Yes, the end of an era.

No more "nuke-lear wessel" named Enterprise. Perhaps the next generation of carrier will have a ship to
bear such a proud name.
For Petty Officer 1st Class Brian Dennis, there's also pride in his ship having the same name as the ship featured in the "Star Trek" series.
"I always wanted to be a part of history, so being on this last deployment it'll be something I can definitely tell my children and grandchildren," he said.

Here is hoping they name a next Generation ship after her.
All hands! *salute*
This is saddening..but she's been serving a long time...
Bless her and the crews that have served on her. It's sad that this'll be the last Enterprise until the NX-01
Here is to the Enterprise and all her crew, past and present. Cheers
Hear, hear.
Let's hope that Congress sees fit to name one of the new Ford-class carriers to carry on the tradition of the name Enterprise. And I say that as an American and as an Army veteran, and not as an unreconstructed Star Trek nerd.
As an unreconstructed Star Trek nerd, I'd simply quote Captain Picard: "Let's make sure that history never forgets the name... Enterprise."
And with an luck, the last CO of this Enterprise won't steal her for a rescue mission of a dead man.

Currently CVN-78 will be The USS Gerald Ford, and CVN-79 will be the John F Kennedy. I would imagine it's acouple of years before they name CVN-80, and by then hopefully with Enterprise having been just deommed at that point, the Admirals and Politicians will be nice to us, and name her Enterprise
Let this current generation stick with Presidential names. First of the next generation should be Enterprise. Just don't paint CV-65-A on her conn tower... :P
Being a sailor myself, I can see a crew of a future Enterprise doing just that, but as a temporary thing, I would imagine the Admiralty wouldn't like the crew of a new ship defacing it for shouts and giggles
She's well past her prime. She was originally scheduled for decomm in 1979, but was refeuled and sent back out into the world. I hope they'll make her into a floating museum someplace, but they're going to have to figure out how to make her structurally sound after they gut the Reactor spaces.
I think they said that it would cost too much to put back together for a museum and that most of the scrap would go into future ships. That stinks too. Hmm, I wonder if I could by a small piece of the bulkhead if they're turning it into scrap?
Awesome series to watch about her predecessor, USS Enterprise CV-6
According to the Navy's info site, that one ended up getting named the John F Kennedy. There is an order for something like seven more of the class, but only two have started construction and both have names already.
