We can't put Vic in any more than we can put in Picard or Kirk. There are likeness rights that we would have to buy, and I'd guess they aren't cheap.

Just out of curiosity, you did buy the likeness right for Chase Masterson. yes ?

I´m not sure how much the Dabo hologram actually resembles her.... but that could be to circumvent the likeness issue or due to limitation on how accurate the graphic engine can be.

    Ha! yes good point.

I doubt the character modelling could even resemble an actor even if we wanted it to :D

Definitely not curvy enough :p (move slider to far right ->)

Hm, I don´t know. I´m no fan of cleavage that generates it´s own gravity field... but hey, whatever powers your warp drive. :p

But we can have Worf, Leeta, Female Shapeshifter, Naomi Wildman, Icheb, the voice of both spocks, etc?

    Whats the difference?

Yes, presumably we got rights to Chase, but that's all legal questions I'm not really qualified to answer.

I know that likeness rights are necessary.

I know that they are not trivial to get.

I know that it is not likely (but not impossible) that more will be acquired in the future.

Worf doesn´t look like the Worf from the shows or the movies a.k.a. Michael Dorn. I´m not sure about Leeta, but she doesn´t scream Chase Masterson to me either. Shapeshifters all look alike anyway.

Voices are not likenesses (?!) and they paid them well I would guess.

Naomi Wildman and Icheb don´t look much like their older selfs from tht one episode where Janeway traveled through time.

Though it makes one wonder at what point there had to be likeness rights granted....

Who would you like to have in the game if you could pick any Star Trek actor ? :)

According to the devs, they do have permission to make him look like he did in the finale of TNG and the version in-game was their best effort at that. Any lack of resemblance is accidental.

If I had to be serious I'd have to say Brent Spinner as Data

.... or any of the Ferrengi - we need more Ferrengi in STO :D

    Good choice.

Personally I would like James Stewart as Picard. I never get tired of hearing him speak and I think he represented the noble ideals of the Federation best. :)

I always loved Barclay episodes. I appreciated how he didn't fit into the perfect Star Trek world and was a little bit broken.
I really enjoyed the Voyager episodes when they bought him back :)

    I'd like Barclay.

    A: I think he's realistically attainable
B: He's a great character when he was used and typically well liked

Just on a side note, STO obtained Chase Masterson's likeness rights after a bunch of fans got together and asked her if she would be willing to appear in the game. You can read the blurb here:

And sadly, after all of that, her voice is no longer in the game. :(

And I thanked God for an entire day. I avoided DS9 because of her voice and no one liked her spam.

    I'm glad you're happy.

I, and others, would have preferred the bug be fixed, and she only be audible while playing Dabo (or at least a short distance away).

But go ahead. Rejoice in others' losses.

I would've loved to see Sisko return in the current FE and kick the Dominions *** in the Defiant all over again. It would've been incredible to get Avery Brookes' voice and likeness in the game because lets face it. Kurland is barely a shadow of Sisko's greatness and sounds like his balls haven't dropped.

    *gasp*

i don't know why, but i HATED Vic in DS9
i did not like the music, sorry Heavy Metal over here, this slow emotional stuff hurts my brain.
    but thats not it...
i wanted more screentime for the Dominion War, and this guy ended up getting sooooo much screentime... over sooo many episodes ... most annoying hologram EVER.
And the worst is he made everyone of the characters SING.... ugh i hate it when that happens!
This ain't a Disney movie, stop singing! GRAAAH.

the most hated character list of mine:

    Vic Fontaine
    Naomi Wildman
    Neelix
    Wesley Crusher
    Jar Jar Binks

you can shuffle those 5 however you want, my life would have been better without them!
Will Wheaton is epic though, and Neelix wasn't all bad, but the writers overdid it with his annoyance factor, enough to overshadow any good stuff he ever provided to the show.

:o Neelix and Wesley where two of my favorite characters haha! Wesley was brilliant for me, felt like i could almost identify with him... not sure how... i aint now genius :s liked him alot though. I do agree with the Vic Fontaine point though, most pointless character in a trek series ever to me

Vic wasn't pointless, he was the guy the crew went to when they needed someone to talk to, they all confided in him at one point or another. He became part of the family.

Oh and I'd rather Vic over Ezri any day of the week. She's among one of my most hated characters, right down there with Jar Jar Wesley and Neelix.
