Yeah, it's definitely odd how the new "camera" options affect different ships.

It's not just the zoom, but it's also the relocation bump...meh.

Interesting as it seems it can only go as close as the collision box, that means some ships have collision boxes smaller that the actual ship model as other ships have boxes that are much bigger that the actual ship.

Count me in as another player who would like--VERY MUCH--to have the zoom restored. Frankly, I'd even like to be able to zoom in closer on my ground characters once in a while, and to have a free floating camera option for screenshots someday. This game's got great graphics...why not give players more options to enjoy it! As for those who didn't like the zoom...perhaps the ability to set your maximum zoom level in graphics options could give them the ability to customize things to their liking. :)

Please put the zoom back in the game, I liked checking out my ship close up!!!

This to me is really the only downside. I liked taking close up pics of my ship. It's also a shame that the detail that was put into these ships can't be fully appreciated now.

On the plus side, a "fix" is in the works so we'll see what happens then.

Yeah, this sucks. People who don't want it so close could simply zoom out. So, what's the problem?

Now I'm watching on my little big Venture ant. Really annoying.

    Wrong movie.
Pitch Black is the one where they always come at night. Always.

And It's only an OK movie. There are some cool bits, but there's plot holes and poorly designed things throughout.

Are you quooting Pitch Black or STO? I could make a convincing argument for both.

So don't zoom in so far.

    =edit=

Though in my MVAM, when I zoom in all the way, I don't clip through the ship but the ship turns translucent.

    Not cool at all.

    =edit=

Just checked my toon with the Star Cruiser and it appears that the zoom wasn't fixed, or wasn't fixed very well with the patch. I'm still backed off pretty far from my ship.

Looks like the change is being reversed ...
We will be bringing the Tribble server down for maintenance to apply a new update.
    ST.17.20120312a.0

    General:
    • Can now zoom into larger ships as closely as previously able.

    http://forums.startrekonline.com/showthread.php?t=260510

After playing with it for a few day, it really did not bother me though.

If that is the best that can be done...it looks okay. Please check for ambient sound test *like hearing the humming of the Ship's engines when that close.*

Yeah, it's better than the recent change, but still not as good as it was. But, hey, least you can't clip the ship anymore! I wish they would just give us a toggle if they are so set on this. This is something that's been a certain way for a looooong time. It's like suddenly changing how fast you turn your character. It's kinda a fundamental thing. Especially for those that like to look at their ship real close.

I'm in favor of options, not the removal of stuff.

But the folks at Cryptic are like resentful little children, who, when they're caught in the wrong, will only do half of what they're asked out of an apparent need to assert their dominion over the playerbase. This is their typical reaction.

However, I'm completely content with not buying any more large craft from the C-Store. What's the worth in buying something if you can't enjoy it, right?

You will give me back the ability to zoom in as close as i want (rollback, fix, or toggle) or i will unsuscribe from gold status and discontinue playing STO completely. You have the remaining time of my previous billing period to comply (19 days).

Veiled name calling directed toward the devs is not helpful, and reveals more about the poster than his intended target.

That said, I would like to emphasize my preference for a complete rollback to the previous zoom, not whatever appears to be on Tribble (as seen via another poster's screenshot comparisons). Occasional clipping seems to be an acceptable price to pay.

Needs to be put back to how it was.

Telling people they have done this, when clearly they haven't just isn't acceptable.

Thank you, Starfish, for being the voice of sanity in this thread.

Cryptic, take note: Releasing patch notes claiming that the zoom is being put back to where it used to be, while offering up a Tribble build that tells quite a different story, is NOT the way to make friends and influence people.

so they say they reverted it, but the game shows the only tweaked it some. Um, yeah about that
better screen shot the patch notes, they've edited them to make things better before.

See the console debacle and them being removed when they said they wouldn't be.

yes they changed those patch notes.

Unless this is returned to how it was, I won't be buying any of the upcoming flagship variants. Not a single one. Whereas before, I would have paid money for all of them the second they are available.
As things stand, I open the launcher out of habit, then remember that my Odyessy is tiny and promptly close it and go and play Skyrim instead.

It's your own pocket you're hurting here.

The should change this back! It sucks. I had a perfect view of my ships external features and now I can't zoom in to see the detail...

Developers - Don't change a succes formula!
Cryptic - If it ain't broke don't fix it :(

Noticed as well that although better than what they put on holodeck, it is not as good as it was before.

I started playing EVE last night. It's pretty cool. And zoom isn't broken.

Please change the camera distance to what it was EXACTLY before you changed it recently. There was no problem with the original, and if the slight clipping was an issue, then tell people to not zoom in that much.

"Doctor, it hurts when I move my arm like this..."
"Then don't move your arm like that..."

"Cryptic, my ship clips when I zoom in all the way.."
"Then don't zoom in all the way please..."
