Character rank titles and Vice Admirals

Hello ladies and gentlemen and transgender species...

I have a question regarding character title and player level.
My character is Vice Admiral, but I wish to play as "captain". Are there any way to force the game to recognize my character as "captain" rather than "vice admiral" - especially during PvE missions?
I hate when NPCs call me "Vice Admiral" rather than "Captain".

In case it is not possible to do so, do Vice Admirals fly / command ships? I know you can be of lower class (such as Lieutenant) and be called "captain" of the ship. But do VAs fly ships?
When watching shows, VAs are always doing desk work. Were there any episodes where VA commanded a ship?

Short answer for the first question.
    No.

Slightly longer answer for the second question.
It's a game and people want some kind of level progression?
Additionally this game does not have to follow every single piece of canon there is.

I don't think I asked "why" its VA? I just wanted to know if it is cannonly possible for VAs to command ships.
I know it doesnt have to follow every canon... I'm just bugged by it thats all.

    Sorry if I offended you

In truth, there is nothing that really prevents a Vice Admiral from commanding a ship, as long as he keeps up with his other duties.

We also know that Starfleet could give operational command to admirals (We saw this in that in TNG - 1x16 - Too Short a Season), where even admirals could take part in operations of awayteam size.

Yes it is possible. anazonda gave an example.
While a VA would mainly command fleets and I suppose that's the conflict? We can't actually command fleets.

I accept your apology even if I was not offended. :)

Admiralty is a "flag" rank and usually those of flag rank do not command ships in any navy, at least IRL.

That said, considering your captain is one of hundreds of captains being rapid-promoted from ensign in a time of dire desperation, there's no telling what precisely they'll let you get away with. It's quite probable a lot of them would refuse to accept a promotion to Admiral - a hot-shot twenty-something battling Klingons and Borg and saving lives is not going to be eager to instead be battling budget reports and internal politics, and saving their posterior from being a scapegoat in the latest TRIBBLE-up. In fact, I daresay that many would resign rather than be booted from the captain's chair to the admiralty.

So far as I know the closest most Admirals get to ship command is command of a fleet. In those cases they typically do NOT have the direct command of their flag ship, but rather order the captain who executes the orders, while the Admiral even has his own war room separate from the bridge of the ship. I could easily be wrong, though, and the really huge ships (e.g. Nimitz-class aircraft carriers) could be exceptions.

As a suggestion, you could change your character's title to Captain and make sure their outfit has only Captain pips on. It's not much, but it's a slight improvement.

You must be the, what, 100 000th player with that wish. :)

IRL if a four star general or admiral wants it, it happens.

VA Nador walking along space dock decides....wow, that is a cool escort...I'd like to visit.

Anyone here really thinks that the Captain is going to say NO???

Still lets get back to the actual series.

IF Starfleet only had to fight the Klingons, Romulans, Breen, Cardassians, or any one of the many "meanies" like in TOS, TNG, or DS9 than no VAs would be doing desk work and there wouldn't be that many VAs to begin with.

NOW though Starfleet has to deal with BORG, UNDINE, Dominion, Breen, Romulans, Klingons, and the True Way. After the last Dominion war and the great shortage of experienced officers; only the oldest (most senior) VAs would stay put and everyone else get your pa tooties out on a ship... VAs I don't care where you go, just beat up one of those meanies out there.
