for starters let me say I love that you guys are bringing in some new use for the EVA suit and that alone makes this mission great. hopefully it will see more uses like being used while fighting tholians since it can withstand extremely hot temperature conditions.
In comparison to DS9
well, their is no comparison, this is 10x more better than DS9 because of how freely you can move instead of being magnetically attached to the ship and just jumping around in general is fun to do in a space suit.
the mini-game
i thought it was really interesting to see a new minigame for star trek online. at first i was ecpecting it to be the same as finding a data sample but you guys went the extra mile and made it completely new and interesting which i have to give serious props to you guys about.
the EVA suit
only thing i find bad about this is its kind of a rip off that the pre-used suit which is identical to the one we get in the 2800 actually costs something as oppposed to being free. granted its not very much but it is still kind of a rip off.
the asteroid enviorment
the enviorment itself looks great and feels like an asteroid, would have liked a slightly more new asteroid texture but still it looked great. the best part about it was having the light from the ferengi cruiser go over the asteroid, and it looked great graphics wise as well.
in conclusion
all in all it was a great mission and defeniately something new to spice up the game with. only thing i would have added is a proper airlock you go into than out of to get onto the asteroid but hey its not that big of a deal. only question i have now is, whats the next use for the space suit?
The mission is fun for 4 minutes + 2 respaws while you choke your toon to death. It takes a long time to get the useless amount of dil the mission hands out.

This... Compared to the time you spend in this mission the rewards are not worth the efford.
Don't get me wrong, the idea is AWESOME, the implementation is neat, but it dosen't leave me with a feeling saying "Yea... that was worth it".
Yeah, ok, I can't even type that with a straight face.
It's a good thing you said that last part... I have... enough dilithium in my account to make what I... collected in this mission to be less than 1% of my total amount... and thats not counting Ore.
If you time it with the event you can get 500-700 dilithium, plus some particle traces and things. for 5 mins work its same as a daily misison in orelius or eta. its just meant to be a fun little thing other than shooting 5 ships
I think the mini game is enjoyable. I think it could be built on. perhaps several asteroids dotted around the galaxy. perhaps some give better rewards randomly, or having high science xp will allow you to scan the asteroids and determine which ones give the best rewards.

The mini-game was fun, but they really ought to adjust the rewards higher to compensate for the time it takes. I love the concept, and really hope they build on it a little.

In fact, I felt like... "wait... is this it?"
Even during the special mining event I only got 110-140 dilithium per node. I wonder how low the reward is if you do it any other time. I really tried to like the event but considering you get 1100 dilithium in 15-20 minutes from a single STF...
Was a fun distraction for a few minutes. I just don't see myself repeating this much. It's already a bit been there, done that.
But I would love to see the map utilized in the foundry.
jumping around on the surface is fun and there are many story possibilies for it.
A bit of a missed opportunity seems that you can't walk around the entire asteroid, but i guess that woudl require totally different gravity teckh
Not a fan of the dilithium mining mission.
It's just unneeded fluff.
i think it would of worked better as a free form dilithium mining mission. With re-spawning dilithium points.
Or a higher pay out.
I can net more dilithium then this mission with a daily run combined with PVE-STF missions while leaving out war zones.
In fact I did I got 18,000 ore in one day before my ore refinement cycled around in one day,
The only reason to keep this low pay out in dilithium is if cryptic is planning on upping our ore refinement limit to be higher then 8,000 other wise make it a free form dilithium mining mission.

It will not give me a 5th place to mine! (Klingon toon)
Right there with ya.
I'd like it better if my Klink toon could actually finish it. Which brings me to another point'; Why in the holy smegging blood hell would something be released when it was known it didn't "always" work properly for one faction? This bug was even mentioned on Tribble, yet here it comes bugs intact, sorry KDF, we'll get you fixed up sometime.
45 minutes running around looking for ore that wasnt mined out for 340 dill and then couldn't even complete the mission because it insisted I mined 4 times when I mined 5 times so it wouldn't let me mine any more. TRIBBLE, complete TRIBBLE.
Found that the rewards was not worth the time and effort for this mining minigame. If it was more like 3000 dilithium then it might make it well worth it but as it is i can not see me doing it very often.
Fun little diversion but the rewards just don't make it worth doing.
Every player should be able to walk away with no less then 480 Dilithium. There are faster quicker dalies in the game and you walk away with 480 Dilthium 100% of the time
At this rate of Dilithium , I think they are testing the backlash .
Also , the previous mini-game stops once you've calibrated the right wave length . It would be nice if this game did the same .
Does not make Star Trek sense for Klingon Generals and Starfleet Admirals to be 'miners'.
Final thoughts:
It's a fun map and it's nice to have something new to do, especially using EVA suits. But the dilithium rewards are so small that it's not worth my time doing this event. I probably won't be doing this on a regular basis or at all since there's more effective ways to obtain DL.

