrier. It wasn't stated or implied in anyway, hence it's not canon.
However, there's also nothing to guarantee that it's NOT a carrier. So it's up to us, Cryptic and CBS to determine which ships, if any, are considered carriers.

I'm talking about the physical arrangement of the ship. What other purpose would it have for that many large shuttle bay doors? Especially ones that are on the same deck and directly opposite each other on the hull (implying a pass-through massive internal bay). Why do people so easily accept the existence of the Aeroshuttle on the Intrepid but not the inherent carrier nature of the Akira's design?
What about a broadside based picket ship for a unique spin and new gameplay style? I've got a recent thread on the subject (from 3/23/2012) with firing arc diagrams and weapon layouts.
I really don't care to take away the exclusivity of the carrier from the KDF.
A bit disappointing there were no photos of the offices? I think it would put a lot more in perspective for some people,
He has hopes of creating additional daily missions on Bajor or altering current missions into dailies in order to bring players to Bajor more often. He also seemed very eager to get the map and other recent assets into the Foundry as soon as possible, though he just couldn't comment as to when that might occur.
At last! someone has woken up! There is no reason to revisit a lot of places features in the game. We need a lot more dailies to keep everyone busy.

pretty much agree, and I have no problem with a caitian carrier being in the game.

Rivera noted that the new Featured Episode series The 2800 has also received high praise. He realizes that many people have divergent tastes when it comes to gameplay, and he's able to see the dissent from players who didn't like the less-combat-focused missions on Bajor, but he's pleased at the number of players who did appreciate it.
He did say he was surprised at the lack of feedback on The 2800's focus on the individual player. He was proud about delivering a more personal story-driven experience for the players, who only once during the entire five-episode series beam down to a ground map with a bridge officer, and even that mission only required a single BOff as opposed to the entire four-person team.
This is a joke right...?
Because...THE most borken thing (this FE as a whole) in STO at the moment couldn't have gotten high praise...the poorly written story that broke off randomly like a child on a sugar rush, and all the bugs.....so many frakkin' bugs....the incomplete map on DS9...THE BUGS...
Oh...poor Al...surprised that people might have wanted some... MULTIPLAYER in an MMO....would have have thought???? And ...story...? Don't start with STORY in STO...seeing that there has been a lack there of, or at least a well put organized one. And yes, I acknowledge that I couldn't do better, but STO would be better off with someone new to write this game's stories form now on...
Al is full of it. I do have to thank Massively though for giving us more info on how much BS is in Crytpic now a days.

he's talking about the fact you dont beam down with your bridge officers all that much in this series and its much more about your character rather than your crew.
his comment has nothing to do with multiplayer at all.

Too bad boffs are just drones (ironically my android beamed down with my main ). Ad it's too bad everyone has the same "story." This FE was just the definition of mistake or disaster. Only good thing about this FE was the nw map for Bajor ground and the the second biggest plothole in this series, the prison facility.
It is good that there looking into other options and don't see why the Klingons cannot have a carrier but the federation are not a war like federation so maybe a ship that is more dedicated to exploration rather than war
"He said that the team is feeling the onus of putting out a great experience for the players along with ensuring that effort is well-balanced with the need to design systems that are monetized and still accessible."
This is the single most important part of the interview for me. They are and will be making sure EVERYTHING in the game is about money. Not Star Trek, not game play, or feel, or logic. MONEY.
I know they need to make money, its clear. CO was doing just fine without having everything based on money. The New owners care about one thing clearly. MONEY.
how about noooo for the fed carriers as it will be one less uniqueness for the klinks unless we feddies receive a nerf along with the carriers.
Considering the Akaira class was created as a carrier, it just never got screen time, I would say yes. The tech specs which are Canon, support a carrier. Also which Canon source supporst a Klingon carrier???
But lets not turn this into another fed carrier thread, there are enough of those out there.

I loved the new FE. Then again I'm a huge DS9 buff. I thought the Prison was a neat addition. Look at the prison facitilies in Enterprise, same flavor. Good job on this Cryptic!

fair enough. i loved the FE series. They need to rethink cutscenes and where and when they are used or at least make them skipable for replays but i enjoyed every single episode.
the prison ep, while awesome to see and play was somewhat silly but i can overlook that.

WRT the repro: Yes, I completed the entire 2800 chain originally when it was an FE.

It wasn't a Fed carrier. It would be a Caitian carrier, a member planet ship

I didn't know it had that many shuttlebays until I read on MA. But the Aeroshuttle is canon - we see schematics of it numerous times, and there's at least one pic on MA: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20070123185425/memoryalpha/en/images/6/69/Aeroshuttle-docked.jpg
Just acquired and replayed the mission successfully on my KDF toon. I'm surprised that didn't require a client patch, but thanks for the quick fix!
