Ah the Galaxy X Dreadnaught the so called combat engineers T5 ship of choice. combining the raw power of a fleet escort with the durability of a cruiser and with a cannon that melts faces.
So why when this is clearly established as one of the games heavy hitters (at least in the right hands) am i looking "back" at it?
well its this simple, with the addition of one little console this ship is going from lumbering gunship to what will most probably be one of the most desirable fleet escort / combat tanks / Raw DPS available on the c-store.
Thats not to say the dreddy does not have its significant flaws oh no far from it, for example:
- It turns like a bus
- the front firing arc is limited due to the turning rate
- you are limited to phasers if you want to truly buff your weapons systems
- T4 level Boff slots
But even with these limitations the ship is still desirable and can dominate as a "park and shoot" gunboat especially in STF's and with a reasonably skilled engineer in the captains chair she can tank very as effectively as any star cruiser.
But despite the cannons and the spinal phaser she is no fleet escort and can quite easily be swamped by smaller faster more heavily gunned ships that can stay out of here effective combat arc.
But here's a question, how the heck is the I.S.S. Stadi so darn powerful? and how can we match that raw power?
well the simple answer is this:

Hakishins Dreadnaught wont be to everyone's taste but think for a moment what this sort of build could do on a faster turning ship with effectively a MVA like the Prometheus and a shotgun (wide spread) version of the spinal Phaser covering your aft.
Does this ship still need another (or a higher level) tactical slot? yes

Will we be seeing much more of this ship as soon as it can separate? ooooh heck yes!

Will it be nerfed into the ground as soon as Engineers and Tactical officers learn to use the MVA mode?
yep....probably
so at the (relatively) low price of 2000 c-points who will be picking up the Dreadnought for future use despite the fact they will need to buy the separation console as well?
Comments
I am hoping and praying that an upgrade to the Tactical Stations of some sort will happen... Maybe this Separating Galaxy Dread could be the very thing..
It's Wishful thinking.. But I seriously hope that it happens
I have been in constant study of the Stadi.. And I have been trying to build one myself.. Only very little success..
Stadi an observation...
Weapons:
Phaser Beams- All Array's as far as I can tell
Tropedo's - Quantum
Boff Abilities..
Tac - Fire At Will III, Torpedo Spread III, Torpedo High Yield III
Engineering - Emergency Power To Shields III, Direct Energy Modulation II or III
Sci - Tractor Beam I, Tacyon's Rift II
Note: (Corrections may be needed)..
The only way to match these abilities is Super Rare Tact Boff's with the III's across the board.. Otherwise we only come close with the Engineering Stations...
I'm of two minds to this.
I'd prefer an upgrade to the existing ship rather than an entirely new ship by making the separation console from the Galaxy-R work on the X. It would be a show of good will to past buyers, entice new buyers, and also breathe some life (or rather, sales - same thing from where Cryptic's sitting) into the Galaxy-R that's been really left behind by the Odyssey... and then there's the recent buyers (like the OP by the sounds of it) who saw the separation images and bought the Galaxy-X for future use before waiting to find out if this is the same ship or a new upgrade.
On the other hand, it probably wouldn't get my money. Now, if a saucer separation cruiser with the Excelsior's bridge stations (or better yet, the Excelsior's with a universal ensign) hit the C-store, I would buy it and probably be impatient enough to fly it to drop another thousand points on dilithium to kit it out.
I would definitely go for a Tactical Variant if that is the Case..