Agreed...
I just get the phaser-drill lined up and it moves...
I'm old...,
...stop teasing me with things I no longer have the mental dexterity and hand-eye coordination to accomplish....
I actually got the hang of it fairly quickly...
...but it does seem to move around way to much, just as ya get it lined up.
Not very logical, once ya get the thing aimed, it should stay put, till that particular vein is tapped out for you.
The minigame actually IS kinda fun. Moving around in space in an ev suit IS kinda fun. Doing all that for mere pebbles is NOT fun. The rewards need a SERIOUS boost, but they worn't get one. We have entered the "milk 'em for all they're worth" phase of the game. The lower the trade value between rD and CP, the more Cryptic makes when people get discouraged grinding dilithium and start buying it.
Chance boxes, lock box loot drops, multiple versions of the same ship, these are the priorities now. That's why these things can make it in game on time or ahead of schedule, and yet veteran rewards are 100 days overdue with no release date in sight.

Not to nitpick, but there is a color difference between the "2800" suit (grey) and the "pre-used" (silver). I only noticed it because I took my 2800 suit with me on the mining mission not knowing what would be needed.
I didn't actually try to run the mining mission with the 2800 suit (I see in the notes that you can't do the 2800 EVA mission with the mining suit, but it doesn't mention the reverse)
If I'm going to fly my ship to East Butt****, don an environmental suit, and do manual labor in a zero-gravity environment, I expect to be rewarded. As-is, there's no justification for it being a daily mission. If the yields were higher, maybe, but right now? No, it needs to be repeatable, or the rewards need a substantial increase.
Once I played this I immediately knew I had to login to the forums just to say how bad it was, infact in the 1+ year I've played this game I don't think I've ever posted on the forums, although I could be wrong, (I don't know how to check and see if I've made a post earlier if that gives you any idea of my lack of usage).
Anyway that's how bad this minigame was. It made me finally compelled to post on the forums even though I've had ideas for improvement for a long time sitting around I haven't posted. Enough rambling though, let me tell you what makes this unsatisfactory:
1. Pitiful reward. "Come strike it rich!" the Ferengi says....I maxed out at 60 Dili per rock after I got the hang of it. Now I know I'm not the best gamer, but from what I hear the best of the best can hit about 900 points which gives you 120 dili I believe, and a couple of particle traces. Really not worth the effort you spend for that.
2. Difficulty. I walked out onto the asteroid with no clue what the heck I was doing. I finally figured it out but the triangle still moved pretty fast, although I got the hang of it and I bet next time around I'll break 500 on the score, and from what I can tell you need about 600-700 to even get 100 dili.
3. Insane store. So you're telling me for 350 Thousand dilithium I can buy a EVA suit that does nothing my two free ones can't and only has a different color to the same design? To put this in perspective I don't really grind the max amount of dilithium you can a day, but if I did and refined 8,000 per day it would take me almost 44 days to get that much. Even if the cap was raised to 9,000 and this Doff dili refining mission that's been mentioned refines another 1,000 (We're at 10k now if you couldn't figure it out ) it would still take over a month to get that much dilithium refined for a useless piece of fluff that you probably will only show off in one or two locations. Now I have been told that some players have giant piles of dili sitting around and might be willing to actually buy these things o.O but think of things this way:
Currently dilithium is averaging around 250 per cryptic point, that's 2,800 cryptic points for 2 useless suits! (3,120 for those who don't get the Orange suit this weekend). Might as well save a little more and get a Flagship pack most people are throwing fits over.
I personally had no problems with dilithium respawns even mined some dili right after or at the same time as other players. So here are my possible solutions to this issue:
1. What everyone else is saying...increase the rewards! You're standing there looking at actual giant dilithium crystals and you're having to go to a lot of effort to get them. I would generously suggest quintupling the rewards since this is after all mining, and hard work. Also there's only so much dilithium we can refine a day and most players have a big stockpile that sits there constantly unrefined, giving us a whole lot more reasonable (or even unreasonable if it's in a good way) Won't hurt anything or crash the C-point market. Multiplying the reward by 5 and you're looking at a minimum of 200 per rock and a max of around 600, making the end reward about 1000-3,000 Dilithium, (Have the ferengi take 10-15% out of this if you want, it would still make the player base so very happy!) Alternatively if you don't want to give that much dilithium to newer players, make the rewards scale to level. Add in a VA mining area. Something, ANYTHING to make this possibly great mission worthwhile!
2. The difficulty, although hard at times to even get the triangle aligned before it moves to the next one, would be just fine as long as you increased the rewards.
3. After increasing the rewards, all that's left to do is lower the prices on those darn fluffly suits. Try halving them all, bringing them down to a much more reasonable, (if still slightly crazy) average of 700 C-points per the two expensive ones and 160 for the currently free orange one.
Hopefully some of my ideas, and everyone else's will be implemented to improve the mission and make everyone happy. And I also hope that my next post will be the pleasure of congratulating the devs for another job well done (As they've done for the most part this year), Or to discuss a possible game improvement.
I tried this with an open mind and am sorry to say it was a waste of time.
I think that if they do this they should remove the daily and make it more like the red alerts so that it will pop up in sectors at certain times.
The amount I mined was pretty pitiful to be honest and can't see what you gain from spending an insane amount of dilithium on a coloured space suit just to mine very little in return.
I do agree with those that say having a captain or admiral/general go out mining on a remote asteroid is a bit daft to say the least.

Uummm...
...Not so much...
120 Dilithium Ore for 25 minutes of PITA work...
Thanks, but I'll pass..., had more fun just bouncing around.
Oh..., and Thank You for the free suit anyway.
Also... 20 hours to do this again??
yeah... again... Not so much.

But yeh, the rewards need to be a little more generous.
